Do These Shoes Make Me Look Fast?

by Meghann on September 28, 2011

My morning running buddy. πŸ™‚

Doesn’t she look excited to run?!

Maddie and I took off for a nice and easy 4 mile recovery run this morning. It was slow, but at least it wasn’t painful. Each mile was better than the last and we ended up with negative splits across the board. I was happy with it. πŸ™‚

New day. New run. New training. New shoes.

The other week I received an email from advertising Brooks Glycerin 8 for 50% off. I was on my 4th pair of Brooks Glycerins and couldn’t get my credit card out fast enough to order a pair. When you find your favorite running shoes on sale – you stock up! I scored a pair for $65! Bargain!

They arrived just in time too. I knew on Sunday that it was time to retire my previous pair of Glycerins. They lived a good life, but – with over 300 miles on them – I knew it was time to move on. RIP shoes! πŸ™‚

What are your favorite running shoes?

I find that running shoes vary from person to person and feet to feet. My sister loves Asics, but I find the support isn’t there. I love Brooks, but the shoe is too narrow for her. That’s why it’s hard to rely on other people’s suggestions and instead go to a running store and try on a few pairs until you find the one that works for you. πŸ™‚

Why, hello, Libby’s. Long time no see!

Cans of pumpkin are back at Publix! I picked up a few this weekend and opened up my first of the season for breakfast. πŸ™‚

Pumpkin yogurt love πŸ™‚

  • 1/2 cup Cinnamon Cheerios
  • 1/2 cup Erewhon Cocoa Crispies
  • 1/2 Apple
  • Chopped Dates
  • Plain Yogurt
  • Pumpkin
  • LOTS of cinnamon πŸ™‚

Just as great as I remembered.

Now, I need to dig all of my recipes for pumpkin bread, pumpkin muffins, and pumpkin dinners out of my archives. πŸ˜‰

I’m a loyal Asics fan like your sister. I overpronate a bit, so I find that their shoes with support for overpronators are perfect. I think you are very deserving of a new pair of shoes after your 70.3!! πŸ™‚

I love Brooks Ghost 3s, but my newest pair are definitely not the same as my last. I think it’s time to find a new favorite πŸ™

Woohoo pumpkin season!

3 Gina @ Running to the Kitchen September 28, 2011 at 9:20 am

I’m an Asics lover. I find Brooks too narrow too. To each their own πŸ™‚ But there is nothing like a fresh new pair of shoes to get you excited about a run!

Nice! I run in Brooks Ghost currently (though I used to be an Asics GT-2100 loyalist and would literally scour the internet to find sites that still sold them) but maybe I’ll give the Glycerins a try! I’m due for a new pair myself…

I cannot wait to start baking with pumpkin. Although, I can’t seem to find any canned pumpkin near me. You are lucky!

7 Khushboo September 28, 2011 at 9:30 am

I swear by Asics for comfort, support, and price. I’ve bought the same pair 3 years in a row- I’m to happy with them to bother trying on other brands!

I’ve been pretty loyal to asics, but I’m beginning to think my pair doesn’t offer enough support for me. I’d really love to go to one of those running stores where they evaluate your stride and pair you with shoes, but I’m apprehensive that ill get matched with a pair that’s way out of my budget but feel guilted into buying them after the consultation.

Love the new kicks! Nothing is better than new running shoes! I swear by Nike Volmeros….they are like running on pillows! But I toe strike really, really bad so have to agree ‘to each their own’ when it comes to running shoes!!

19 Shanna, Like Banana September 28, 2011 at 10:22 am

I love that your little dog is your running buddy and I can’t get my German Shepherd mix to run more than a mile with me!

My fave shoes are usually Saucony

20 Carolyn September 28, 2011 at 10:22 am

Do you ever shop on they have those shoes for $64 and if you click on skinny runner’s discount on her page it’s 10% off. free shipping both way. Highly recommend them, their customer serivce is amazing too!

Happy Running!

21 Margo September 28, 2011 at 10:27 am

I love my Brooks! I run in the defyance, though my favorites were the axiom. Sadly they stopped making them. I should have stocked up!

I was so excited to see pumpkin back on the shelves this week. I practically cleared out the shelf! Looking forward to making all sorts of delicious pumpkin goodies.

