The Sound of Music First Timer

by Meghann on July 26, 2011

From chicken to chickpeas…

IMG_0011.JPG

I tried my hand at Mama Pea’s Vegan Chickpeas and Dumplings for dinner tonight.

Only mine wasn’t as pretty as hers. πŸ˜‰

IMG_0018.JPG

And it saddens me to say that it was only ‘okay.’ Completely my fault – not enough salt and not enough time to cool.

Next time I would:

  • Allow the dish time to cool and thicken up (and perhaps more cornstarch?)
  • Double the biscuit recipe (because isn’t that the best part?!?!)
  • Add more salt

IMG_0021.JPG

Oh, and take better photos. Blah. Sorry about that!

Dessert was a small bowl of frozen peaches and chocolate chips.

IMG_0023.JPG

Some pretzels and almonds for an afternoon snack

I am 16 going on 17

Confession: I’ve never seen the Sound of Music.

I know. I know. I’m a strange one.

I’m honestly not sure why. I love old movies and I love musicals, but The Sound of Music never made it to my parents’ VCR. We were much more of a Grease, Dirty Dancing, and Disney Cartoon family. I could recite word for word the opening sequence to Aladdin, but I couldn’t even tell you what the story line was for The Sound of Music.

Derek, on the other hand, had never seen Grease, Dirty Dancing, or Aladdin before he met me, but he knows every note to The Sound of Music. When his family traveled to Europe a few years back, a large part of the trip was visiting all the famous sites from the movie. He randomly recites lines from the movie and I have no clue where to reference them to.

All that is about to change.

At the age of 26 I’m about to watch The Sound of Music for the first time. Better late than never, right? πŸ˜‰

If it makes you feel better, I’ve never seen Grease in it’s entirety…that’s almost as bad as The Sound of Music I think.

I’m such a geek about it I actually went to the Sing-A-Long Sound of Music. My sister and I wore costumes (nearly everyone did!). I was a “Ray of Sunshine” for the “ray” in doh-ray-me. She was “Tea” for the so-la-ti-doh part of the song.

It was one of the best times ever!! I absolutely love that movie and have seen it countless times.

On our annual family camping trip one year we stayed at the VonTrap Family lodge. When I was in Salzburg I did the Sound of Music tour, of course. I hope you love it as much as we do!
