Hi! + Brooks Running Giveaway!

Hi! I’m alive!

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks around here. Work has really been picking up at the office, my sister and her family were in town last weekend, and I simply don’t open my laptop up as much as I used to when I’m at home. Honestly, the days and weeks seem to fly by way too quickly – I honestly can’t believe we’re halfway through June!

Let’s play a little catch-up.

What I’m Watching: The Handmaid’s Tale

Dang, this show is good! The cinematography, the storyline, the characters – everything immediately pulls you in and it’s hard to look away. The modern dystopia depicted in the show is so relevant in the current political climate and definitely makes you think. The storyline was so enticing, that I downloaded the original book and have been listening to it on my daily commute, as well as my morning runs and evening walks with Maddie. Despite originally being written in the 1980s, the book still feels very fresh and not dated at all. If you’re a fan of the show – I highly recommend the book for a deeper dive into Offred’s head and thoughts.

What I’m Wearing: Le Tote

I signed up  for Le Tote last month and have really been enjoying it thus far. I head of a while ago Le Tote (thank you Facebook ads), but it wasn’t until I complimented someone’s shirt at bar class, that I actually became curious about it. She told me her shirt was from Le Tote and continued to gush over the clothing rental subscription service. Basically you pay a monthly fee that grants you access to an online closet you rent from. You select your pieces, wear them, return them, and they immediately send back another box of clothes. For someone who loves to wear new clothes, doesn’t have time to shop,  and likes to change it up – this sounded great. I did a test box and just kept it going from there.

What I’m Doing: Glazer Children’s Museum  

Derek and I recently purchased an annual membership at our local children’s museum and love it. It’s a great way to wear out an energetic toddler and it’s a great escape from the summer heat. It gets serious bonus points for being INSIDE, which is really key for Florida summers. We had a zoo membership last summer, but the heat and humidity were brutal. Plus, it’s nice to change up our memberships every year. Next year we might be touting our new Aquarium membership.

What I’m Excited About: Brooks Endorsed Athlete

I’m about a week behind, but in case you missed it, Brooks made a really cool announcement on National Running Day.


According to the fifth annual Brooks Global Run Happy Report, the majority of runners across the globe (62%) dreamt of becoming a professional athlete as a kid; however, big-time endorsement deals in running are generally reserved for only the fastest in the world. Brooks is mixing things up because the company believes all who run—fast or slow; chasing a personal record or feeding the soul—deserve support in their running pursuits. So in celebration of all runners everywhere, they want to help make those childhood dreams come true by inviting all runners to become a Brooks endorsed athlete with the Brooks Big Endorsement.

All runners can head to now to sign their endorsement deal with Brooks. All endorsed athletes will receive a $1 check, as well as bragging rights and access to a community of fellow endorsed athletes. It’s really just a fun celebration of runners everywhere and a big reminder of why I love Brooks so much – they really do believe in all things Run Happy!

Speaking of Brooks, they also just released the new Glycerin 15s.

The Glycerin shoes were my initial introduction to Brooks way back in 2009. I like to refer to them as Brooks’ luxury shoe since everything about the Glycerin is luxurious. They’re maxed out with cushion, keep my feet feeling strong, and are my absolute favorite shoe for casual long runs. I’ve pretty much run in every release since then and the 15s 100% live up to everything I love about the Glycerins.

I particularly enjoy the extra-cushioned wrap around for my heel. It’s so soft and doesn’t dig in at all, I almost feel like I could run sans-socks and not have to worry about any blisters in that area. I feel like my foot is wrapped in a big pillow.

Granted, I wouldn’t call these a flat and fast shoe for hard-core speed training days. But for the days you just want to run on cruise control – they’re perfect.

I’m getting back into training for a half marathon I have penciled in that is in October. It’ll be my third half and I’m really hoping to break two hours this year! The only bad thing about a fall race is my training is happening during the heat of the summer! Yay for treadmills and early training runs.

I ran a half marathon two weeks ago but I’m 23 weeks pregnant so not sure I’ll do anymore official runs this summer but I plan to keep running as far into my pregnancy as I can! Doing 10 tomorrow.

We are working back into it at our house…slowly but surely. Doing exercise videos on fitness blender, taking the dogs on walks and bike rides. Planning some fun hikes as a family in Moab and Breckenridge later this summer/early fall.

How fun about the children’s museum- we love ours here in Austin too, especially to beat the heat. Speaking of heat, my summer running plans involve lots of super early morning runs because it’s about the only time that is bearable. Come July, I’m not even sure that will be the case because its even hot and sticky in the morning- I know you can relate. Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

Totally agree re The Handmaid’s Tale! I read the book many years ago and then listened the audiobook before starting the show – all so good and so timely!

I’m doing a lot of cross training this summer – spinning, Pilates, HIIT and just running once a week.

I’m a pretty amateur runner and I haven’t been strategic in the past about different types of runs (long runs, speed workouts, etc)—I just set a mile goal and run until I finish. I’d like to level up my runs and start making some goals to push myself farther!

I’m pregnant so my running is slower and shorter than it used to be (and summer feels even hotter this year somehow…), but these shoes sound like they might be just perfect for my current running style. There are lots of summer 5ks here even though it’s over 100 degrees most days, but I will be skipping them this year and just doing my own thing.

I am recovering from back surgery (lumbar fusion) and expect to get cleared to begin running again at the end of this month! Glycerins have been my go to shoe since I first started running in 2010 as part of a New Years resolution, they are the best!!

I am running a half marathon in August and then training for the Dallas Marathon in December. I’m super excited as it will be my first whole marathon. I signed up for my first whole marathon in April but it got rained out, how disappointing it was for me. I trained for months and months and got up to 20 miles in a little over 3 hours. I was so ready to conquer it and now it’ll have to wait til December but the training will be lots of fun.

I finally just got cleared to go back to working out and running after having a baby, I’m sure my runs will be short and I’ll struggle at first again but I’ll push through it!

Hey Meghan! I’ve been following your blog for years now! I just started my own weight loss journey and have 85 lbs to lose! Running is one of my main forms of cardio. I’ve always wanted a pair of brooks running shoes, and specifically the glycerins. I think that being heavier, the extra cushion would help the joints in my knees and hips. That’s my goal this summer is to taper down on my outdoor runs. It’s getting humid, and hot, and I’m trying to move my workouts indoors so I can still stay active. Perhaps in the fall I’ll be running a lot more!

I almost exclusively hit the trails in the summer because I exercise with my dog and don’t like her feet on hot pavement! Hoping to do a 5k in the fall though. (PS, I love Handmaid’s Tale too!!)

Well, after taking a huge break from all things exercise (haven’t done much since Thanksgiving 2016 due to a bought of depression) I am FiNaLLy getting back to moving.

I say “Moving” because any moving is better than sitting or sleeping….its slow but its happening…and summer helps a lot!!!

I was in a serious car wreck last August that shattered my ankle. It’s been a loooong rehab, but I am finally cleared to run a bit. My summer will be spent getting my feet moving again! I’ll never again complain about running or take it for granted!
