A Quiet Day

by Meghann on June 5, 2011

Despite the horror of having a broken ac (and calling around and realizing how much it’s going to be to fix – YIKES!) I’d say this weekend ranks right up there as one of my favorites. Why? Well, it’s not because I got to go anywhere exciting or experience anything out of the ordinary (scratch that – holding two newborns is pretty exciting and out of the ordinary), it’s because I got to spend the majority of it with Derek.

Derek had Thursday and Friday off last week in anticipation of Marley’s arrival and it didn’t really hit me how wonderful it was having him around until I realized he has to go back to work tomorrow. Boo. I mean, who doesn’t like spending a full four days with their best friend? I was definitely spoiled.

We took advantage of our last day of freedom together by spending the first part of the day watching cheesey made-for-tv movies and cuddling with Maddie on the couch. Luckily the AC was having one of it’s ‘I think I’m going to work for now’ moments, so we weren’t too terribly warm watching *cough* ABC Family’s Another Cinderella Story *cough*.

We broke for lunch just before 1:00 and I made a mismatched snack plate of randomness.

Mini pita ‘pizzas’ with provolone cheese and homemade hummus

Pretzels and mustard

Apple Slices

And a Pickle!

(told you it was a random plate!)

Then we headed to the mall and I debated buying this dress at Old Navy.

What do you think? I have a wedding at the end of the month and I couldn’t decide if a Maxi dress would be to hot to wear or not. Thoughts?

Derek likes to joke that since i had dragged him to Something Borrowed a few weeks ago, that he was going to drag me to see X-men First Class when it came to theaters. (What he didn’t know was that I really wanted to see it too and was actually the one that suggested we it this afternoon. πŸ˜‰ )

Holy Crap was that movie good! Great storyline, great action, and hot actors to stare at. Love, love, loved it! It more than made up for the lackluster performances from Hangover 2 on Friday.

I grew up watching the Saturday morning X-Men cartoon, so anything to do with X-Men will always hold a special place in my heart. Actually, I’m a big fan of most comic book influenced films. Well... all the good comic book influenced films. There are some that just should never have been made *cough* Wolverine *cough.*

We went grocery shopping right after the movie and by the time we got home I felt like my stomach was about to cave in on itself. I ended up grabbing this Biscotti off of the countertop and chowing down before putting anything away.

(p.s. the Lemon Poppyseed flavor rocked! It reminded me how desperately I want to learn how to make Lemon Poppyseed Muffins. Will someone please teach me? πŸ˜‰ )

Our hunger bellies began to grumble while we were at the store, which led to the purchase of store bought pizza dough for a quick and easy dinner.

Pizza is my favorite go-to meal. Hands down. How much easier does it get that rolling dough, adding sauce, toppings, and baking for 15 minutes? Easy Peasey.

Our pizza toppings included onions, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, tempeh bacon, cheddar cheese, parmesan, and oregano.

Derek is pretty obsessed with the Publix dough because of how much it rises. It does yield the fluffiest, doughiest crust.

I had two small pieces with a side spinach salad of spinach, broccoli, and a yogurt blue cheese dressing.

Carbs + Greens πŸ˜‰

After dinner we snuck out for some premium baby time. Derek’s brother and girlfriend brought Marley home this morning and so far everything looks great. We spent a good two hours tonight taking turns holding baby Marley. I think Marley already has Uncle Derek wrapped around her tiny finger. It’s amazing how easy it is to fall in love with something so precious.

When we got home I made a small bowl of berries and dark chocolate for dessert.

What a great weekend!

Hopefully that means it will be a great week!

Good Night!

Sounds like you had the perfect Sunday. I really like the maxi dress and think it’s really cute! I have no idea if it would be too hot though — I’m from New York, so my idea of warm is much different than yours, I’m sure πŸ™‚

Hm I’m not sure how I feel about the dress. The print is great for summer, albeit a little noisy, but I feel like the hem should go down lower! Right now is seems a little awkward with the way it’s so high above the floor.

I really want to watch the new X-men. I’ve heard so many great things and I LOVE James McAvoy πŸ™‚

I love the pattern on the dress, but to be honest, I think it’s too big and overwhelms your small frame.

I LOVED X-Men. My friends and I can’t stop talking about it. I guess I knew I would love it since I loved the trilogy and super hero movies in general, but this one totally exceeded my expectations. I hope they make more!

