Black Friday in 3D

by Meghann on November 25, 2011

Coming soon to a mall near you…BLACK FRIDAY in 3D

With deals so good, you’ll shriek before you cry.

My sister, future sister-in-law, and I weren’t quite crazy enough to brave the 10pm/12am Black Friday crowds this morning (last night?), but we were able to score some pretty good deals with our 6:00am wake-up calls.

Kelly and I were up and on our way to Orlando before the sun rose this morning with just a slight detour to Panera before hitting the mall.

I ordered the ‘power sandwich’ which was egg, ham, and cheese on multigrain bread.

I was a little surprised with how small it was (this was a full order, not a half), but it ended up being just the right amount of food.

I brought the apple from home, but ended up saving it for a mid-morning snack.

We went to the mall expecting crazy crowds, but it seemed like we just missed them. My guess is all the real Black-Friday-deal-seeking fanatics started shopping late last night and were done by the time we strolled in around 7:00am. Fine by us. We were still able to get everything we needed without dealing with the crazy crowds or sacrificing sleep. 🙂

Our main mission was finding Kelly some cute clothes to fill the voids in her incomplete teacher wardrobe. We ended up finding some great deals at The Loft (50% off storewide), American Eagle (40% storewide before noon), and New York and Company (60% off storewide before noon). Score!

Unfortunately the deals at Target were a bust (boo 🙁 ), but we were both able to score a few Christmas presents for certain family members at Best Buy. I’ve developed a slight addiction to Etsy recently and have already stocked up on a few presents from there. I’m just bummed I have to wait until Christmas to hand out the gifts, I think waiting to give someone a gift is worst than waiting to open them!

The early wake-up call, plus hours of shopping cardio, left Kelly and I ready for lunch around 11:00. We quickly consulted my Yelp app for lunch recommendations (I <3 Yelp!) and settled on Maraya at Sabrina, a highly rated middle eastern restaurant just around the corner from the mall.

At first we were afraid they weren’t open because we were the only car in the parking lot, but the blinking ‘Open’ sign encouraged us to try the door anyways. We were greeted by two of the sweetest restaurant owners I’ve ever met, who instantly sat us and began asking about our day and shopping hits and misses.

They encouraged us to try everything on the menu (because it was all good, of course), but we settled on a medley of appetizers to share.

First up was the babaganoush, which the owner paired with a sample of hummus that we “just had to try.”

I was obsessed with the babaganoush, while my sister was equally as obsessed with the hummus. Both were made fresh in house and contained just the right evoo and spice. Both bowls were also licked clean. 😉

Next, we split the fresh greek salad with some of the best feta I’ve ever had.

And we finished lunch with homemade falafels.

The owner had apologized for the delay in the falafels. Since they make everything fresh in-house, they take a minute to come together.

Dear Courteous Owner… When the food is good, served hot, and has the perfect crunchy exterior; there is no need to apologize. The falafels were amazing. 😉

We figured our wallets had enough around 3:00 and headed home for leftover pecan pie. It had been on both of our minds all day!

The rest of the evening revolved around wedding planning.

My sister has some great ideas.

My favorite being the cake topper.

I’m thinking a monkey and ape themed bridal shower. Thoughts? 😉

Dinner oddly resembled one of my usual ‘Meghann meals,’ but I swear it was 100% my Dad’s idea. I knew I inherited my unusual food habits from somewhere. 🙂

This was his take on hash browns and eggs. Well, hash browns heavily loaded with veggies. 🙂

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some more Pinterest-ing business to get to with my sister and future sister-in-law. 🙂

Good Night!
