#MYCHOICE Giveaway

by Meghann on September 20, 2011

I’ve recently teamed up with FiberChoice Chewable Fiber Supplement for their Choices for a Better Health (#MYCHOICE ) twitter campaign. The campaign’s goal is to encourage followers to share the small, smart, daily choices they make to live healthier lives.

I love the message behind the campaign because it’s so true. It really is the small, daily choices a person makes that can make all the difference when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle.

This week’s theme is ‘Start a Healthy Habit.’ And what’s the old saying? It only takes three times repeating something to become a habit? Ok, maybe a little more than three times – but it’s a start.

Lately, the healthy habit I’ve been trying to start (or really re-start) is getting 8 hours of sleep. For the last week – around 10:00pm – I’vestarted shutting down my computer, brushing my teeth, and prepping for bed. 10:00pm is a hard stop – no exceptions – and sticking with it has turned into a habit for me.

More sleep = a healthier, happier (less grumpy) Meghann.

That’s just one habit of several that I try to start and stick with everyday. Cutting back on extra nibbles, drinking more water, and remembering to take my daily vitamins are others!

FiberChoice wants to celebrate everyone’s choices for better health with a little giveaway. FiberChoice is providing $50 VISA gift cards to FIVE randomly selected readers to help make their healthy lifestyle goals a reality – perfect for a few cooking classes or month-long gym membership!

To enter, just leave a comment below with a new healthy habit you’ve added to your routine recently. This could be anything from incorporating more fiber in your diet to stay regular, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or taking your dog for a daily walk!

You have until Thursday 9/22 to enter, when I will announce a winner at noon. The official rules can be found here. This giveaway is open to U.S. residents ONLY .

If you’re not a winner here – be sure to follow the Choices for a Better Health campaign on twitter at http://twitter.com/fiberchoice or #MYCHOICE for other chances to win in the coming weeks!

I have partnered with GlaxoSmithKline to help promote the FiberChoice “Choices for Better Health” campaign. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program, which includes writing about my choices for a healthier lifestyle, and hosting a giveaway where the prize has been provided by FiberChoice. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.

Hey Meghann!

Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

A healthier habit that I’ve incorporated to my life is taking at least half an hour to eat and get rid of all of the distractions (tv, computer, etc.) while enjoying my meal so that I can listen to my body better :).

5 Laura September 20, 2011 at 1:19 pm

My healthy habit is to eat many little meals throughout the day instead of three large ones!

6 Emily September 20, 2011 at 1:19 pm

My healthy habit that I am really trying to stick to is recording everything that I eat.

7 Natalie @ will jog for food September 20, 2011 at 1:20 pm

I actually have been adding fiber to my smoothies! Plus, I have been incorporating longer walks into my every day routine 🙂

9 kalli September 20, 2011 at 1:20 pm

Fabulous message and giveaway.

My healthy habit is increasing my protein. I know make sure I get upwards of 50g per day (lil baby needs more!). When I pack my lunch at night, I count up those grams and will add protein-dense snacks to hit my target.

one healthy habit that i’ve picked up recently is taking my dog for a walk every morning! we used to be afternoon walkers and dog-parkers only, but i added a morning walk to get myself going every morning and to wear out the dog a bit for a day of lounging while my husband and i are at work!

13 Jennifer September 20, 2011 at 1:22 pm

I have added two healthy habits…drinking more water and exercising in the morning (so that it actually gets done!)

14 Tristen September 20, 2011 at 1:23 pm

My healthy habit is making tiny tweaks throughout the day to get more nutritional value in my diet and always get some exercise! For example, if I want ice cream, I’ll have a smaller serving & then load it up with berries, or if I’m too tired to go on the treadmill, I’ll atleast lift weights or bike a few miles.

15 DeLana @ Southern Gal Uptown September 20, 2011 at 1:23 pm

I’ve been trying to get to bed early (10:00pm) also in prep for my early morning runs three times a week. This is also in conjunction with cooking a healthy meal to take to work for lunch those days I run in the mornings and all I want to do is eat all 8 hours of my workday!

16 Athena @ fitnessandfeta September 20, 2011 at 1:24 pm

My newest healthy habit is one I recently read about in Women’s Health. When going out to eat, I follow the one out of three rule. This means that I decide ahead of time whether to allow myself bread, alcohol, or dessert – but not all three. Moderation but not deprivation is the key to achieving a healthy lifestyle!

18 Tara September 20, 2011 at 1:24 pm

I have been drinking more water and making a real effort to make sure that I am drinking enough.

19 Meredith September 20, 2011 at 1:24 pm

I’ve started meal planning. It’s much easier to cook a balanced dinner after a long work day when I know in advance what I’m making and already have all the ingredients on hand!

20 Cheryl September 20, 2011 at 1:24 pm

My new healthy habit is incorporating running into my weekly routine. I wanted to make sure I had this in my head as a health thing as opposed to a weight loss thing so I would keep it up and so far I have!

22 Jillian @ sprinkle massacre September 20, 2011 at 1:25 pm

I’ve signed up for classes at the gym! I was never a class person, but these really get me out of bed in the morning instead of having extra unplanned rest days because of laziness!

