Hiding Under My Pillow

by Meghann on February 19, 2013

And…. I’m pretty sure I won’t be sleeping at all tonight.

Gulp. What was I thinking watching Waking Dead?!

Yes, it was highly recommended. Yes, it has about a gazillion awards. Yes, my Twitter feed and Facebook newsfeed blow up every time a new episode comes on AMC.

I’m a big wimp when it comes to anything remotely scary or zombie related. I’m not built for that much anxiety!

Derek and I watched the first episode of Walking Dead on Netflix tonight and I spent the whole show hiding under a pillow.

Gah. I told you I was a wimp.

I’ve heard it gets better in later episodes, but I’m almost too terrified to find out. I think I need to take a day or two to recover from the pilot and let my heart rate come down first. :/

Are you a Walking Dead fan? Did the first episode give you a near-heart attack too?

Today’s snack: strawberry/ orange/ vanilla smoothie with a granola topper.

I love adding a granola topper to smoothies. It adds a nice crunch and, the best part is, once the smoothie is done, you can scrape the rest of the granola off the bottom with a spoon. Yum. yum. yum.

I tried this recipe for burmese spiced yogurt chicken for dinner tonight.

I used bone-in chicken breast instead of skinless/boneless, but I wish I would have deboned it before cooking. The bone-in chicken breast took about 30 minutes longer to cook than the recipe called for.

The chicken was good, but I wish I would have made more of the yogurt sauce to make up for the oversized chicken breast. I think this also would have been a better crock pot dish.

Alright, time to sleep. Let’s hope all the zombie nightmares stay far away!

Good Night!

LMAO There is a reason I will not watch horror movies. I just read the spoilers. I can handle scary stories more than movies. I still have not watched that show myself. Is it worth it?

I have never seen the Walking Dead, but more because I can’t handle gore than I can’t handle the fright!

Good luck getting to sleep tonight πŸ™‚

I don’t do horror movies or any thing of that nature..but The Walking Dead is one of my favorite shows (and the comics are just as good, if not better!)

And if a show can cause that much panic, it’s gotta be good, right? πŸ™‚

Thank you for the heads up on that show. I get TERRIFIED at anything scary. I remember seeing the previews for that horror movie Mama in theatres and it freaked me out for days afterwards!

Yeah. I’m not a fan of Walking Dead. Saw five minutes worth and I was like “I’m out of here!”. The movie ‘Alien’ always gave me nightmares too!

8 Kathleen@newversionofme February 20, 2013 at 5:21 am

I am the same way with anything scary! I have hear how good Walking Dead is but I REFUSE to watch it! I boycott anything scary. The last time I saw anything scary was at the movies and I spent the whole time with my ears covered and my eyes shut!!

9 Allison February 20, 2013 at 6:12 am

I can’t watch scary stuff either. I will have nightmares. Yikes!

Yepper! First episode had me running out of the room! But, I had to see what happened next. The rest of the episodes are great. Still waiting for Netflix to update more episodes. You get used to the zombies running around. Some episodes are more gory than others.

11 Erica February 20, 2013 at 6:41 am

ohmygosh- I’m the same way! I love scary movies…but they scare the life out of me. Granola on top of smoothies? SO good! I’m doing a special run coming up and would LOVE your support. Posted about it today!!

13 Caitlin February 20, 2013 at 8:04 am

I don’t watching the Walking Dead (although I feel like I should seeing as it’s filmed right here in Atlanta), but I feel the exact same way you do about scary/suspenseful shows. We’ve been watching The Following and it’s the same way- I spend half the show with my head turned to the side too terrified to watch.

14 Nicole@TheKidlessKronicles February 20, 2013 at 8:12 am

We will be starting it soon on Netflix as well. Glad to know it is good!

The very first episode I felt the exact same way! It’s helpful when you watch it with a boy. πŸ™‚ I hate to say that it still makes me extremely anxious to this day, even if there’s not a single zombie in sight cause you never know, one might just pop up and BAM! haha

16 Taylor @ Coffee & Combat Boots February 20, 2013 at 8:47 am

My husband watches it but I’m too scared! Just watching him flinch while he watches is enough to scare me away. Sometimes I even get scared during pretty little liars! I’m as big of a baby as they come πŸ™‚

17 Lauren @ Eat Like An Elephant February 20, 2013 at 9:11 am

I’m a total wimp too! Even though I know Walking Dead is the hot show right now, I just can’t do it! I know I’d be too scared…I think I’ll try Downtown Abbey first!

I can’t handle gore, scary things, or violence. Most recently, I couldn’t finish watching an episode of 90210, because Liam was being too violent. I don’t know if I’ll ever return. Better to stay safe by watching Hart of Dixie. No violence there!

Matt loves the walking dead but I can’t stand it. It’s not necessarily scary but def gross. The sound effects alone make me lose my appetite.

I use to live in Atlanta, and the Walking Dead blocked a major highway for filming two different times. It took me 2.5 hours to get home both of them! I don’t care if it is the best show in the world! I can’t wait it!!

