Fish Fry

by Meghann on October 2, 2011

I feel better.

LOADS better than this morning.

Indulging in my free Starbucks drink helped.

IMG_4017.JPG

Grande Mocha Light Frappuccino with extra coffee.

IMG_4020.jpg

The guy behind me ordered a Pumpkin Frappuccino. I didn’t know there was such a thing! If she hadn’t already started making my drink I would have done a redo. Next time, though. There’s always a next time. πŸ˜‰

I had a bowl of left over 15 bean soup for lunch.

IMG_4367.JPG

I ate my bean soup for lunch while Derek ate his soup for breakfast. Funny how noon can go for either on the weekend. πŸ˜‰

IMG_4369.JPG

I was pretty boring today. Lots of napping on the couch and shopping for cruise supplies (only 6 more days!). There was some football thrown in there too, but that coincided with napping on the couch. πŸ˜‰

I snacked on some fruit salad and Quaker Oatmeal Squares (BOGO at Publix this week!) before heading off the Whole Foods to finally use my Living Social deal.

IMG_4021.JPG

I told Derek we should treat the Whole Food Living Social Deal ($10 for $20 worth of groceries) like any other deal and buy something fun with it. We decided to buy the ingredients for an elaborate dinner and – after 30 minutes of me pacing between the meat and seafood counter with no clue what I wanted to make – we came home with fresh fish and shrimp for a fish fry.

IMG_4383.JPG

My Dad used to do these elaborate fries when I was a kid. He would heat up some oil and fry everything from fish to green tomatoes to asparagus and call it dinner. I wanted to recreate that with Derek.

IMG_4391.JPG

I made an egg wash of egg and milk, and a breading mix of bread crumbs, corn meal, whole wheat flour, and Old Bay Seasoning. The fish and shrimp took a dip in the egg, then the breading, and finally to the hot oil.

IMG_4401.JPG

IMG_4421.JPG

Derek helped with turning the shrimp and fish in the hot oil until they were a light golden brown and perfectly done.

IMG_4428.JPG

It was a long process that resulted in an amazing dinner that both Derek and I had a hands-on experience creating.

IMG_4450.JPG

Along with the fish and shrimp, we also picked up our own beers at Whole Foods. I went with the Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale that was very smooth and had a nice spice to it.

IMG_4448.JPG

Dark chocolate for dessert.

I. Am. Stuffed. πŸ™‚

Time to relax and watch a little more football before bed.

Good Night!

I’ve never tried pumpkin spice in a blended drink — bet it’s good though! I was at a coffee shop this weekend that had a peanut butter flavor shot. Sadly they were out because I’ve never seen that before…

Your fish fry looks great; you guys got everything so flaky looking instead of oily!

P.S. Think about this frapp order I’ve already got on my to-do list: Pumpkin White Chocolate Mocha! πŸ˜€

Question: Those Starbucks cards, are they like credit cards or like a punch card type thing? I’ve seen the little flier at the stores, but was never really sure what exactly they do.

It’s a gift card that you register. You add money to the gift card and use the gift card every time you make purchases. When you use the card it keeps track of your points and deducts the free add-ons and stuff. I hope that helps!

Very much so, thanks!

Ohmygosh! I don’t know why I’ve never thought of having a fish fry! That looks deelish. My husband doesn’t eat fish, but I’m going to plan to make this with a friend soon.
We used our living social deal to get something special too, most of it went to get a couple pounds of bourbon steak tips, it is our contribution to a fun dinner we are having with friends tonight. It’s still less than a restaurant!
