Return of Long Sleeves

by Meghann on December 1, 2011

I know it’s a little late in the season, but I finally had a chance to break out a long sleeve running shirt this morning and I secretly did a little dance in its honor. πŸ™‚

The weather was perfect this morning. PERFECT. It was chilly – but not freezing – and my legs were happy to soak it all in. They’ll take this weather over hot and humid any day of the week.

I had 6 miles on the schedule with 4 miles of intervals. I started with a 1 mile warm-up, then alternated between 2:00 minutes of intervals (or running as fast as I could sustain for that time) and 2:00 minutes of easy. I finished my run with a 1 mile cool down.

Overall I was happy with my pace. I kept my intervals at a sub-8:00 and my easy around 9:30. I finished in 52:58 with an overall pace of 8:49. Not amazing stats by any means, but we all have to start somewhere. πŸ™‚

There’s nothing better than a hot shower after a cold run, but stepping out of the shower into a cold room is a whole other story. I needed something hot and comforting to warm me back up.

Enter oatmeal:

In the mix:

  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • raisins
  • Whole Foods Chocolate Whey Protein Powder
  • pumpkin
  • pumpkin spice

On top:

  • apple
  • pumpkin spice granola
  • peanut butter

Paired with a cup of hot tea. Just what I needed. πŸ™‚

I was Facebook messaging with an old friend from elementary school this morning and we were discussing how long we’ve actually known each other. I swear her and my twin brother were in the same kindergarden class (Mr. Q…), but she claimed ‘old age was setting in’ and couldn’t remember who her teacher was that year. Pshh… old age? We’re the same age. No old age here! πŸ˜‰

Anyways, that’s when I thought it would be fun to see how many of our elementary teachers we could remember. Turns out she wasn’t kidding about that old age setting in. It was like pulling teeth dragging these out of my memory banks. It’s so strange that so many of that teachers who had such a huge impact for a year of our life have sort of faded to the background of lifelong memories. I wonder where they all are now?

  • K – Mrs. Perry
  • 1st – Mrs. Murray (?)
  • 2nd – Mrs. Knot
  • 3rd – Mrs. Barden
  • 4th – Mr. Thorn
  • 5th – Mrs. Holcomb
  • 6th – Mrs. M(?) <- she didn’t like me anyways

I’m not 100% sure on all the spelling of the names, but 6 out of 7 isn’t bad. 6th grade was a bad year for me, so it makes sense that I’ve pushed that teacher’s name out of my memory. I have my old yearbooks buried in a memory chest in the closet of my childhood room, I should go through it the next time I’m home and look that one up.

It’s a fun game – you should try it! Try listing all of your elementary teachers and see how many you get!

The real fun is remembering all of your middle school and high school teachers. I guarantee I would fail on that one.

I swear I did the same exact workout (in Tampa πŸ™‚ ) this morning. However, I have always ran my intervals on the treadmill…

Do you do all your intervals on bayshore? Just wondering!

I find it annoying to have to run to get to bayshore before I have a good area to do intervals…I guess I’m spoiled by having bayshore at all!

3 Meghann December 1, 2011 at 4:42 pm

Nope! Bayshore is a bit far from me, but I wish I could run there everyday!

I feel terrible now b/c I can’t remember my first grade teacher! Oh well. I definitely remember 4th/5th grade. I had the same teacher both years, he took the whole class up to 5th grade, and he was awesome! I even remember the nickname he had for me, the Megster. I would go hang out with him now if I knew where he was these days!

I’m loving this cooler weather we are having in FL right now!

I can remember my K-5 teachers, but after that it get tricky – In Lake county we started middle school in 6th grade, and we had 6 classes/day. I can remember 3 of the 6. Then it’s kind of blurry & I forget who I had what year & for which class. In HS i had the same teachers several times so that’s even more confusing.

kennedy, ellis, mc-something?, crissup. i skipped 2nd grade, so that should make remembering them easier, but 4th grade is iffy because my teacher left in the middle of the semester (her husband was in the military and they were being relocated or something). anyways, 6th grade wasnt a good year for me either; in retrospect i was kind of a nerd, bahaha. but i had like a zillion teachers, since we did 1-5, 6-8, and 9-12th grades at elementary, middle, and high school, respectively.
