Savage Race Giveaway

by Meghann on February 22, 2012

There’s something about today’s lunch that just makes me smile.

IMG_9241.JPG

I think it’s all the bright colors. You really can not go wrong with a brightly colored lunch.

In the mix

  • spinach
  • tomatoes
  • green beans
  • carrots
  • chickpeas
  • almonds
  • mozzarella cheese

On top – the last biscuit with pumpkin butter.

IMG_9247.JPG

Yes, the colors were pretty, but I think the biscuit was what put this meal over the top. πŸ˜‰

Savage Race Giveaway

Alright, Central Florida – who’s ready to get dirty?

DSCF6965.JPG

The Savage Race is returning to Orlando on March 10th and I have TWO free entries to giveaway!

In case you’re not familiar with The Savage Race, I’ll just say there’s a reason they call it ‘the race built to kick your ass‘ because – well – it kicks your ass. I ran, swam, and scaled 8ft walls at the 2011 race back in August, and I will tell you that it was not easy. Extremely fun and challenging, but not easy.

DSCF6843.JPG DSCF6915.JPG

So if you are up for the challenge of this year’s race, I have to warn you that even though this year’s race is in the exact same location as August’s race, I’ve heard rumors that the Savage Race team added another mile to the course and a handful of obstacles to go with it. It shall be epic.

Savage Race Logo.png

You can still register for the March 10th Savage Race online or, if you’re a local and feeling lucky, leave a comment on this post telling me what your craziest made-up obstacle would be in an event like Savage Race. Please feel free to use your imagination, i.e. I would add a bungee jumping obstacle where you would plunge over alligators. You know – to keep it interesting.

You have until tomorrow night at midnight to enter. I will draw two lucky winners Friday morning.

Good Luck!

I’m not in FL, but if I were I totally wish I would win. Good luck to anyone who does that–it looks awesome!

Oh man, I’m in Orlando and would LOVE to win this! I’ve wanted to do a race like this for a while now!

I’ll one-up your bungee jumping and vote sky-diving! Something else I need to get someone to try with me at some point πŸ™‚

3 Christina S. February 22, 2012 at 3:29 pm

I’m in Central Florida and I really wanted to do this race!

I think it would be awesome to have a big muddy hill obstacle that you would have to roll your way down, just to get the full effect of the mud. Then land in a water hole of some kind and have to climb your way out with only a rope.

4 Meghann February 27, 2012 at 11:35 am

Congrats! You’ve won! Please send an email to mealsandmiles@gmail.com to collect your prize!

Fun! Watching grown men wrestle small animals (i.e. baby cows, baby pigs, etc) is always hilarious and definitely be wild!

It sounds awesome and terrifying!
Tarzan swinging (rope to rope) over ice cold water!

7 Aubrey February 22, 2012 at 4:26 pm

I think a pretty amazing obstacle would involve SKYDIVING!! It could be at the very start, to get your adrenaline started- or it could be the reward… The first few to cross the finish line get to take the plane up for a skydive! That would really push people.

8 Lindsay @ Running the Windy City February 22, 2012 at 4:41 pm

I wish I lived in Florida so I could enter this giveaway!!

If you’re in IL, you should check out Tough Mudder! It is a 10-12 mile course with 26 obstacles. http://www.toughmudder.com

I’m in Tallahassee (Go Noles! Does that get me an extra entry???) and I would drive for this! I love Savage Race and so want to do it! Please Please Please. Okay so for a good obstacle… hmm probably would be 50 foot monkey bars over a lake filled with mud and hippos. Why hippos? because they are the number one human killer or something crazy like that and would definitely keep me up on those monkey bars no matter how much my triceps were burning!!

11 Tori @ In Love and Peanut Butter February 22, 2012 at 4:48 pm

That race sounds like so much fun! I did Warrior Dash last year and have been dying to do another muddy race ever since.

I think you should run and swim your way through all of the obstacles you listed with your bike wheel in tow, grab your bike and mountian bike the extra mile they added on .

Now that would be a fierce, muddy triathlon πŸ™‚

Eeek! I would love to do this! Im so happy there’s cool stuff like this around Orlando!
Does anyone remember that show on Nickelodeon called GUTS? It would be so cool if the last obstacle was like the aggro crag ( a “mountain with falling rocks and snow haha)
I wanted to do that so bad when I was little ! It would be freaking awesome to do that as an adult! πŸ™‚

13 Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance February 22, 2012 at 6:05 pm

Oh this sounds AMAZING. I’m gonna have to say dousing yourself in gasoline then running through a fire pit.

Butttt that sounds VERY illegal..
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance recently posted..The Diva Cup

14 Jenni February 22, 2012 at 6:31 pm

It would be super impossible, but for the grand finale, this would be the best: racing to a plane, then skydiving to the finish line.

