The Loner

by Meghann on January 22, 2012

Happy Sunday everyone!

After an adventure filled Saturday, we took it easy around here this morning with extra sleep (yay for rest days!) and a big ole meal of comfort foods for breakfast.

Chicken breakfast sausages and eggs (cue love and praise for my griddle)

Strawberries and cherries

Toast with pumpkin butter.

Maddie played the you-left-me-home-all-day-by-myself-and-owe-me-big-time guilt card and talked us into taking her into the dog park.

IMG_6048.JPG

Ok, that’s a lie. It was more like I felt bad for leaving Maddie home all day and talked Derek into taking her to the dog park.

IMG_6050.JPG

I always have this vivid picture in my mind of Maddie running circles around the dog park and making lots of doggie friends. It’s a great pictures, but that’s not usually what happens.

IMG_6049.JPG

The truth is, Maddie is a bit of a loner at the dog park. Unless she’s with her cousins or her Uncle Scooby, she’s perfectly fine sitting at our side or sniffing the field on her own. I think she prefers the big loop we walk around the park on our way out. She loves to walk when there’s purpose and she’s on a leash. Weird dog.

I reheated some of Friday night’s leftover pasta with an extra dose of veggies for lunch.

Now that we’ve rest – it’s time for errands!

Woo hoo.

Sarcasm.

:-p

I wish we had a dog park around here! I always want to take my puppy to a dog park when she has been home all day, but there just isn’t anywhere! One day we are going to move somewhere that is MUCH more dog friendly!

I’m not a dog owner (yet!) but I’ve always wondered… At dog parks, is there dog poop everywhere you have to look out for? Or are people good at cleaning up?

Thanks!

5 Meghann January 22, 2012 at 2:43 pm

If it’s a good dog park then owners are good at picking up the dog poop. The dog park I go to has a stand filled with bags that people take to pick up their dog’s poop with.

My dog is a loner, too. He prefers people to other dogs. He walks around the dog park licking people’s hands, hoping that someone will pet him. I blame myself; I don’t socialize him enough.*

My pups HATE the dog park. They don’t like to play with other dogs, and only want to go run in the woods. They actually just hover around me or by the gate if we try to take them.

Our dogs are weird too- When we take them for a walk they act like they have places to go & people to see! They walk so fast. When we let them in the backyard to run around, they just stand there like, “Uhhhh, and i’m supposed to do WHAT out here?” — We haven’t tried taking them to a dog park. There are no local parks, and I’m afraid Diva would just bark the entire time, and I don’t even know what Wyatt would do. They are social when we take them over to my brother-in-laws house, but i just don’t know about dogs they don’t know.

My dog used to be really social and now not so much. She gets annoyed when the other pups want to play with her. I think she might have a diva complex. πŸ™‚

We have a big loop in our neighborhood where we walk our dog. He is a rescue and was never socialized around other dogs. He gets so overexcited around the other dogs that they don’t know quite what to make of him!

it’s because she’s a jack russell! my jack HATES dog parks. really i think it’s because she think’s she’s a human- last night i woke up more than once to her laying in bed, her body under the covers and her head nestled on my pillow.

Our dogs are the same way. They just stand there looking at us or lay at our feet. And last time we went someone had their aggressive dog that keep trying to attack everyone dogs including my dog. And then the owner got mad at me for telling them they needed to control the dog.

Our puppy is almost four months old, but we were told he is too young to be around dogs we don’t know because of possible illness. I can’t wait until he is old enough to go to the dog park! He is scared of everything though so I am not sure how he will feel!

that’s my dog too! when he’s in our yard or some grassy patch that’s not a dog park, he goes crazy! but at the dog park all he does is sniff the ground and hang out by our feet. sometimes he tries to follow the other dogs, and looks like the little pip-squeak trying to follow the big kids…following but hanging in the back. poor little 4-pounder. lol.

26 Life's a Bowl January 23, 2012 at 12:46 pm

Charlie [our new pup] has no idea what to do with himself when he sees other dogs so he just jumps in their face πŸ˜› Thankfully, most of the dogs are older females so we think their motherly instincts kick in and just let him do his thing…
