The Little Dog That Runs

by Meghann on August 6, 2012

Good Morning, Maddie!

Are you ready to run?

What? Run? When? Now? Heck, yeah!

Maddie was a fur ball of energy this morning. I try not to take her out for runs during the summer due to the heat, but the heat and humidity were not as bad today. She was so excited and so ready to go, that I strapped the leash on her and took her for a quick 3 miles.

Maddie was on cloud 9. Her little tail was high in the air and she had no desire to stop to sniff other dogs or chase squirrels, all she wanted to do was run and she was very happy with that.

We did an out and back at a steady 9:00 min/mi pace. When we returned, she grabbed a toy and continued to burn her energy attempting to destroy it. Good dog.

While Maddie was squeaking, I did a circuit of jumping jacks, punches, push ups, high knees, and butt kicks – repeated three times at a quick pace.

  • Granola
  • Honey Nut Cheerios
  • Walnuts
  • Chobani Chocolate Yogurt (free sample)
  • Strawberries

I’m usually a fan of Chobani yogurts, but I just could not get into their new Chocolate Chunk variety. Way too sweet, and what is it with chocolate themed greek yogurts being so thin? The chocolate Oikos is the same way. I think the chocolate Chobani would be good as a smoothie addition, but not on its own.

Have you tried the new flavor? Thoughts?

Time to get this Monday started.

Have a great week everyone!

I haven’t tried that Chobani yet – I am curious though! You can’t even get Chobani in this part of Ontario yet. Sadness πŸ™

Isn’t that a bit mean not to walk your dog considering you live in a condo? We have a dog and I walk up early in the morning before it gets hot or later in the evening. I couldn’t imagine how sad (and hyper) he would be if I never walked him.

I take her for a walk multiple times a day, but there’s a difference between walking and running. This morning I took her for a run, which is something I don’t do as often in the summer because of the heat. However, I do take her to the open field and let her run on her own with a ball, but I limit that to 10-15 minutes at a time, where our 3 mile runs are more like 30. πŸ™‚

My boyfriend takes our pup on runs. She’s got a heavy duty fur coat so we try to avoid taking her out in the summer too. It’s so funny after a run to see what dogs do. Ours is exhausted and then tries to lay flat like a pancake on the cold tile in the kitchen. Silly dogs.

I’m always surprised that Maddie doesn’t do the same. She’s usually more wound up when she returns and runs laps of the apartment. Crazy puppy.

Your breakfast looks delicious! I never would have thought to combine strawberries with walnuts, but it sounds like a good combination. And the extra Omega-3s in the walnuts can’t hurt, either.

Walnuts are my new favorite nut, they taste great in everything!

So agree. I love CHO but was not a fan of that variety either…

I haven’t tried the chocolate chobani yet, that’s too bad that it’s thin. I love my greek yogurt thick and creamy! Haha and you typed Honey But Cheerios, made me laugh πŸ™‚ I suggest keeping it, or even changing it to Butt, which is obviously where my mind went…

I am stuck on pineapple cho. I refuse to believe there are other flavors.

I haven’t tried the new Chobani yet. What a bummer. I was equally excited by Oikos when it first came out but I agree that it’s very watery.

Theres chocolate chobani? I want some! Haven’t seen that in my stores yet! Do you have any dog parks nearby? I dog sit for my friends fenchie often and I take him super early in the am, like 6, before I go running to burn off some energy. I’m sure maddie has way more energy than a chubby frenchie to use up !

I love how you say a “quick 3 miles”!
Let’s just say that I ran my very first consecutive 3 miles yesterday…and it was anything but quick. I have to acknowledge that without reading this blog and other runners’ blogs because of yours, I may have never run a single mile in my adult life. I may or may not “catch” the running bug, but I do know I may never have tried without Meals and Miles πŸ™‚
