Swamp Bash & Dash Registration Giveaway!

by Meghann on July 9, 2012

Derek and I bought a whole wheat baguette on our way to Screen on the Green on Friday night. When I picked it out I had this romantic vision of us peeling off pieces of the bread and pairing it with the delicious gouda I had also selected. I figured that was the “grown up” thing to do while sipping on red wine.

However, Derek knows me better than I do. While I was grabbing pricey cheese and a baguette, he was waiting in line for chicken tenders. Guess which of those three items was devoured first and which were left barely touched?

Yep, we left the picnic with almost a whole baguette and a lot of fancy cheese, but no chicken tenders. What? Those babies were good. My man chose well. πŸ˜‰

So, where does that leave me? With a lot of sandwiches to make.

Yesterday I made a tempeh/ kale creation, but today I went the classic veggie route.

Tomatoes, cucumbers, hummus, and fancy cheese. Doesn’t get much better than that.

Oh, and leftover rutabaga fries (with lots of ketchup!) on the side.

Let’s just say I’m not complaining about having the extra baguette in the house. πŸ˜‰

Swamp Bash & Dash Registration Giveaway!

Not going to lie, race registrations are one of my FAVORITE things to give away on the blog. I think it’s because as an avid runner and racer, I know how invaluable a free race can be! Especially when it’s a fun race like the Swamp Dash & Bash coming to Gainesville this October!

From the Swamp Dash & Bash site:

Looking for an event that challenges your stamina and strength to its limits? Then it’s time to get your underwear dirty–literally–at Swamp Dash & Bash! Maneuver your way through insane mud pits and challenging obstacles in the slimiest course around, and extend the fun by celebrating your triumph at our after-party.

Do you have what it takes to conquer the Swamp? This mud bath is no day at the spa!

I LOVE mud/obstacle races! I’ve done two (Champions Mud Bash and Savage Race) and love that they take the typical 5k and just make it fun. There’s generally no pressure of time and racers are encouraged to work together as a team to get across the finish line.

Swamp Dash_2012 487.JPG

Unfortunately, I will be out of town the weekend of October 13th, so I will not be participating in this fall’s Swamp Dash & Bash but, lucky for you, the race team handed over one FREE race registration to give away to one local Meals and Miles reader!

If you think you have what it takes to race the Swamp Dash & Bash on October 13th in Gainesville, FL, leave a comment on this post with your favorite race costume by Wednesday, July 11th at noon and I will draw a winner during my afternoon post.

*This contest is for a free race entry ONLY and does not cover travel expenses to the race.

Registration for the 2nd North Florida Swam Dash and Bash is now open – Check it out!

Good luck!

For this race, an Albert the alligator costume would be great – but probably cumbersome! I’d love to win – Gainesville is my hometown and I have yet to do a mud race!

2 Nadine M. July 9, 2012 at 3:42 pm

So many ideas for race costumes, but since it’s in Gainesville I would probably have to rock FSU Noles gear! War Paint and all. Maybe even some feathers & pigtails! πŸ™‚

Congrats, Nadine! You won the giveaway! Send an email to to collect your prize!

I’ve never run a race so I don’t have a favorite existing.. but I would love to do this race in a UF cheer leader costume! Or since I’d be muddying up and desecrating it, maybe an FSU outfit would be more appropriate? Haha!

Just started C25K last week and restarted a boot camp.. I’d have to keep my butt in get fit, stay fit gear if I win!

Ahhh I wish I could do that run, it looks like a blast! And I totally forgot about rutabega fries, I need to make some again! So good.

that is the tiniest sandwich I have ever seen! does that actually keep you full for long??

7 Meghann July 9, 2012 at 4:29 pm

I think the long plate size made the sandwich look smaller. If you look closely there are 4 cucumber slices side by side, and 2 tomato slices places side-by-side that give a better view of the size. Also, that’s 1/2 a large rutabaga worth of fries, which also doesn’t look like much in the photos, but was quite filling.

No one believes you.

What happened to you using common household items for size reference? You did it once, with a soup can, when you admittedly ate more than you regularly did.
From what I see, it’s 4 cucumbers arranged in a square. Your sandwich can still not be any longer than 3″. I just think it’s irresponsible to people who are trying to emulate your eating habits. From how it appears from the portion sizes you eat, and how much you exercise, you emulate disordered behavior as opposed to healthy eating and exercise habits. Do you eat food that you don’t put on the blog?
What happened to following the nutrition advice from your trainer?

So many UF-themed options! Albert & Alberta for a couple, Gator football players for a team, Tebow for individuals…

Sounds like a great race!

Being a gator, I’d have to rock some orange and blue sort of crazy costume for this race! πŸ™‚

12 jennifer July 9, 2012 at 5:02 pm

My knee high socks that say “badass” cuz thats how I feel when I’m doing mud races!!!

13 Shannon July 9, 2012 at 5:31 pm

I’m a college student in Gainesville and I’d love to do this race! My favorite race costume is a tiara and a tutu…I’m going to run the Disney princess half in February πŸ™‚

14 Stephanie July 9, 2012 at 5:57 pm

I think my favorite race costumes are in the Disney races. I ran the Princess Half Marathon this past year and my friend and coworker and I dressed as fairies. It was SO much fun running in a costume and feeling pretty during a race. πŸ™‚

15 Kristen @ notsodomesticated July 9, 2012 at 6:32 pm

As a Gator alum, I would LOVE to go back to Gainesville for this race! I’ve been looking for a reason to go back, anyway! I would definitely do some type of costume that gives support to my fellow alum, Tim Tebow. πŸ˜‰

Superhero!! or Disney Princess

18 Tracy July 9, 2012 at 7:48 pm

My go to costume is usually a tutu of some sort. For this race I would have to make one in USF colors just to represent.

19 Jenni July 9, 2012 at 8:31 pm

Flash. It’s always gotta be Flash.

I’ve never dressed up for a race, but I would love to at some point!

My Batgirl costume with cape for sure!!!! I read your blog every day, and tell ALL my running friends about you:) I am training for the Marine Corps Marathon late in October, and the mud bash would be the perfect fun event to do just before. PICK MEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

21 Kelsey July 9, 2012 at 9:20 pm

Our team ran the last Savage race in hot pink tutus – we even had the guys decked out in hot pink! Loved it!! This is in my town, I ran the first Swamp D&B (so fun!) and would love to run this one!

22 Cait's Plate July 9, 2012 at 9:43 pm

Love running in a tutu and tiara. My husband, and father in law are UF alums, so I have a soft spot for the swamp!

24 Kristina July 10, 2012 at 8:21 am

I have bever dressed up for a race before, but since this is in my hometown and I am a big Gator fan, I would have to rock the knee high arange and blue socks with a jersey and a tutu!

25 Melissa July 10, 2012 at 9:22 am

Definitely something orange and blue, because I feel like the full gator costume would be too much for a mud run, haha. I’m moving to Gainesville in August to start graduate school there and I would love to have a fun race to look forward to before I even leave!

26 Carrie L. July 10, 2012 at 2:48 pm

I believe my favorite race costume would be the people in full suits that run the Corporate 5K here in Orlando. I admire those people so much!! Such an intense outfit to run in!!

27 amyt July 10, 2012 at 3:03 pm

I’d go FSU all the way!!!!
