First Run of 2012

by Meghann on January 2, 2012

Good Morning!

Catching up from the holiday weekend?

This morning I headed out for my first run of 2012. I’m taking it easy before Ragnar, so there were no time goals – just a casual 5 miler around the neighborhood. The air was thick with fog and humidity, but the temps were cool and the roads were quiet, a great way to kick off running in the New Year. 🙂

I want to create a fun goal on DailyMile like run XXXX amount of miles in 2012, but I’m not sure what a good goal would be? Thoughts?

I was craving hot oats for breakfast.

In the mix:

  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup water
  • chia seeds
  • raisins
  • pinch of salt
  • cinnamon

On top:

  • defrosted strawberries
  • honey peanut butter
  • pumpkin spice granola

Just what the belly wanted. 🙂

Monday = Catch Up Day

The holidays are officially over (sort of – I know a lot of offices considered today a holiday since New Years fells on a Sunday). Boooo……

What’s the next big event/ holiday you’re looking forward to?

Happy 2012 Meghann! My net holiday that I’m looking forward to is my friend’s wedding in Australia in April. Warm weather, here I come! (It’s snowy and cold here right now, so April can’t come fast enough!)

Valentine’s Day! (I know, I’m corny)

I set a number goal this year… 2012miles. My B goal is 1800. I find it helps keep me motivated with races thrown in during the year. My 2011 goal was 1800 and I missed it by about 95mi thanks to a pesky little injury in September

I’m looking forward to getting to Charleston (driving there today from NC) and then going to Colorado with my mom!

I currently have runners knee so no running just yet in this new year 🙁 but I am determined to get back on my feet in the next two weeks or so. For now I am thoroughly enjoying my day off. Knee up, ice, advil…running here I come!

I know there is a feature on DailyMile where you can look at the number of miles logged for running in the last year. Click on the “Training” tab, and then click “Months” in the left corner of the screen. You should look at how many you ran last year to develop your goal!

Thanks! I figured it out! Good thing I’ve been tracking it, I just wish I had joined DailyMile before August!

10 Ada January 2, 2012 at 11:35 am

omg you’re doing Ragnar? I did the NY one in May and it was amazzzzinggg! You definitely form a very special bond with your teammates after spending over 24 hours in a van with them;) Let me know if you want any advice on what gear to bring or whatever!

My office doesn’t recognize another holiday until memorial day! So before then I am looking forward to Valentine’s Day, my first being married! Also, the super bowl is considered a holiday at my house so I can’t wait for that too!

My goal is to run 1000 miles in 2012. I’m going to be running 480-500 in the next 20 weeks training for a half marathon, which means I’ll be almost halfway there a third of the way through the year – how crazy is that?

Is 2012 miles (just about 40 miles a week) too ambitious?

Is Derek back at work?! Good/Sad to have the house to yourself?

I think I should start logging into Daily Mile. Have you enjoyed using it or is it another annoying thing you have to do everyday? Anyone else have an opinion?

22 Meghann January 3, 2012 at 10:38 am

He went back today. I LOVED spending the week with him, but I definitely couldn’t get any work done with him at home – all i wanted to do was hang out with him! Also, I love DailyMile, I thought it would be annoying, but it’s actually fun to log my workouts and it’s the first thing I do when I finish one. I even have it set up so I can easily do it on my phone.

23 Heather @ Better With Veggies January 2, 2012 at 2:35 pm

The first yearly running goal I had was 1200 miles – averaging out to 100 miles a month (or 25 miles a week). Might be a good place to start. 🙂

The pigs are going to fly on Sunday, May 6th at the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon. I’m looking forward to achieving my fitness goal and resolution on this day if all goes as planned assuming I don’t get injured. I have run the half several times at this race but it is time to tackle the full 26.2. I know you mentioned in an earlier post that you were thinking about this race- any decisions yet? We can compare training notes and blog about it- training in the ice and snow where I live vs. training in the sun & heat where you live. That would be fun !

25 Glenneth January 2, 2012 at 2:57 pm

Next big event for me is my birthday on the 10th. Just a little over a week away.

Holy cow those strawberries look awesome. I have no tips on mileage goals, but I am looking forward to watching you reach yours.

28 Army Amy* January 2, 2012 at 5:28 pm

Well 1,200 miles would be 100 miles a month and 25 miles a week. I bet you already run that much, so I’d aim for more than that!*