23 Ryane September 20, 2011 at 1:25 pm

I pack my gym bag with a fresh outfit and bring it with me every morning I head out the door for work…. And ANY new magazine that comes in goes straight into the gym bag, so that’s my reward for getting to the gym!

Even though I (seemingly ) had a handle on healthy habits, I’ve had to reintroduce some things since I had my baby. Tracking my food. Making a training schedule. Strength training. I have started something new – writing trigger foods or poor choices in red in my journal. It’s a way for me to acknowledge but not get caught up in the bad stuff.

I’ve made a few tiny changes in my healthy lifestyle routine that have seemed to make the world of difference for me! Some of the main healthy lifestyle changes I have made in the past few months include:
-adding a tbsp of optimum’s “fitness fiber” to my bowel of oats in the am for an extra 6g fiber (no added sugar or fat)
-having a mug of decaf green tea after dinner and before bed to help with digestion
-eliminating articial sweeteners and going all natural (honey, jam) or using stevia packets (which i always carry around in my purse!)— this even includes sugarfree gum/protein bars/diet drinks–since i’ve stopped artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols my bloating has decreased tremendously.
–adding frozen spinach into my post workout shakes for an extra boost of greens in my diet!

257 Katie K September 20, 2011 at 4:35 pm

Lately I’ve been trying to drink more water – I tend to forget or choose Diet Coke when that afternoon slump hits. I’m also working on planning meals and recording them. My big new goal, though, is to get my butt back in the gym (you’re right, a $50 GC would be PERFECT for this!) After running my first half this summer, I’ve really let myself slump and am hoping group fitness classes will spark my return to regular work outs.

i have been making sure to hydrate throughout the day, especially at work…i am really busy/on my feet/working with patients all day, so it is definitely easy to forget to drink water but it is really important for me to continually hydrate so when i go for my runs (i am training for a marathon), i am not dehydrated…there is nothing worse than trying to cram a week’s worth of hydration in to a day before a long run!

263 Heather September 20, 2011 at 5:01 pm

My healthy habit is remembering to take my vitamins on a daily basis. To help with that I bought a small pill pack from GNC, and I load up a week’s worth of vitamins at a time and keep it in my purse. That way, I don’t have to lug the bottles with me or take them on an empty stomach before I leave for work (I get naseous if I do that).

I was diagnosed with Lyme disease in August of 2010 and have been battling it ever since. As part of my treatment a diet void of caffeine, alcohol, sugar, and all my individual food sensitivities was recommended. Since the more traditional treatments of antibiotics and supplements seem to have let me down time and time again throughout this process I’ve recently re-pledged to commit to my diet…one aspect that I feel a bit more “in control” of. Although my list of no-no’s is a mile long….no tomatoes, avocados, eggs, wheat, dairy, gluten, strawberries, soy…and everything in between…I’m taking it one step at a time and am working on shifting my focus on what I can eat- not what I cant.

266 Ashley September 20, 2011 at 5:09 pm

Taking more rest days and letting myself recover. It’s helped me have better workouts and see more results even though I’m spending less time at the gym.

My new healthy habit is packing a better quality lunch for my daughter. I’ve been super focused on my food, and exercise I sometimes forget how important it is to pass this along to my 5 year old. The first couple weeks of school it was pre-packaged snacks, and she picked them so of course sugary sweet. The past few weeks now I’ve really made it a habit of picking healthy snacks for her to pack for lunch. More fresh fruit, and veggies. Plus I’m opting for flavored waters instead of juice (she doesn’t know the difference… shhhh! lol)

I’ve been trying to make and drink vegetable juice regularly. So far it’s a challenge! Today I was successful but it wasn’t very tasty.

375 Leslie September 20, 2011 at 10:44 pm

Lately I’ve started running more in hopes of running a half-marathon in the near future. However, more importantly, I realized I often get very stressed and cannot relax. Thus, a huge focus right now is trying to take deeper breaths and relax. I think stress can be a huge contributor to fatigue and wore down.

My goal is to start decreasing my sugar intake a bit and drinking more water! 🙂

383 Jess September 20, 2011 at 11:17 pm

FINALLY started taking vitamins. After years of “gentle” prodding by my mother (cough cough) and watching my younger sister setting an example by diligently taking a handful of vitamins each night, it took a health scare to scare me straight. Now I take a multi, a calcium chew, and gummy vitamins every night… And have even gotten my boyfriend on the trend! Next up is drinking more water (if nothing else, to try to get my pee close to clear– cute sight, right? :)), and MORE SLEEP. lack of sleep is leading to a tired, cranky JCo, which is not helping at work_ or at home. Game on, healthy habits!

384 Tara September 20, 2011 at 11:18 pm

My new healthy habit is to make sure to have veggies in my lunch and supper every day!

391 Heather2Run September 20, 2011 at 11:50 pm

Last week started turning TV & computers off a half hour before bedtime, and leading my boys 3 & 7 in stretching exercises. Relaxing music in the background, they like “exercising” with mom and always show me their muscles after.
