Wedding: The Shoes

by Meghann on December 28, 2012

The shoes! Can you believe I almost forgot about the shoes?!

Truth be told they weren’t a high priority to me. I know, I know, feel free to take away my girly-girl card right now. I’m just not a shoe person and couldn’t justify spending $$$ on what is essentially an accessory. Sure, I’ll spurge on a nice dress, but shoes? Eh.

My original plan was to wear my cowgirl boots for the reception and get a nice pair of navy heels for the ceremony. I started casually looking for the navy heels almost as soon as I got engaged and found nothing I liked. Do you know how hard it is to find a cute pair of navy heels that aren’t $100+?! Pretty darn hard.

So I gave up. I just didn’t care enough about the shoes to really put an effort into the search. I decided to wear my cowgirl boots for both the ceremony and the reception and be done with it. Did I really need navy heels for the ceremony? Nope. I did not.

Of course, just when I decided to give up, I found something. They weren’t navy, they weren’t anything even close to what I had envisioned, but as soon as I put them on I knew they were perfect.

Gold heels from DSW for a whopping $49.99. Score!

I’m already planning on wearing them for New Years Eve and the rehearsal dinner. That way I can break them in a little before the wedding.

I’m sticking with my original plan and wearing the heels for the ceremony and photos, then changing into my boots for the reception and dancing the night away in them. I can’t wait!

Did you buy special shoes for your wedding? Did you go with white or a pop of color?

Love the shoes! It’s funny how the perfect thing comes into light just when you stop looking for what you thought you wanted. Fate!

Cute shoes!! I bet they will look very nice with the dress.

I wore cute red heels that I already owned. My dress was knee length so my shoes really popped. I loved it.

I wore purple flats! I loved them and they made for the typical adorable picture of my shoes and his colorful (purple argyle) socks together.

I wore cowgirl boots for my wedding, too ๐Ÿ™‚ I wore them during the ceremony and then during the reception I changed into a shorter dress and left them on. I loved it and they were so comfortable.

Gorgeous shoes!!! You are going to make such a beautiful bride and will have SO MUCH FUN!!! I found some cute Nina brand shoes in an ivory color that had a flower on the ankle for my wedding. I loved them and wish I had an excuse to wear them again ๐Ÿ™‚

My wedding shoes were essentially nice flip flops with a kitten heel. Part of me wishes I’d done something more fun (at that time, Ann Taylor was selling super cute heels that matched my green sash and my bridesmaids’ dresses). But, as much as cute heels would have been fun, they always hurt my feet, and I’m glad that my shoes didn’t prevent me from dancing the night away.

Those shoes are beautiful, and very wintery wonderlandish ๐Ÿ™‚

I was the same way and didn’t care too much about shoes. When I stopped looking I actually came across a super sparkly silver pair of flats that were on sale in Macys for $24.99 – and with one of my bridal shower gift cards – they were free and matched my winter wonderland theme perfectly. They are definitely wearable as a dressy pair of flats now and my bridesmaids wrote sweet messages all over the bottom of them, so now they are meaningful too!

Like you – I wanted a pair of coloured heels (I wanted green) – but the only ones I could find were really really expensive.

Instead I went with fancy flip flops for the ceremony (no one could see my feet, so I could have worn anything really) and then with my dress switcharoo, I had gold Steve Madden heels that cost $60 or something like that.

Love them! And I love DSW. I’m thinking that whenever I get married, it may be in some flats.

Pretty! Even though they aren’t navy, I think those shoes will fit right in with your wedding vision! I wore blue shoes for my wedding. (They were my something blue.) I wore them around the house when I was doing the dishes, laundry, that kind of thing, to break them in.*

Gotta love when plans work out unexpectedly like that!

I shopped high and low for a pair of shoes for my wedding, but then I realized I should have just looked in my own closet. I had a really great pair of blue/turquoise peep toe pumps that were perfect…and they were already broken in since I’d had them for almost 2 years. Smartest idea ever.

I know a lot of women go out and buy a fancy schmancy pair of shoes for the wedding, and that it totally cool – I was doing it too at first, for heaven’s sake! But, in the end, if you’re wearing a floor length dress no one really gets to see those shoes except if you lift the dress up…so going with a tried and true pair that you know are broken in and comfy is great!

I just bought silver glitter flats from Payless for $16. Love them! I also plan on wearing some running shoes for a couple photos since we are both runners.

Ooh. Those are gorgeous!!!!!!! The sparkle is Def a good fit with the snowflake theme.

So I’m currently looking for shoe for my wedding and was wondering what you were doing about having two different height heels? I was thinking about wearing heels at the ceremony and flats at the reception, but then isn’t the dress too long (or too short)?

I was the opposite. Finding shoes was a HUGE priority for me because I hate heels, am a total wimp about toe blisters, and have terrible PF so they have to be super comfortable and supportive. As a result I ordered no less than 8 pairs of purple heels, one after another, and shipped each pair back when they weren’t comfy enough. Rinse, repeat.
Eventually I found the right ones though!

I spent forever looking for my shoes! They had to be purple and perfect! I finally found purple sequined shoes with a bow and loved them! They were a size too big but my bridesmaids helped fix that problem (day of…oops!) . I have some great shots of my shoes with my jewelry and me lifting my dress slightly. And since they were 4 1/2 heels (I never wear heels!!), I didn’t have to get my dress hemmed and I got platform sandals to wear for the reception

I fell in love with an epic pair of red heels. I wore them the day of my bridal shower and then afterwards to an early Christmas dinner… at the end of the day they were on for 12 hours and felt good, so I’m thrilled.

Love the gold shoes!

Mine are red satin peep-toe. I’m having my dress hemmed to be a little shorter so you can see them (and so if I switch into flats my dress doesn’t drag too much).

My shoes were gold sparkly holographic something or other… but I never wore them. They were for photos only, I wore flip flops all day and all night. They actually broke while dancing! As a wedding photographer who has shot countless shoes, my advice would be to be comfortable. A good photographer will shoot whatever you have with you, regardless of whether you wear it or not. ๐Ÿ˜‰
