A Fresh Kitchen

by Meghann on December 21, 2014

A new quick-service restaurant in South Tampa has recently been blowing up my Instagram feed. It feels like just about every one of my local friends have tried it and every single one of them have nothing but rave reviews about it. Call it the power of social media, but after seeing delicious photo after photo, I knew I had to try this place for myself!

Fresh Kitchen is located in the Hyde Park area of South Tampa in a cozy hard-to-find-parking-for spot right off of Howard. Its owned by the same folks who basically own every restaurant in the surrounding area ( Ciccio Restaurant Group) and its charm is apparent as soon as you pull up.

Fresh Kitchen prides itself on using fresh healthy ingredients. Everything is made in house, including the cold pressed juices.

I hopped right in line and started reviewing the menu. It’s a you-pick type of place and you have the option of creating a bowl by selecting two bases, two proteins, two veggies, and a dressing. It’s a similar set-up as a Chipotle, where your bowl moves from person-to-person as you select each item.

Everything looked fabulous. I was happy to see a variety of options in the “base” category, especially all the green. I’m over mixed greens and plain grains, so it was fun to have the option of “kale slaw” and “sweet potato noodles.” The proteins all looked fresh, as did the veggies. They had brussels sprouts – my absolute favorite vegetable of all time! The sauces were also fun. All sauces are cold-pressed and a step outside your traditional balsamic and ranch options.

My bowl consisted of two servings of the kale slaw, barbecue chicken, oven baked chicken tenders, roasted brussels sprouts, coconut cauliflower, and the avocado greens ceasar dressing.

The bowl was fabulous! So full of flavor. It was also a great light meal that left you feeling satisfied and refreshed. I gave it two thumbs up!

I also had a small dairy-free egg nog with my bowl.

Loved this! The flavor was rich, but not heavy and had a great level of creamy spiciness to it. It’s a great alternative to traditional egg nog – I wish I’d bought a bigger thing to take home.

So now I see what all the fuss is about – Fresh Kitchen is great. I just wished I lived or worked a little closer to it!

What’s the last new restaurant you tried?
