Pretzel Nachos

by Meghann on June 10, 2011

I’ve been wanting to broil some cheese over my favorite giant pretzels for a while now, but the heat wave and new rule of ‘avoid turning the oven on by what-ever means’ prevented me from fulfilling that want.

However, today the ac is working (it may have unattached pipes that are draining into an 18 gallon bucket in my living room, but it’s working!) and I was craving some cheesey pretzels.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a true Meghann Meal if I didn’t take one of my original ideas one step forward. Cheese on pretzels? That’s been done! But... what if we add a bunch of other stuff and turn the pretzels into nachos?

So, that’s what I did!

I broke up the pretzels into bite size pieces, then covered them with a few of my favorite nacho toppings.

(Artichoke Hearts, Mushrooms, Olives, Tofu, and Cheese)

The dish baked at 375 for 10 minutes (because I piled it in a little bowl it was 10, if I had spread it out thin on a sheet pan it only would have needed 5), then topped the finish product off with salsa and more cheese.

Cheesy Pretzel Nachos at your service!!

The only thing that would have put this dish over the top would have been a little mustard. πŸ˜‰

I was afraid the pretzels would go soggy, but they stayed nice and crunchy. It was a fun change up from the typical tortilla chip nachos.

I snagged a piece of Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Brittle for dessert.

Happy Hot Dog Man

I saw this commercial today while I was eating lunch and about peed my pants, I was laughing so hard.

Think of it as my Friday present to you!

“I’ve been wanting to broil some cheese over my favorite giant pretzels for a while now…”

That may be the best first sentence in a post EVER. Love it!

Looks really good, I will definitely try this πŸ™‚

I’ve done this before with those Pretzel Crisps and did salsa, cheese, guac, and beans. Heavenly and oh so crunchy (one benefit over the standard tortilla chips). The regular pretzels are a little too much pretzel for toppings if you know what I’m saying, but I do love the flavor combo.

Happy Hotdog Man. Oh, geez.
When I was younger, one time our daycare lady had this ocean-themed lunch for us. We put blue food coloring in our milk and she cut our hotdogs to look like octopuses (octopi?). And I feel like we had macaroni shaped like shells or stars or something. It was fun. πŸ™‚
