Happy Friday!!

Who’s ready for the weekend?!? This girl!

I have a bar sponsored 5k (aka beer run) tonight, an open water swim/ bike ride in the morning, and a bridal expo with my sister on Sunday. Fun. Fun. Fun. πŸ™‚

Do you have any big weekend plans?

I hit the gym this morning for NROLFW 1A. Today was workout 5, which means I bumped up to 3 sets of 10 reps (and more weight) for every move. The addition of the extra set wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. I actually preferred the higher set/ lower reps approach because that meant more breaks and rest between moves. I stepped up all my weights and was content with the ratio of weight and effort. I felt shaky as I was writing down the weights used at the end – a good sign I was working something!

After I completed my workout, I discovered a new friend at the gym.

The Stretch Machine (anyone know the proper name? πŸ™‚ )



Admittedly I am a horrible stretcher. I rarely remember to stretch (that’s bad – very bad) and when I do I feel it’s a half-hearted approach. The stretch machine above may just be what I’ve been looking for to cure all that.

  • It makes stretching fun
  • There’s a diagram that I can follow, so there’s no second guessing what I’m missing
  • I can feel the pull/stretch
  • It only takes a few minutes

I’ve actually been curious about the stretching machine for a while, so I’m glad I finally took it for a test run. It took 5 minutes and my body instantly felt relaxed afterwards.

I’m hoping to make it part of my post-workout routine from now on. Stretching is so important in preventing injury! This is just what I need to make sure it gets done!

Are you a good stretcher? How do you work stretching into your routine?



Big bowl of cereal included

  • 1/2 cup Shredded Wheat
  • 1/2 cup Multigrain Cheerio
  • 1/4 cup Granola
  • Plain Yogurt
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries


You can’t tell from the photos, but this bowl was really half blueberries. Blueberries are so good right now! πŸ™‚

It may be Friday, but it’s still a work day. Time to work!

I’m alright with stretching, but I could definitely be better…

I LOVE me a big ‘ol cereal combo bowl! I do them all the time. Currently I’m combining, like, 3 different Kashi’s at once. πŸ˜‰

I’ve always been a bit intrigued by the stretching machine, actually. I’d love to see some stretches demonstrated because even with the diagrams I tend to be a little confused about what the heck to do on it. Something tells me I wouldn’t be very graceful!

I don’t know what that stretching machine is called, but there are 3 at my gym and I LOVE them! They do feel much better after at tough workout, and I’m terrible at stretching on my own.

I was just saying that I need to stretch more. I just have to make sure to stretch while i’m still at the gym instead of pretending I’ll stretch at home. I definitely need to stretch this weekend before my 32-mile bike ride on Sunday πŸ™‚

I’m horrible at stretching too and it doesn’t help that I’m always reading conflicting sources about when to stretch, how often and whether or not it’s even good for you.

By the way, your title has now gotten that Rebecca Black song stuck in my head. Lol.

I’m actually a good stretcher when I go to a gym, but when I’m working out/running from home, it takes way more motivation to stretch!

Ugh, I’ll admit, I’m an AWFUL stretcher!! When I used to do yoga occasionally, I felt much better, but just got so bored! Maybe that means I’m not happy with my own thoughts… but more likely, it just means I’m a kicker/puncher/lifter/jumper/dancer and less of a stretcher.

However, if I can find one of those machines at the gym, maybe I could make it work!

That machine always confused me, but now I would really like to try it. Like you, I am terrible when it comes to stretching. And I am always injured, so it is my own fault.

I’ve never used the stretch machine either. I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to figure out what to do. Sounds like a fun weekend planned! My Hubby and I are going to the beach for our one year anniversarry. Can’t wait!

I am the WORST stretcher, and I can feel the consequences every day. I am pretty sure I am at least 6 inches taller, I just need to loosen up the kinks in these muscles. That machine (with accompanying diagram) sounds lovely…

No big plans for the weekend. After three weeks of travel for business and then pleasure, I am happy to be home and just want to chill out. I predict a lovely Sunday afternoon nap with HGTV in the background…I get some great sleep while Sabrina Soto rearranges other people’s furniture for them!

Just like you I would always walk past the stretcher and now I stop and work it out! I love them! They really do help so much! I was super surprised how well they stretched my legs after a long run.

I would love to have one of those stretching machines at my gym- I’m horrible at stretching- this would definitely encourage me to stretch! Hopefully you can find a photo friend for the gym so you can show how to use it sometime!

I am usually an awful stretcher too but I started doing some yoga (class and on my own) a couple times a week and have totally noticed a difference so now I make time for it. Even if its in the shower after the work out (better than nothing right?!). I also injured my IT band from not stretching properly…so it’s definitely worth it. Maybe pick a fabulous stretching/cool down song that you will want to listen to!

That stretching machine looks and sounds cool – I have never used one (I’m so curious now). I always forget to stretch before/after working out. BUT I always stretch before I play softball – I try to stretch my legs good, I have pulled my quads MANY MANY times – that is a hurtful thing. The worst was pulling them in both my legs during a game and had to continue to play…that was so painful – I did a stretch before the game that I wasn’t used to….never again, I’ll stick to what I know!!

I don’t know the proper name of the stretch machine but I have them at my gym and love it. I am a HORRIBLE stretcher and have dealt with injuries that could have been prevented had a stretched properly. Live and learn, right?

I definitely don’t stretch enough. It’s hurt me in the past with races.

I <3 stretching. I usually stretch for 8-10 minutes total before and after my workout. I think once you notice a decrease in soreness, you'll be more inclined to stretch more often. πŸ™‚ That difference did it for me!

I love the stretch machine. I’ve been using it for over 10 years now and feel so sad if I move towns or gyms and they don’t have one.

I’ve never tried almond butter, but I’ve noticed you use it alot πŸ™‚ What is the benefit of the almond butter over peanut butter?

The MobilityWOD blog is a great palce to start learning how to use it, his stuff can get pretty extreme because he’s a Crossfit guy, but the principles that he shows with the foam roller and the lacrosse ball are awesome!

I never, ever….EVER stretch unless I feel stiff, and even then I only do for a couple minutes. I know I should….but I just don’t. Haha, bad habit I need to break.

I used to be a religious user of the stretch machine after my workouts, but I’ve been incorporating more yoga and haven’t hit the stretch machine in a long time. I’ve found that the breathing incorporated into the yoga poses actually relaxes me more than the stretch machine did. If you tend to ignore stretching, though then the stretch machine is probably a good way to start. I was a notorious non-stretcher before the stretch machine…and no, I still don’t know what it’s actually called.

I’ve tried a similar stretching machine before but I’m not entirely sure I did it right and haven’t been back since. I’m the worst stretcher ever and REALLY hate it. Good luck with your 5K tonight, sounds like it’ll be a fun one! πŸ™‚

I always stretch but probably not for as long as I should. I just started using that same machine at my gym after getting set up with their exercise tracking program, and just like you said, it makes stretching a lot more fun!

I actually joke that I work out so THAT I can stretch! I’m naturally inflexible, so I have come to love stretching and gaining flexibility! I stretch after every single work out