Best Race Ever!

15 Anna, Fitscally Responsible February 22, 2012 at 7:29 pm

This sounds like a lot of fun! A good one would be jump roping for 100 feet or something that takes you out of running for a short distance. I am doing Tough Mudder in May, which is a 10-12 mile / 26 obstacle course event that looks pretty similar.

A few years ago, I went to Maine to see the North America Wife Carrying Competition – I thought that would be a fun/interesting race!

I have wanted to do a mud run for a while now. I have been a stay at home mom for nine years and I want to have an adventure.
My obstacle would be to ski over a mud put filled with piranhas from the back of an air boat.

18 Korey February 22, 2012 at 7:44 pm

Savage Race and Adventure Races are AMAZING!!!!

Anything from American Gladiator would be a killer obstacle. Maybe have a jousting competition that you have to win in order to advance.

Korey

19 Sylvia February 22, 2012 at 7:46 pm

I would add an obstacle that uses trampolines.

20 Jacqueline Louimaire February 22, 2012 at 7:48 pm

I have two ideas actually… A zip line that shoots you down at 20+ miles an hour and as you go down you are going through car wash type sponges soaked in mud only to land in a hung puddle of mud… Then my second one which is not as fun is a huge mud covered slip in slide on a hill and at the bottom is a huge puddle of mud, and we can add some alligators in there if you want to keep it interesting, not sure if anyone would actually go through with that one if there were alligators so maybe we could try some angry mutated fish that would be interesting!! (so hope i get these tickets I want to run this race so bad!!)

21 Susan February 22, 2012 at 7:48 pm

I want to do this race so bad! I signed up for 2 others like it and can’t afford this one πŸ™ Free entry sounds awesome…hmm…here is my obstacle:

Climb up a 25 ft ladder up to a flying trapeze rig which has a body of water underneath it. Fly on the trapeze and do your best trick to land in the water (double layout?) then swim 50 yards.

22 Chelsea A February 22, 2012 at 8:18 pm

I would like to climb a rock candy mountain, rope swing across a tiger pit & slide down an almond butter slide with banana shoes.

23 Ethan February 22, 2012 at 8:29 pm

My friend/training partner and I have been wanting to do one of these races for sooo long. But we are both poor college kids and cant afford it. It would be amazing to win this.

My insane obstacle would be: A 30ft dive into a pool where u have to battle and defeat a shark in his home environment before u can advance lol.

24 Brenda February 22, 2012 at 8:34 pm

Having done my first mud/obstacle course ever with a great team in the warrior Dash, the tight rope would have been absolutely exilerating over a fire pit. The muddy water below just wasn’t “scary” enough!

25 Michael February 22, 2012 at 8:38 pm

Not made up, but one thing I would like to see in this type of race would be a “fire walk”. You know, like hot coals. Its realistic, somewhat safe, and people would be talking about it for the rest of their lives!

26 Linda February 22, 2012 at 8:39 pm

I think some kind of gross eating obstacle would add something special and not running related to this race! ha ha

27 Nicole Smith February 22, 2012 at 8:39 pm

I’m already entered in the race but I want to win to give the free entries to two friends who can’t afford it right now. I think a perfect crazy obstacle to add would be the salmon ladder from Ninja Warrior. Or, maybe the warped wall – or how about the barrel roll! Ok, let’s dream really big here and add the whole NW course! πŸ™‚

28 Marty February 22, 2012 at 8:39 pm

How about completing the muddy obstacle course in full, all-out snow gear. It would make it impossibly heavy and difficult to complete the obstacles!

Since I’m local…I think it would be awesome to trampoline jump over a fire pit. I heart trampolines!

31 joel February 22, 2012 at 9:17 pm

I’ve never done a race like this and i want to SO BAD! but i can’t afford it :((

my insane obstacle would go a lil something like this:
your given a GRAPPLING HOOK that you use to grapple onto the top of a HUGE TOWER that you have to scale it with. then at the top ur given a SKIMBOARD that you have to ride down a CRAZY WATERSLIDE with a insane JUMP at the bottom! you jump the skimboard threw a RING OF FIRE and land in the deep end of a MUD PIT (for safety of course). the finish line is in sight, but standing in between you and it is a FEROCIOUS BEAR that you have to WRESLTE to get passed to finish the race! EPIC.

32 Patrice Chen February 22, 2012 at 9:39 pm

I’m actually from Canada but will be in town visiting my folks who own a place in Florida. So I hope you will consider me as a contestant. Here is my obstacle that I would like, I think it would be neat to have a course like Donkey Kong and have someone roll barrels down a hill at you while you try to get up.

33 Bryan Garciga February 22, 2012 at 9:47 pm

How about releasing 100 rattlesnakes within a confined area of the course….I imagine nobody would be walking through that obstacle!

