Road Trippin’ Take II

by Meghann on March 17, 2012

Here we go again!

Talk about having a serious case of deja vu! πŸ˜‰

Only this time, instead of the car being wired for WiFi, I’m taking advantage of the mobile hotspot via my Verizon Droid Razr (sweet!).

I’m going to be really sad when I have to give this feature up next month (when the brand ambassadorship program ends). I love how easy and convenient it is to connect to and – in some cases – it had a faster connection than the hotels we stopped at last week that had free WiFi. When ever I struggled with any of those connections, I would just turn the mobile hotspot on on the phone and be fine.

(of course, now that I’ve written all this, it’s now giving me trouble. grrr. #jinx)

We left Tampa at 4:45(!) this morning and are slowly making our way up to Atlanta. The trip is roughly an 8 hour drive (which sounds like nothing compared to the 20 it took us from Austin to Orlando earlier this week). πŸ˜‰

Hitting the road so early wasn’t so bad. We made sure everything was packed the night before and set our alarms for 10 minutes before Derek’s parents were scheduled to be our door. All we had to do was get up and get dressed and we were ready to go.

So far the trip has involved a lot of this.

Derek makes a good pillow. πŸ˜‰ I think we’ve more than made up for last night’s lack of sleep. Many thanks to Derek’s parents for driving the first legs of the trip. πŸ™‚

We stopped at McDonald’s for a quick breakfast/potty break/coffee run and I ordered a small orange juice.

I wasn’t sure if there would be any breakfast stops, so I had packed a jar of overnight oats just in case.

In the jar:

  • almond butter
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • vanilla Oikos
  • chia seeds
  • milk
  • cinnamon
  • raisins
  • strawberries

Good to the last drop.

The overnight oats in a jar was an excellent choice for breakfast on-the-go. I simply prepped it the night before and just had to throw jar in the cooler this morning. When I was ready to eat it, I just popped the lid off and dug in. There was no mess and I simply tossed the jar (in a recycling bin) once I was done. Perfect.

I ended up falling asleep again after having breakfast and had one of the muffin’s Derek’s mom had brought when I woke up a couple of hours later.

Blueberry + Chocolate Chip = Yum!

We’re getting so close!

See ya in Atlanta!

Are you a car sleeper?

I can crash ANYWHERE, but put me in a car and it’s usually not long before I’m out like a light.

It depends, as a front seat passenger I cannot sleep, I am too paranoid no matter who the driver is and feel I need to stay awake for them. Back seat passenger I can probably fall asleep about 50% of the time on longer road trips.

I am so not a car sleeper! I don’t know what it is, but I just can’t fall asleep in the car. Occasionally I’ll doze off if it’s insanely late, but only for a couple minutes and then I jerk back awake!

I feel kinda gross when I fall asleep anywhere and I usually have to stop and brush my teeth so I can feel fresh again.

I am so jealous of people that can sleep in a car or sleep anywhere. I am not a sound sleeper.

I too am jealous of car sleepers…..I get motion sickness and even with dramamine I maybe can sleep a bit but wake up some times with even more tummy upsetness (yea .. I don’t think that’s a word but oh, well!)

It’s best I drive while in the car… I do a lot of that and everyone else gets to sleep. ;0(

I am not a car sleeper (or airplane sleeper)! Sometimes if I am super tired I can doze off for a little while.

Welcome to Atlanta – it’s a beautiful day & everything is starting to bloom. Just watch out for the pollen! Fortunately it doesn’t bother me, just coats everything in yellow dust πŸ™‚

I can fall asleep in the car but usually I wake up with a horrible kink in my neck. That leads to a headache and car sickness. So I try to stay awake in the car!

Bravo to you for doing another road trip so soon!

Lucky you! I never sleep in the car. I’ve not tried overnight oats yet but that jar sure looked good!

Mmm sometimes I can sleep in the car but I always wake up with the worst pain in my neck from being in an odd position.

I have driving narcolepsy. I can’t drive any longer than say 1 hour before I am falling asleep at the wheel. If I am not driving? I am asleep within 10 minutes:-)

Have fun on your trip!

I am notorious for falling asleep in the car. My husband always makes fun of me for it. We cannot go on trips that involve the highway (well, I mean, longer than like an hour) without me falling asleep.

I am a car sleeper. Mostly because I think it keeps me from getting car sick on super long drives. Unless I’m driving and then I don’t get car sick nor do I fall asleep.. πŸ˜‰

I can never seem to sleep in the car – I always want to and TRY to, but never can! Though in NZ, our car trips are never too long to get places, so its usually ok πŸ™‚

Do you know that this Sunday is Publix Georgia Marathon in Centennial Olympic Park?

16 Meghann March 18, 2012 at 8:36 am

I just found out yesterday! If I had realized it before hand I may have signed up. πŸ˜‰ But again this trip is about family, not running a race, so I’m happy to sleep in this morning and have breakfast with the family πŸ™‚

17 nervo4ka March 18, 2012 at 12:13 pm

I would say you didn’t miss a lot because all the course is just killing uphill. :((

18 Allison @ Running Through Red Lights March 18, 2012 at 12:22 am

I love sleeping in the car! I lose all neck control whenever I sleep while traveling, so my head is always flopping all over the place–my husband is always sure to tell me how entertaining I was as soon as I wake up. 8)

I sleep really really well in a car. When I was a baby and couldn’t sleep, my parents would put me in my car seat and drive me around until I did.

McDonald’s orange juice is always good in the morning. They just got new smoothies too – those would be great for bfast!
