Blogger On the Run

by Meghann on April 5, 2012

Guess what? (chicken butt)

I did stage 7-5 of New Rules of Lifting for Women this morning.

IMG_1664.JPG

Do you know what that means? It means I only have ONE workout left!

That’s it! After 9 months of following the NROLFW program (granted it was supposed to only take 6 months, but life happens), I’m only ONE workout away from being done! Woo hoo!

I was afraid my knee would bother me after yesterday’s fall, but it wasn’t sore at all when I woke up. It felt more like a scrape than a bruise, which is a good sign it that should heal quickly and swiftly. Though, I’m sure a nice scar is in my future.

IMG_1663.JPG

Nice, right?

And since a couple of you asked... yes, it’s the same knee I had stitches in last summer. I guess my left knee is just more prone to taking the brunt of falls and accidents than the right one. Oh, well.

So, yeah, the knee didn’t bother me and I was even able to go up in weights with my workout this morning. Overall, I’d call the second-to-last NROLFW workout a success. 🙂

Post-workout I made a bowl of semi-overnight oats.

IMG_1644.JPG

They’re only semi-overnight because I only had them in the fridge for 20 minutes before I dug in. This is a faster, easier method for making ‘overnight’ oats since it doesn’t require you to remember to prep the breakfast the night before, but it’s just not the same. The oats don’t thicken up and the flavors don’t come together quite the same.

IMG_1648.JPG

My quick overnight oats mix consisted of:

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • plain greek yogurt
  • milk
  • chocolate whey protein powder (Whole Food brand)
  • chia seeds
  • NatureBox Dried Cherries
  • walnuts
  • cinnamon

On top:

Next time it will be worth the extra effort to remember to prep the overnight oats the night before. 20 minutes in the fridge is so not the same. :p

Hi! I know I have to go to the website to win, but I just wanted to share why I like to run 🙂 Three years ago (has it really been that long!?) I was training for my first race when I realized something was really wrong with my back…after longer distances I couldnt walk the next day and I would lay on the floor and literally scream. Some nights I would even sleep on the floor. They found a cyst in my spine that goes from my neck to my tailbone. After THREE YEARS of rehab (which is on going) and more doctors appts. than my insurance company cares to count, I can finally RUN AGAIN! That is why I love to run! Because you never know when you won’t be able to! It’s a gift not bestowed on many 🙂

I love to run because it’s my “me time.” It makes me feel strong, and it’s my time to forget about all of the stuff I have on my plate and just focus on giving my body the love it deserves.

Eh, you might get lucky and not end up with a scar after all (although I do kind of love them, because they’re badass battle scars). I got my knees pretty badly beat to hell (it looked like I had a second kneecap growing out of my shin) when I got dragged through the rocks in a whitewater river two weekends ago, but so far it’s not looking like it’ll even scar. Yours might not either!

26 Jessica @ The Process of Healing April 5, 2012 at 1:07 pm