I’m a HUGE Walking Dead fan!! Give it another shot! Yes, it is scary; Yes, it is gory; but it’s totally worth it because you get so attached to the characters! πŸ™‚

My fiance is a huge fan of The Walking Dead. It took a long time for him to convince me to watch because I DO NOT like scary stuff. For the first 2 seasons he had to cover my eyes every time something scary or gross was about to happen, but it does get better as it goes along and I can now watch it without having to have him cover my eyes. I am just as excited for new episodes as he is now. So I say, give it a chance, plus there are some pretty bad a$$ chicks on the show!

25 Jackie @ MomJovi February 20, 2013 at 9:41 am

I LOOOOOVED Season 1 of Walking Dead. The second season definitely dragged and there were FAR fewer zombies. The first few episodes I watched made me really jumpy, too, but I promise — you get used to them. Now it’s rare for me to even flinch during a zombie attack. Keep going. The story is great.

The EXACT same thing happened to me this weekend!! I enjoy old zombie movies, but me and my heart are not cut out for 3 seasons of this show!!! I too have heard that the story gets really good, but I dont know if my boyfriend will let me watch the second episode (he is the one who has to calm me down after I am scared of my own shadow afterward).

27 Dione February 20, 2013 at 9:49 am

I love The Walking Dead! It’s in my top 5 favorite shows and I’ve followed it from the beginning. It is creepy and gory and it does freak me out sometimes but that’s why I love it. I can handle it because its so far removed from reality. I even watch it and walk out into the cold dark winter night for my walk to work when I’m on nights. However, I can’t watch torture porn like Saw. And I can’t watch most war movies because I know that stuff happened and is happening right now. Reality can be scarier than fiction!

28 Rachel @ RachelRuns29.11 February 20, 2013 at 9:53 am

I get you. My heart can hardly take one episode, the anxiety gets to be too much! It’s addicting though and the story is so good! Enjoy!

29 Allie February 20, 2013 at 9:57 am

Yup, I’m the same way! My husband is obessed with that show. He knows to only watch it when I’m either sleeping or in another room. Criminal Minds give me nightmares, I can only imagaine what a zombie show would do to my sleep!

I nearly have a heart attack every week, but I’m OBSESSED with The Walking Dead. I’m in love with Daryl and will cause a riot if they kill him off. The first episode is pretty intense. There are some less intense episodes and some that are even more intense. I have actually had nightmares about it. But it’s totally worth it! It’s the greatest show ever!

I have only watched a few episodes during one of those Sunday marathons…and OMG I was terrified and disturbed. But, I could NOT stop watching…it was addictive because you wanted to see if the person made it out alive.
Finally, I just turned it off cuz I was meeting a friend to jog and vowed NEVER to watch again. No nightmares thank goodness πŸ™‚

32 Anne February 20, 2013 at 11:51 am

I am the biggest wuss. We walked out of “I Am Legend”, because I was too afraid of the zombies. And then I didn’t sleep that night. I 100% understand where you are coming from.
On that note, the first episode of the Walking Dead still gives me the most anxiety. We have now caught up to the current season, and it truly does get better. Also, whenever it gets too scary, I just walk over to the kitchen or go to the bathroom or something. I’d highly recommend trying to continue. It is so good now. Plus, by season 3, the zombies are much slower, I think.

33 Jessica February 20, 2013 at 12:34 pm

I wouldn’t really call it “scary” but it’s definitely gory and I think so far season 2 is my fave.

LOVE the Walking Dead!!! Daryl is my favorite! Watch a few more episodes and you’ll learn more about each character and be hooked! Did your hubby enjoy the Walking Dead?! My bf is semi-obsessed, as I am sure many guys are…

38 Melissa February 20, 2013 at 4:00 pm

My husband loves Walking Dead, but I will never understand why. I hate scary stuff like that!

39 Emily J February 20, 2013 at 6:35 pm

Yes, The Walking Dead made me jump the first episode! I am like you, too: not good with scary stuff. However, it’s less full of zombies in the later episodes. Plus you get used to them! Still some occasional jumps, though.

40 mi-an dela cruz February 20, 2013 at 9:26 pm

i have to comment because i love the walking dead!! and i am the biggest wimp!! but you just have to keep watching!!!! it’s really really really really fricken good!!!!

41 Megan February 20, 2013 at 9:57 pm

It’s a great show. I was never into zombie anything until I started watching The Walking Dead. It’s not just about zombies…it’s the story that hooked me. I find myself really rooting for (or really hating) the characters. Yes, it’s intense (there were a few scenes that I had to walk out of the room) but I think it’s sooo worth it to keep watching. You will get hooked!

If you do decide to stick with it, AMC is re-airing the first season on Thursday nights. But the episodes are in black and white, which may be more scary…but just wanted to let you know!

Watched season 1 of Walking Dead in one sitting. We started in the morning since I hate watching scary movies at night. I can’t handle it anymore. We haven’t watched season 2 or 3 because….eh, I dunno. the zombies freak me out waaaaay too much. And yes, I hide behind my pillow numerous times.
