More Yoga Please

by Meghann on July 28, 2011

I miss yoga.

Between training for the Augusta Half Ironman and my inability to fall in love with any studios on my side of town, it’s been hard to find the free time to do any yoga. My head has also been so wrapped up in so many other things, that I sort of forgot the wonder of yoga was there. Not good.

I need to change that.

Thursday nights are speed workout nights with the Tampa Tri Team, so my mornings are free. My new plan is to take advantage of those free mornings by incorporating a little yoga into my weekly routine. Nothing major, just the 20 minute sessions from to ease and stretch my muscles out.

I did the 20 minute ‘Yoga for Cyclists‘ session this morning and instantly remembered why I love yoga so much. The warriors, downward dogs, and front bends really stretched my back and gave my sore muscles the gentle massage they were thirsting after. I need to be doing this more often!

I’m going to try and incorporate more yoga on my rest days. My body is craving it and I need to listen to that. πŸ™‚

Breakfast came in the form of an easy bowl of cereal.

Starring a new bag of granola I discovered at Marshalls the other day. I love finding random fun gourmet foods there. πŸ™‚

In the bowl:

  • 1/2 cup Kashi Honey Sunshine
  • 1/2 cup Kashi Golden Goodness
  • 1/4 cup Chocolate Granola
  • Plain Yogurt
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever picked up from a TJ Maxx/ Marshalls/ Ross/etc? I wouldn’t call it strange, but the majority of my Vera Bradley stuff is from MArshalls πŸ™‚

1 Cait's Plate July 28, 2011 at 9:26 am

Hahaha – I LOVE the random food selection they have at TJ Maxx! It always cracks me up and I’ve definitely gotten some of the more gourmet candy they have there πŸ™‚ That’s too funny.

The granola is an awesome find!

Great plan to work more yoga in! I totally agree that when you can fit it in, it makes you feel soooooo good!

Like Cait said, I think the most random stuff they have is what’s lined up at the checkout aisle. I never would think to buy food from a place like that but I’ve been suckered into a few “gourmet” things a couple of times.

I’m going through the same thing. Between a new full-time job, teaching yoga, training for my 1st half marathon and in the middle of moving, my own yoga practice has fallen to the wayside πŸ™ I have 2 free mornings a week and am trying to sched in yoga like I’d sched any other non-negotiable thing I’d have to do. I hope u find a studio u like soon!

5 Jordan @ food, sweat, and beers July 28, 2011 at 9:49 am

Though I don’t spend too much time at Marshall’s, when I do go, I always end up with some random thing. Once I walked out with a Rachel Ray loaf pan and a bag of tye-dyed gummy bears.

Ahhh yoga… I teach dance, and when my schedule is really busy, I turn most of the warmup into a yoga session and I work out with my students! πŸ™‚

I got a giant magnifying glass with a faux-horn handle that looks like something straight out of Sherlock Holmes as a birthday gift for a friend. He adored it. πŸ™‚

I need to bring yoga back to my life too!

I was at Big Lots the other day (like Ross for home goods) and I wanted to get a metal chicken I saw there so I could put it around the house and say “Knock, knock motherfucker” and laugh about it. Surprisingly, my husband vetoed the idea.

I love the post title! πŸ˜€ I need more yoga too! This may seem like a silly question, but when you do yoga from your computer, do you keep your computer on a desk/table or do you put it down on the floor? I tried doing yoga once at home and didn’t like it because I couldn’t find a great place to put my laptop where I could see the screen and follow along easily.

22 Yolie @ Practising Wellness July 28, 2011 at 11:47 am

When I pratice from home I put my laptop on the floor at the very top of my mat…hope you find a way that works for you, because having a home practice makes yoga so accessible…which is awesome, lol! πŸ™‚ xyx

I totally agree about Marshall’s–they have some of the best gourmet foods there! Whenever I go there, I go to the foods/cooking aisles first! πŸ™‚

25 Diana July 28, 2011 at 11:10 am

I just did yoga yesterday morning! It does feel great and relaxing but it’s definately a workout cause I’m always sore the next day πŸ™‚ Course I’m doing a weightloss version. I once found a bottle of Champagne Vinegar at Ross and bought it for cooking not having a clue what to put it in! But I recently learned how to make a fabulous dressing from scratch using it from Barefoot Contessa’s Paris cookbook. It’s yum!

If you ever want to meet up to go to a yoga class, please let me know! I love love love love yoga. Most studios offer a first class for free! I’ve been meaning to try quite a few out around Tampa so I can find a studio I love. Also, downtown they have free yoga on Sunday morning:

27 Meghann July 28, 2011 at 11:38 am

I’ve been meaning to go to the yoga in the park, maybe I’ll go this Sunday! I’ve tried a few studios around town and really liked Yogani, but it’s a little bit of a drive from where I live. πŸ™‚

I will not call it strange but I had zero real exercising clothes. I have been working out in t-shirts and a strange collection of shorts. I just went to Marshalls and got some real running clothes!! Two longer shirts- I see wearing them for gym time or yoga and a pair of New Balance capris!! I love New Balance and could not pass them up when I saw them for $17!!
I love Vera Bradley too!! When I found them in high school everyone made fun of me for liking them but now it makes me smile to see more younger people with them!!

38 Joyce @ Jranola Joyce July 28, 2011 at 1:04 pm

TJ Maxx? hmmm ooo apple chips.
they are so good. if you ever see the Bare Fruit Apple Chips there–get them (ALL).

39 Jane @ Jane's Addictions July 28, 2011 at 1:32 pm

I got a stainless steel coffee canister from Marshall’s a couple of years ago. I love yoga. You got to get back to it girl! I do hot yoga 4 times a week and it burns tons of calories and get rids of toxins. I noticed it helps with running – the stretching is great but all the stability work helps improve my stride.
