Six Months a Newlywed

by Meghann on July 5, 2013

Today Derek and I are celebrating our six month anniversary as husband and wife.

On one hand I feel like the six months flew by in the blink of an eye; on the other hand I feel like I’ve been Mrs. Anderson-Russell for a lifetime now. Being husband and wife feels like such a natural fit, that I forget what it was like before having those titles.

So much of both of our lives have changed in the last six months. After saying “I do” in January, we officially joined bank accounts (this was – and remains – a biggie as we both navigate large purchases with a joint account), I started a new job, we bought our first SUV together, I’ve started Ironman training, Derek began the process of redoing our backyard (new fence, new deck, new landscaping, etc.), and life just got busy. But, no matter what, we try to make our marriage (and each other) our main priorities. Whenever life gets too crazy, we take a day (or two) that’s just for us and spend the whole day together doing nothing. Those are my favorite days.

I’m still getting used to being Meghann Anderson-Russell. It’s easier when I have a phone conversation that I just say “Meghann Anderson” and drop the Russell, but I’m getting better at using my full name with work-related things or fill-in-the-blank forms. I was going through airport security last month when the security guy complimented me on my last name. I thought that was random, but it still made me smile. I’m happy I went the hyphenated route. No regrets there.

I miss wedding planning. I miss blogging about wedding planning. My co-worker is getting married in October and I love discussing all of the planning details with her. Yes, wedding planning is super stressful and a ton of work, but I had so much fun doing it. Derek and I both had so much fun on our wedding day. I would love to just relive that day over and over again if possible.

Other than that life is pretty much the same as it was before. We have our same routines, our same dreams and our same goals, but now we just both have rings on our left fingers. We’re stuck with each other… in the best way possible. πŸ™‚

Oh, and we’re already researching our first anniversary trip. It’s never too early to start planning an epic vacation, right?

Love you, babe! Happy 6-month Anniversary to the love of my life!

p.s. Can you believe we still haven’t printed one wedding photo?! We need to get on that!

Sadly it has been six years and I haven’t printed any wedding pictures. I wasn’t really happy with them, so I’m sure that doesn’t help.

Happy six months as a Mrs!!!
I’m going through the planning process now too. Planning is stressful, but super fun and I’m getting the chance to use my creative side a little! πŸ™‚ Have been through your wedding posts (along with so many others!) and grabbed some for my Pinterest board.
I think it’s really important to take a day off from crazy lives every so often and just spend time with each other. We always try to fit in one ‘date night’ each week where there are no laptops/phones/etc and we do something together, even if it only ends up being heading out for a walk.

Never too soon to plan a vacation! :0) Happy 6 months! Love your wedding photos and I’m with you – wedding planning was my favorite…was bittersweet to see it come to an end! I missed the planning but was happy to be married to my best friend.

YAY for 6 months!! We got married 2 months ago yesterday and unlike you, I don’t want to hear/see anything wedding related- so over all of that!! We were engaged for 17 months and near the end I was SO done!!

Happy 6-months! I just celebrated my 1-month and I can’t believe how fast that month went! I also miss my wedding planning…I’m in one of my best friend’s weddings next year and she has no desire to start planning but I told her that I’m all over it!

Please don’t interpret this as being judgey, because I’m not (trying to be), but I’m curious- you were living together before you got married, so what changed after you guys got the title of a married couple? Again, totally just wondering, not trying to judge =)

I think the biggest change was the joint bank account and trusting each other 100% with each other’s financial future. Besides the financial future, it’s the openess to discuss our futures as a whole. We went from saying “MY future kids” to “OUR future kids” or “when I retire” to “when WE retire” etc. There’s other things that I just can’t describe. Living together is one thing, but being married just feels different. Does it make sense? Not really, but it just does. πŸ™‚

Happy six month anniversary! Being married is a lot of work, but so much fun. I saw that someone asked what changed since you guys lived together before. My husband and I lived together three years before we got married, but there is definitely a different feeling once you’re married. It’s hard to explain….it’s just there. Not more love, but a different kind of love, deeper, with a stronger foundation. At least that’s been my experience. Enjoy your day!

I was just trying to answer that question and it looks like we ended up with the same answer. There are no words to describe it, but there is something deeper now that wasn’t there before.

Congrats on celebrating your six months, but I can definitely say that you two aren’t the only ones not to have printed off your weddings photos. I attended a wedding last December (bridesmaid) and the no-longer-newly-weds haven’t printed theirs off either πŸ™

Happy six months! I can definitely see why you would miss wedding planning. I’m a total planner, and I have a feeling when my wedding comes up someday, I’ll be totally into it. But I love weddings, so you know πŸ˜‰ I loved reading all your wedding posts too. My friend just got engaged last week (!!!) so I might send some posts her way for reference.
