Painting with a Twist

by Meghann on June 20, 2011

Isn’t it amazing what a little paint, direction, and wine can accomplish? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Seriously. Can you believe I painted that? I still can’t!

A couple of weeks ago my friend Kristin sent me an invite for a painting class event that supported the local Ronald McDonald House. For $35 you got a canvas, paint, step-by-step painting directions, and the feel good knowledge of knowing you were supporting a good cause.

Sign me up!

The paint class occurred at Painting with a Twist – a fun learn-to-paint studio that specializes in group classes.

Wine and snacks were heavily encouraged.

I like to think the wine helped bring out my inner painter.

Right, Kristin? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Our objective: to replicate the beautiful Cherry Blossom Painting.

Ready? Let’s begin!

First: Paint a quarter of the canvas pink.

Got it!

Second: artistic white lines

Third: Break for dinner

It was BYO Food.

I brought a salad in anticipation of a long night.

  • Mixed Greens
  • Carrot
  • Sugared Pecans
  • Olives
  • Pickle
  • Hard Boiled Egg
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Lemon Herb Dressing

Posed shot

And what I actually look like when I’m eating….

I also snacked on some pita chips

And a few curly fries ( a gift from the restaurant next door)

Back to the painting…

It’s starting to come together right?!

Just a few flowers

My signature….

And I am done!

Who knew I had that in me?! It’s AMAZING what a good instructor can teach you.

And it wasn’t just me – check out the other amazing work from around the classroom!

In the end our class raised $850 for the local Ronald McDonald House – Woop! Woop!

And we had a great time in the process!

Thanks for the invite ladies! I seriously had a blast!

I spent the afternoon working in Starbucks with a Corn VitaTop somewhere in between.

I also ended the night with a little Dark Chocolate.

Side note: we’re on day ?? of no ac and all the chocolate in my house had to be moved to the fridge because it was starting to melt in the pantry. Poor chocolate. :/

Have you ever taken a painting class? It was so much fun – I want to go back and do it again!

*Gasp* When did this become a “thing”? I just saw a Groupon for a similar painting/wine-tasting place in Vancouver a few days ago and was talking about how I’d never heard of the concept before. Then a day later, I saw someone else talking about it on the opposite coast. And now your post? Has this been around for a while and I just didn’t know it, or is it a new fad?

32 Meghann June 21, 2011 at 10:34 am

I think these type of places have been around for a while, they’re just discovering new ways to market it. It’s really fun though – did you buy the deal?

33 Jessi @ Quirky Cookery June 21, 2011 at 2:36 pm

Maybe so, and it looks like their new attempts at marketing are really working. Good for them! I love the idea.

And no, I didn’t buy it, and now I’m kicking myself. Maybe I’ll just have to check it out on my own anyway.

I took a painting class once! It was for my best friend’s 13 birthday party; a whole bunch of us went and took it together! We were painting flowers. I thought I was doing great and was really proud! But then one of the teenage helpers (not the actual instructor) came over, picked up a a brush, and started painting over some of my work–saying that he was “fixing it for me!” I was flabbergasted! The NERVE to do that to someone else’s painting! As soon as he left, I picked up my brush and painted over what he had just “fixed” and made it EXACTLY as I had it before! Hmm. I showed him! lol…
