Fry Night

I needed a little “me” time this afternoon, so when the clock struck 5 o’clock I grabbed my latest issue of Runner’s World and headed straight to the gym.

Earlier I had tweeted about researching fast 5k or 10k plans (I figure if I want to keep my runs low mileage for a while, I might as well work at getting faster at that low mileage) and a few people had recommended looking at the “Run Your Fastest 5k Ever” section in the latest issue.

I spent 30 minutes walking on the treadmill with the issue, but the 5k section wasn’t as informative as I was hoping. Instead of offering an actual plan, it just shared a few workout options in the weeks leading up to the race with some sound advice attached to it. Eh. Not exactly what I needed. II’m going to check out Hal Higdon’s advanced 5k plan next.

By the way, I never realized how much of a faithful morning gym goer I was until I had three separate gym employees ask why I was in there this afternoon. Even better, two of them asked if I was just there that morning and why I had returned. First of all, I wasn’t there this morning! I was at a different pool! And is it really that weird if I’m there in the afternoon?

Of course, I was reminded why I’m not an afternoon gym person- crowds! The crazy, busy 5:30pm gym scene ain’t got nothin’ on the 6:30am gym scene – like night and day. I had saved the “Give a 10” Weights Workout on my phone (which I had originally pinned from Pinterest) and tried to do as much of it as I could, but gave up waiting on the rack barbell and there just wasn’t any room to do true walking lunges. Darn, crowds.

Before the gym, I had a couple of handfuls of trail mix.


Somehow tonight’s dinner became a mishmosh of brown and yellow. Comfort food, really.

I always receive requests for size comparisons of my plates, so i took a random photo of my food next to a can of vegetable broth for comparison (the vegetable broth is your standard can size).

I have a post in the works with my various plate sizes and such, but I’m still in need of more photos for that. As you can tell my habit is to eat off of the smaller plate in the set. I noticed that Derek ate off the larger plate for his dinner tonight and his food was a little more spread out, but looked like more food than mine (even though it was pretty much the same, he had one more piece of fried green tomato than I had). Plates (and photos!) can be deceiving. That’s a whole ear of corn, a whole piece of halibut, and two giant slices of fried green tomatoes up there.

But, yeah, we can talk about that more later.

I pulled a Mango Cupcake out of the freezer for dessert.


IIt had a slight tinge of freezer burn to it. I think the rest of the cupcakes in the freezer may be heading to the trash soon, we’ll see how much longer they last.

Man, I am wiped. It’s been a long day – time for bed so I can get up and do it all over again.

In need of a smile
