Little Miss Athlete

by Meghann on October 6, 2012

I like to say Callie was my first Tampa friend. We met right when I was making the big decision to move to town at the end of 2010. Back then she was just pregnant with her first baby (the adorable Mini Athlete) and I was navigating a new town where I didn’t know anyone. We clicked instantly and in the short 2 years we’ve known each other since, it’s crazy how much our friendship has grown (and how much it means to me!). I was at the hospital (with Publix subs in hand!) the day after her son was born, her husband played a role in Derek’s proposal plan, and I had to swear to keep my lips sealed when Callie told me she was 7 weeks pregnant back in April (I’m usually a horrible secret keeper so this was huge).

Thankfully the cat’s out of the bag now. Callie is 31 weeks along with “Little Miss Athlete” and absolutely glowing. We came together today to celebrating Little Miss’ pending arrival with a baby shower.

The shower was co-hosted by two of Callie’s good friends in St. Pete and I think they did a fabulous job. I loved all of the decorations with adorable pink and girly touches.

The food was a tasty brunch-themed spread.

Complete with cake – yum.

Check out the bunter banners. The host, Jennifer, cut the triangles out of scrapbook paper and stringed them together with a pink ribbon. So easy, even I bet I can do that.

(I had a couple of mimosas ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

The lady of the hour and the wonderful hostesses.

No baby shower would be complete without a game! Each of our plates had a special pink-themed clothespin on top. We were instructed to clip the clothespin to our shirts and abstain from saying the word “baby” while wearing it, otherwise we would have to give it up to whoever caught us.

I lasted until present time, then I was a goner.

My plate.

Everything was delicious. I ended up going back for more quiche and fruit.

Present time!

Since most of the women in attendance were mothers of daughters, everyone was asked to offer words of wisdom to Callie when she got to their gift. For those of us who weren’t mothers of daughters, we were all someone’s daughter, so were told to go off of that. I loved this idea because it kept opening presents interesting (since everyone had a good story to share) and it was a good way to get to know everyone attending. There were some funny ones (like don’t let Little Miss near Mini Athlete’s friends when she’s older) and some heartfelt ones (like not losing her own identity in being a mom). I’ll have to remember this for the next shower I throw.

(in case you can’t read the bibs above, they say “I’d rather be blogging” and “click ‘like’ if you think I’m cute” <– loved those!)

Callie’s sister wins for most creative gift. She ordered Callie a baby monitor online, but it didn’t arrive in time for the shower so she made a mock-up of the system with two cans and a string. One said “Mommy” the other said “Baby.”

I’m usually not a chocolate cake fan, but this was delicious. The cake came from Wright’s Deli in Tampa, apparently I need to get there for lunch PRONTO (and save room for dessert).

Oh! And guess who win the clothespin baby game?

Ashlyn (Callie’s little sister) took the quiet approach with the game and won by shying away from baby-themed conversations. Well played, Ashlyn. Well played.

The baby shower was a blast. Callie recently moved an hour south of Tampa and we all miss her to pieces up here. It was nice spending the day celebrating someone we all love so much and her ever expanding family.

Congrats Callie! Can’t wait to meet Little Miss Athlete in November!

I spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out in St. Pete with friends watching football. THANK YOU to everyone who let me know when my site went down temporarily this afternoon. Everything should be working now (otherwise you wouldn’t be able to read this post!), but if it happens again, please feel free to tweet or message me to let me know something is up. ๐Ÿ™‚

Derek and I wanted something easy for dinner tonight and decided to make a quick run to PDQ.

I ordered the chicken tender box with honey mustard.

Football time!

Can FSU go 6-0 for the first time since 1999?!?! Damn straight. (edited to add: I guess not. )

Good Night!

Pitch Perfect

What do you do with leftover sweet potato soup? Make pizza with it – duh! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Good pizza, too! The idea came to me last night when I was putting the leftover soup away and spotted the pizza dough I had purchased on Sunday thanks to a BOGO deal. The leftover soup was thick and more ยป