To be honest, not a huge fan of the dress. I’ve made Mama Pea’s lemon chia seed muffins recently and they were great recipe.
Because of your pretzel/mustard combinations you’ve been posting latley I totally walked down the pretzel isle today in the grocery store and grabbed a bag and then promptly beelined to the mustard isle to grab some spicy mustard for them. Kinda excited for lunch tomorrow πŸ™‚

Jason saw X-Men and loved it — so I’m hoping that we’ll go together one of these days.

You are WAY to cute for that dress. Style in general very cute, pattern not as much… I think you could do better.

Weekends at home always seem to be the best when youre use to go-go-go! Glad you had some time with the love πŸ˜‰

17 Ally June 5, 2011 at 11:22 pm

The top of that dress is so pretty but the length is awkward! Why doesn’t Old Navy make dresses that go all the way down to the ground?!

YAY I’m so glad you liked X-Men! I saw it on Friday and I was completely in love the entire way with both Erik and Charles. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are two of my favorite actors and they OWNED. So gorgeous and talented! And that girl who played Mystique was fantastic, too.

The *only* good thing about Wolverine: Origins was the 2 minutes of Hugh Jackman nekkid! Not worth the price of admission though!

It’s an okay dress but it seems more ‘over the bathsuit for the beach’ dress then ‘going to a wedding in hot weather’ dress.

Hmm, not a fan of the dress. And I think it would be too hot. I think it looks just okay in that picture, but I have a feeling it looks better in the photo than it does in person. If the wedding is luau-themed, maybe that would work, but otherwise, I think you can find something better!

I love making my own pizza, but have such a hard time making a round one that I end up with weirdly shaped pizza every time.

The dress is fun, but I think it’s a. too short and b. too baggy for your cute figure. You can definitely do better! πŸ™‚

I am going to vote no on the dress. I like the style and its very flattering on you and probably wouldn’t be too hot, but the pattern is too big for you. Like Stacy and Clinton always say, “Little person, little pattern.” :0)

I like the maxi dress but it seems too casual for a wedding, no? Maybe if it’s a casual outdoor wedding.

32 Sara June 6, 2011 at 8:23 am

Lemon poppyseed muffins are easy! I know you’ve said you like scones before… here’s a recipe for lemon poppyseed scones that is super-delicious.

33 Heather June 6, 2011 at 8:49 am

I think you would be way cuter in a shorter dress. That dress screams “casual day at the beach’ more than wedding, and it seems to be a weird length.

Hey! Since you have been so open about the combo finances–will you and D split the A/C or will he pay for it since he owns the place technically? Just wondering as I am moving in with the BF this month! It is always interesting to see how others handle. Thanks! Good luck with the A/C!

36 Beth June 6, 2011 at 9:31 am

I agree, no on the dress. It’s a strange top-of-ankle length and the ruffle on the bottom is not flattering. Plus, I think it is WAY too casual for a wedding unless its some sort of casual luau wedding? I do like the print, though. It might be okay for the beach or just to have for bumming around?

37 Abbey June 6, 2011 at 9:46 am

I have been eyeing that dress for a couple of weeks now but I don’t have anywhere to wear it! I think you should definitely get it — so cute!

38 Marissa June 6, 2011 at 9:52 am

Don’t worry, I love cheap TV movies, too… especially the ones around Christmas time! They give me a warm, fuzzy feeling. I went to the movies today, too! Which is a big deal for me, haha–we never go see movies. But we saw Pirates 4, which was pretty good… first one’s still the best, though!

I totally grew up watching the X-Men cartoons as well! I can still quote them to this day – not sure if this is good or bad haha.

I think the dress is cute! You can always get it and keep looking – it would also make for a fun summer dress to have anyways πŸ™‚

40 jane June 6, 2011 at 11:13 am

i LOVE the dress. although i do agree that it is casual, wear instead of shorts, type deal. not really appropriate for a wedding unless the wedding is SUPER casual. i think the dress looks great on you!

I’m with the majority of others — the dress gets a thumbs down. It’s not at all flattering, and the print is just kind of blah — especially for a wedding. Maybe try a slightly nicer store/brand? Old Navy’s clothes have gone from bad to pretty much unwearable unless you’re under 18 these days.

43 amyt @ Chicken Nugget Momma June 6, 2011 at 3:29 pm

Haha – don’t you love how you can get fashion advice so freely when you post outfits on your blog/Twitter? I always find it helpful when it comes to dressing room indecision.

And I totally agree: Publix makes the best pizza dough! It really gets nice and crunchy, yet soft…and I love that it stays crisp if you have leftovers to reheat (I hate when pizza dough gets soggy later on).