23 Kristie September 28, 2011 at 10:49 am

The toe box in Nike shoes is what makes them the only shoe that really works for me – my toes need space and flexibility there and Asics & Brooks don’t have it! I admit, I haven’t tried Saucony though so maybe that would work too. My feet are picky so once I find one that works I stock up! Nike Structure Triax 14 are what work for me now. Even an update to the same shoe (13 vs. 14) can make them not right for me anymore though.

24 Nikki September 28, 2011 at 10:52 am

I tried Brooks but got shin splints. Now I am onto Mizunos…so far so good!!… Hopefully that doesn’t change once I start marathon training!! EEK!

I always question why shoe companies change the design too! They’re not ‘improving’ the shoe – they’re making a totally different one.

You lucky lady- score- I’m usually too late to the table to get the really good deals on my brooks adrenaline sneakers appear. They are always sold out of my size. boo hoo. I usually stock up by buying 6 or more pairs when road runner sports is having one of their great promo sales with my vip discount. Also- if I love the shoe, I hoard as many pairs that I can get my hands on cause you never know how the new update will perform. I am now loyal to Brooks but have had past long term relationships with Asics and Saucony. I hate when I have to cheat on my sneakers.

40 Amanda Lee September 28, 2011 at 1:12 pm

I used to be a die-hard asics fan but then I fell in love with the Saucony Progrid Ride. I have had 2 pairs of them and loved them. I saw that deal last week also and debated about buying the Glycerin. Unfortunately though I have never run in the 8th version so I wasn’t sure and I used to work at Fleet Feet where we told everyone NEVER to buy a pair of shoes without running in it first! I will have to give them a try next time I visit a running store!

Enjoy that new shoe feel!

41 Sarah @ The Dirt Road Dreamer September 28, 2011 at 1:21 pm

I’m with you all the way on the Brooks Glycerin! I bought my first pair back in 2004 @ Running Wild in Pensacola, FL, they were Big League Chew purple. Hidieous! I remember the owner of the store telling me that running stores were the only place that could sell ugly shoes to fashionable people πŸ™‚ If the shoe fits….

PS. I saw your post about the Brooks being on sale and took advantage of you finding a great deal πŸ™‚

My absolute favorite running shoes are Mizunos! I can never remember the exact model (I think Wave 14?) but with the other shoes I’ve tried, none have been so supportive and comfortable. LOVE THEM!

Now if only I could find a deal on them…;)

I’m not really brand loyal when it comes to running shoes – whatever fits my foot best – but I have been running in a pair each of Saucony & Nike (I rotate shoes) for the past two years. I actually would like to mix it up, but they keep working, so I keep buying.

I love the Mizuno Wave Rider 13. I tried the new redesigned 14’s earlier this year and wasn’t a fan. They came up too high on my ankles. I switched to Brooks Ghosts 4 & they’re just okay. A little too wide for my narrow feet. I hear the Mizuno 15’s coming out in November are supposed to be a lot like the 14’s. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I run in Glycerins too! I like the Ghost too for shorter distances or at the gym. I used to work at a running shoe store analyzing gaits and fitting people, so I love to geek out talking about running shoes. You’re right, every individual is different when it comes to shoes. One thing to take note of when buying sale shoes is that they aren’t too old. The cushioning in running shoes starts to break down after a year, even if they’re just sitting on a shelf.

I love the Glycerin 8s! I notice, though, I have to go a half size larger than my usual running shoe size when buying Glycerins.

Congrats on your HIM. And Maddie is a cute running partner!

51 Alexa @ The Girl In Chucks September 29, 2011 at 1:07 am

Haha.. I ordered the exact same shoes (same color) from the exact same offer! πŸ˜‰

My other pair of shoes are also Brooks, but they are stability shoes. When I got fitted at the running shop, they said I was a severe over pronator. Truth is though, I’m not sure that is true…the wear on my shoes doesn’t seem to match an over pronator. So I’m looking forward to trying out a middle of the road shoe….plus these new ones are so much lighter! I feel like I’m flyin’! πŸ˜‰

I was so bummed that I couldn’t get the Active deal, but you’re right – shoes are so personal, I couldn’t just buy them & HOPE that they’d fit, not give blisters, and provide the support I need! I wear a size 11, so shoes are really hit or miss for me!
