I went for a run this morning.

A short run (only two miles) and a slow run (Maddie and I averaged a whopping 12 min/mile thanks to our run/stop and sniff method), but it was a good run. The last time I ran was the morning of my final ultrasound, so there was a lot of pent up emotion. I needed this run to help with part of my healing process. I’m not looking to train for something big or quickly build up any speed or endurance, I just need to get out there to reestablish some sort of normalcy. Running is part of who I am and if you take that away from me, I’m lost.

It was also my first run in my new neighborhood. While I was up in New Jersey this weekend for work, Derek moved our entire lives with the help of some friends and family (thanks, Mom and Dad!).

Let me tell you, I hated not being there, but it was the only weekend that worked for the move. My mom sent regular updates via texts and phone calls so I could be kept up to date. I couldn’t wait to head home to my new home and start settling in.

Of course, I currently have no idea where anything is.

Boxes. Everywhere. And we didn’t think to label any of them. I spent 15 minutes this morning looking for a bottle of lotion before giving up. I also couldn’t find the strapless bra I wanted to wear. Where the heck did it go? My clothes are strewn everywhere, bathroom stuff is in 5 different boxes, and our kitchen has no food, but I love it. I love our new home.

My mom put a lot of our kitchen stuff away Saturday night. We were bursting at the seams in our last kitchen – the cabinets were overflowing and I kept a lot of stuff in the garage to save space. When I checked the cabinets last night at our new place – half of them were still empty! The amount of cabinet space is crazy. I’m already in heaven.

We also have carpet in our bedroom! I HATED the tile in our last place. HATED, HATED, HATED IT. I think tiling the whole house in a Florida thing – and many apologies in advance to anyone who loves tile throughout the house – but I’m just not a fan. Granted we still have tile in the living room (a project we’re saving for a later date), but I’m thankful we have carpet in the bedroom now. It was almost luxurious to get out of bed last night and step on carpet. My footsies appreciated it so much, I wanted to drop to the floor and give the carpet a big ole hug.

I’m also loving having windows for the first time (our old place only had one tiny window in the kitchen and a sliding glass door), a large garage, and all the extra bedrooms. I finally feel like there’s space to spread out. The house was worth the wait.

We have family in town this weekend and then I work next weekend, so we’re hoping to finally start to piece the new house together in October. Did we pick a busy time to move or what? Sigh. Still worth it. I can live with all the boxes, as long as I get my carpet in the bedroom. 😉

How long after you moved did you have everything unpacked? A week? A month? A year?
