Holiday Leftovers

by Meghann on December 26, 2012

The best part about any holiday celebration is the delicious amount of leftovers that always follow the next day.

Like Christmas ham with my morning eggs.

Or a Harry & David Pear (thanks to Derek’s parents!)

What’s the day after Christmas without a turkey sandwich?

We didn’t have any cranberry sauce, but a little bit of fig preserves worked just fine.

Oh, and you can’t forget the ham bone!

That went into the split pea soup I had going in the slow cooker all day.

mmmm… soooo good.

Split pea soup is probably one of the ugliest soups out there, but damn it’s tasty.

What’s your favorite way to enjoy holiday leftovers? I have some more turkey I plan on turning into a turkey pot pie this week! (another favorite!)

P.S. Derek and I applied for our marriage license today!

It was surprisingly easy. All we needed were our IDs, $93, and a completed form. Basically it’s more complicated applying for a credit card than it is a marriage license.

We don’t have to sign anything else. We just hand the paper over to our officiant and he’ll take care of it from here.

Only 10 more days to go!!

Wow! $93! It was only $40 here in PA! Congrats, makes it that much more real!

Yeah, $93 is a lot! I think my 2008 marriage license was only $30.

The wedding is so soon. The next few weeks will be a whirlwind!

3 Kelly December 27, 2012 at 10:52 am

Mine (2009) was only $25!! Wow.

4 Meghann December 28, 2012 at 9:32 am

What state were you married in? They offer a discount for pre-marriage counseling in Florida, but that still only brings the price down to $60-ish

5 Ellll December 27, 2012 at 12:20 pm

Ours was only $40 because in MN you get a $70 discount for attending marriage preparation classes. Which I think was worth it for multiple reasons!

Wonderful news! Congrats!

Leftovers – my mom usually dumps everything into the crockpot with broth overnight and voila – stew!

it was 93? That’s how much we paid in Florida because we were out of state – but i thought it said if both parties were in state residents that the fee was more like $50 – did you have to take a marriage class? I thought it was weird that on the application it said that if you were in state florida residents you must complete a “class”

In my state (MN) you have to complete the classes in order to receive a reduced Marriage License fee. Maybe the same for FL.

17 Meghann December 28, 2012 at 9:31 am

That’s true here. If you have marriage counseling before hand, the fee is reduced to $60.

This is SOOO exciting!!! Me and my HTB {husband to be} still need to apply for our marriage license so I’m happy to hear that the process isn’t too intense. Good to know!

I was curious if there was any issues with putting your new hyphenated last name on the form?
