I’ve Got This

by Meghann on December 4, 2010

Don’t worry. I’ve got this. 😉

I keep forgetting I’m running a marathon in the morning. It kind of snuck up on me. I keep waiting for those nervous butterflies to come, but they are no where to be found. In their place I have the confidence and knowledge that this race is mine tomorrow – no butterflies needed.

My day started in Orlando with a bowl of cereal.

  • 1/2 cup Peanut Butter Puffins
  • 1/2 cup Uncle Sam’s Cereal
  • 1/4 cup Attune Apple Granola Munch
  • Vanilla Yogurt
  • Blueberries
  • Apple
  • Naturally Nutter Vanilla Almond Butter

Then I headed to my parents house to pick up my Dad and Sister for our road trip to West Palm Beach.

Look what my sister made me. 🙂

Best. Sign. Ever! Every time I look at it I smile. 🙂 Can’t wait to see that on my run tomorrow morning. 🙂

My parents had a stack of pancakes and I grabbed one to snack on.

Unfortunately we all agreed they tasted off. We blamed this little beauty.

Stay away from the powder buttermilk. Stay far, far away.

The drive to West Palm wasn’t bad at all.

It was three hours of beautiful skies and great conversation with family.

Also snacks.

Cookies x 3. I <3 cookies!

We went straight to the expo to pick up my bib and explore the (tiny) expo.

(That’s a looonnggggg course)

There wasn’t much to see, but it was still fun to walk around.

I had been exchanging e-mails with a reader named Gina who is running her first half marathon in the morning. We planned to have lunch together after the expo and headed to a cute thais restaurant near by to carbo load.

I ordered the Pad Thai with Chicken and Shrimp.

The shrimp you see on top were some of the best shrimp I’ve had in a while. They were extra fishy, which I assume means they were fresh and straight from the ocean. It made me wish I had asked for just shrimp and told them to double up!

We said good bye to the expo and headed to the beach to kill time.

It was a BEAUTIFUL day by the water. I was seriously regretting not having a bathing suit and towel to lounge on.

Tomorrow’s race is an out and back along the water. I full intend on taking an ice bath in the ocean as soon as I cross the finish line. 😉

I had no idea what I wanted for dinner tonight. You would think after 5 marathons I would have this down to a science, but I don’t. I thought I wanted some sort of pasta, but figured I had met my noodle quote with my pad thai lunch.

What to eat? What to eat?

We ended up parking down town Palm Beach and walking the strip to see what they had. There was a good mix of options spreading every genre of food, but oddly enough it was the restaurant with the cow on the building that caught my attention.

I know what you’re thinking. Yes, I are my final pre-marathon meal at a restaurant called Grease. I am not ashamed. A burger just sounded sooooo good to me, so I went with it.

And, oh what a good burger it was! Organic beef grilled to a medium-well topped with tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and a balsamic reduction sauce. It. Was. Amazing. Just what I was craving. 🙂

The table split a large thing of sweet potato fries.

And I had a few of my Dad’s onion rings.

As a side note... my sister is a vegetarian that’s tired of ordering veggie burgers so I suggested she order a burger-less burgers made up of toppings (avacado, grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms, etc). She loved it.

I had a Midnight Square Godiva chocolate as we left the restaurant.

Now, we’re back at the hotel and I’m prepping for an early bed time and an early wake up time. The marathon starts at 6:15 (!!!!) and we’re determined to get good parking before the start. 🙂

The palm beach marathon does not have any runner tracking system, BUT if you would like to follow along my sister will be tweeting marathon updates from her twitter. Just follow her at 🙂

Alright, I’ve got a marathon to run in the morning. Wish me luck!

Four hours or bust!!!