34 Aaron Webb February 22, 2012 at 9:49 pm

Win or lose this is a great way to spread the word about a your awesome blog and Savage Race. Thanks adding spice to my otherwise unsavage of a day. Hope to see you in the Mudd.

35 Shannon February 22, 2012 at 9:54 pm

I would love a monkey bar obstacle…i used to looove the monkey bars as a kid!

I will be in town that week over spring break hope I win!!

37 Adam February 22, 2012 at 10:32 pm

The end of mud races are not only meant to be exhilarating for the runner but also for the spectators. I’d vote for the final obstacle to involve several long balance beams with mounted pivoting fire hoses for the spectators to utilize in trying to knock contestants off & into a mud pit.

38 Tana Meredith February 22, 2012 at 11:17 pm

I would do a walk over smoldering coals! Then a leap of faith over the pit from 300!

39 Kimberly m Gaines February 22, 2012 at 11:47 pm

You have to jump rope across a high wire While singing “my little buttercup” from the Three Amigos meanwhile umpa lumpas throw pudding balloons at you.

40 Rose B February 23, 2012 at 12:37 am

If I could add an obsticle it would probably be something like:

Spinning on a merry-go-round for 30 seconds then walk a balance beam over a fire pit (or snake pit…I’m still a little undecided, lol!!) while avoiding swinging tires…that may or may not be electrically charged…hey, you said to keep it interesting…lol….
I went to see my brother at last years Savage Race and wished I could have been a part of it…I WOULD LOVE to win so I can be a part of it this year…I think my obstacle idea is pretty interesting :))

41 Meghann February 27, 2012 at 11:37 am

I’m local to Orlando and if I could add an obstacle it would be a rope climb, then switch to another rope that is a rope wing, landing into water.

Oh my gosh…I would love to compete in the savage race! I really thought about doing this race as a birthday present for myself! Haha
For a crazy obstacle course I would probably go with greased up monkey bars over a bed of freezing cold ice water! Not the craziest but it would be pretty difficult!

45 Alaina February 23, 2012 at 11:55 am

I’m in Tallahassee (Go Noles! Does that get me an extra entry???) and I would drive for this! I love Savage Race and so want to do it! Please Please Please. 46 Victoria @ Running Peanut February 23, 2012 at 1:47 pm

I’d vote for a zipline over the fire pit, or a water slide into the mud pit. That would be a lot of fun at the end!

48 Megan February 23, 2012 at 8:26 pm

Well… My name is Megan, and I would absolutely LOVE, LOVE the opportunity to run this challenging, crazy, and extraordinarily daring obstacle course– Savage Race. I live in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a relatively short drive to Orlando, so I would consider that local :). The insane challenge/obstacle that I would like to see in the Savage Race would be:
1.) Picture this–> The beads of sweat are dripping down your face, your hair is caked with dark, fast drying mud… but your still running, running so hard and fast to where… the promised finish line, it’s only one mile away, if you squint you can almost see an outline of FINISH on a tall pole………… but wait, what is that, could it be, REALLY, the last obstacle… An enormous, free standing, makeshift diving platform stands between you and the glorious finish-line… You quickly make your ascent up eight flights of stairs to a single diving plank, what are you to do… close your eyes, count to (no time), you jump… into… you guessed it a pit filled with quicksand (trust me it would kill you, if your strong enough)… now every bone, tendon, muscle, and nerve ending is tingling… you must fight to escape…. after what seems like hours, you make it out… now you sprint to the finish line!!!! Yes, yes, YES you did it!!! I thought this just seemed like a good idea (But, don’t forget to sign the liability waiver’s).
I hope I win!!!! Thank you for this opportunity!!!
Megan

49 Katy February 23, 2012 at 10:58 pm

The craziest obstacle would be pretty much anything from American Gladiators-a jousting competition would be great! =o)

50 Allyse Francis February 24, 2012 at 12:02 am

Okay.
So you have to cross a beam over a raging icey river with spinning razor sharp saw blades at the bottom and mutated, starving piranhas at the bottom (for maximum concentration).

Meanwhile you have to dodge concrete, spiked, wrecking balls that are swinging side to side.
You have a wailing baby in your arms that you have to get to the anxious mother on the other side.

Oh yeah, and the beam is on fire.

51 oscar rosano February 24, 2012 at 10:05 am

That’s amazing,I think this races bring the best out of us but besides that its a great experience to meet new people and have a good time! This food looks good and I would eat it everyday!!

52 Katy (The Singing Runner) February 25, 2012 at 3:49 pm

My obstacle would be jumping (backwards) across floating logs with sharks and alligators in the water while juggling tennis balls that are on fire.

Sounds simple right? πŸ˜‰
