Grilled Peanut Butter, Bacon, and Apple Sandwich

by Meghann on August 11, 2011

One of the many things The Bricks of Ybor is famous for is the Peanut Butter Bar section of their menu. It’s basically a ‘build-your-own’ peanut butter sandwich section complete with pickles, fluff, cream cheese, and anything else you could think of.

While Courtney and I were deciding what to order yesterday, we had fun building our own peanut butter sandwiches from the options in the menu. After a quick read through, I selected the hawaiian sweet bread, organic crunchy peanut butter, apples, and bacon for my imaginary sandwich, but Courtney made a face.

“Bacon? With Peanut Butter?”

“Yep! Why not? Sounds good to me!”

“Really?! I just can’t see that working together.”

“Oh, it will! I’ll make it for lunch tomorrow – you’ll see.”

Of course, I immediately took the combination to Facebook to make sure I wasn’t the only one that knew this combination would work.

*mental note* need to get that peanut butter and back cookie recipe from Rachel ASAP.

Looks like the majority agreed it’s a go! Sweet!

So, for lunch today I got our all my ingredients and got to work building my Peanut Butter, Bacon, and Apple Sandwich.

I’m not sure what Courtney was talking about – this sandwich rocked! I guess the old saying is right – bacon DOES make everything better. πŸ™‚

IMG_0933.JPG

It was really just a punch of saltiness to the sweet sandwich. I think ham probably would have worked well here too or cheese (but, I already know cheese is awesome with peanut butter and apple πŸ™‚ ).

I had the rest of apple slices on the side

As well as some pretzels with mustard.

Now, about the peanut butter and bacon cookie recipe…. πŸ˜‰

I was really excited to see what you would produce after you posted the bacon + PB question on Twitter, and you did not disappoint πŸ™‚ Did the apples heat up enough with Georgie?

3 Meghann August 11, 2011 at 2:51 pm

They still had a bit of a crisp to them, but the crisp was a nice addition to the soft bread and nut butter.

4 Jessica @ Healthy Dairyland August 11, 2011 at 2:47 pm

LOVE pb and bacon sandwiches! My mom always made them when I was a kid. In Milwaukee, at AJ Bombers, you can get a hamburger with pb and bacon on it. It’s amazing!

I don’t eat meat, but from what I remember of the taste of bacon, that combination doesn’t sound to bad. I wonder if it would be as good with veggie bacon.

14 Gina @ Running to the Kitchen August 11, 2011 at 3:56 pm

Since your a fellow FSU graduate you might know about the lipsmacker burger at monks. Bacon cheeseburger with peanut butter. And yes, it is delicious

19 Meghann August 11, 2011 at 5:27 pm

YES!!! Sadly Monks opened the year after I graduated, so I didn’t get to enjoy it as much as I should!

I am obsessed with anything peanut butter. Last time I was at The Bricks I did peanut butter, nutella, apples and cheese. Weird combo, but fantastic! And Smuckers natural peanut butter if my fave!!

22 Lindsey August 11, 2011 at 6:17 pm

That is my dream menu! haha I want to go to the PB&Co restaurant in New York, one day πŸ˜‰
Though I don’t like bacon I could see how good this could be, and it tempts me to try it!

There’s a place in the “food court” of the Detroit airport that does all sorts of combinations of nut butter sandwiches – fluff, bacon, peanut butter, cashew, etc, etc. It’s fun πŸ™‚ I like to stop there on my layovers so I can try something different.

What kind of mustard do you put on your pretzels? Plain yellow? Dijon?

29 Meghann August 11, 2011 at 9:08 pm

Dijon! it gives it a little spice. πŸ™‚
