High of 91

by Meghann on October 27, 2010

October what?

Boooo to highs in the 90s in the middle of October! Bring back the 70s please.

I was hoping training for this marathon would be a little cooler than my first – I guess now. I had 7 miles on the schedule this morning with 4 miles at a steady pace. The run felt relatively easy – which is a good thing – but I was soaked in sweat by the time I got back. It was a very warm run and my sweaty clothes can attest to that.

After sweaty runs all I want is something cold and refreshing for breakfast. I would have loved a smoothie – but was lacking in time – so a bowl of cereal and yogurt had to do.

  • Mini Box of Wheaties Fuel
  • 1/3 cup Kashi Puffs
  • Plain Low-Fat Yogurt (I switched from Fat Free to Low Fat to add a little more fat into my diet)
  • Honey Peanut Butter
  • Pineapple

The mini box of Wheaties Fuel was a free sample from the Race Swag bag this weekend.

Honestly, I’m not even sure I have ever had plain wheaties, but this ‘fuel’ version was a very dense cereal that reminded me of Kashi Go Lean Crunch. It was good mixed in with the plain puffs, but I wouldn’t have a whole bowl of it. It would probably be sugar overload all on it’s own.

Race Pics

The official pictures from Sunday’s race appeared in my inbox this morning. They’re not bad, but not great either. You can definitely tell I’m forcing a smile in that last .2 miles of the 10k. 😉

And just to give you a giggle…

I love how happy and excited Kath looks and I’m to her left thinking ‘What the hell did I get myself into’ This was at the beginning and we had just turned the first corner towards our first climb uphill. Nice.

Next race I’m going to be goofy for the camera. Whether it be making a funny face, jumping up, or what ever – if being cute isn’t working for me during races, then hopefuly being crazy will. 🙂

Heheh yay for race photos! I always look ridiculous in mine and never order them, but I think yours are good (and Kath’s too!) I’ve never tried Wheaties Fuel, but I agree on the Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal being very dense – recently I sampled a mini box of it and it was suuuuper sweet… definitely a good candidate for mixing with puffs!

Race photos never come out great. I think the photographers wait until you look like a complete goof then they snap the picture. But your pictures are actually really good! Kath looks great in her’s too!

I live in Indiana and Sunday morning I ran and it was 29 degrees… Monday morning at the same time it was 64. What???

Wheaties must be really pushing races this year – I got them in two different marathon swag bags this fall.

hahaha love your interpretation of your race pictures. It’s funny bc when I got my marathon pictures back I was smiling in all of them but KNOW the only reason I was is because there was a camera in my face.

Als0–high of 91?? Yikes!! We just had a 70 degree day in NY yesterday and it was heaven. But it’s also scheduled to possibly snow on Friday/Saturday so the weather changes fast here.

Out of curiosity, why don’t you just eat regular yogurt…?

6 Meghann October 27, 2010 at 9:44 am

Kath and I had a long talk about this on Friday and we both agreed the full fat is almost too rich and that low-fat is just right.

7 Heather @ Side of Sneakers October 27, 2010 at 9:44 am

I love the funny picture 😉 At the beginning of races I try to smile for the camera, but by the end I’m usually like “get outta my face!” 😉

It was 70* here in upstate NY and we declared it an “indian summer” Funny to think 70s are fall temps for Florida 🙂

That race actually got some great photos of people- nice and close up! Kath’s are hilarious 🙂 Usually in my race photos they are far away or obstructed. Looks like you guys had a great time!

It helps that it was a small race. That way when you ran by the camera peeps there weren’t too many people around to get away in the photo and they were able to be right on the course for photos.

I hate full fat yogurt, so I don’t blame you for not going with full fat. Full fat could walk the dog, it’s so rich.

My hubs and I bought that Fuel cereal. It’s awful as a stand alone cereal. It’s like eating a candy bar. It actually make me sick to my stomach, so I wouldn’t suggest it. Just fyi. 🙂

That is an adorable photo! I would love to have a day in the 90s just about now … I think I would take the day off and go to the beach to absorb vitamin D on a towel under the sun. Ohhh yeah.

I recently ran a 10K and tried to be ‘goofy’ for the cameraman. But, it didn’t work so well. When I finally saw the pictures, it would be hard for even my mother to love them. My expression is 100% grimace, teeth clenched, giving him a very meek two-thumbs-up. I suggest you practice posing while running in advance!

I HATE when it gets really warm again after cooler temps in the fall. Hope it cools down again soon.

Anyone that looks like a supermodel in a race picture is a freak of nature. Or isn’t running hard enough 🙂 That being said, I think you look pretty dang good in these! I have a race pic where I’m wiping my nose on the bottom of my shirt- super duper classy.

Yeah, what’s up with the 91 degree weather today?! I was sweating bullets in my car trying not to use the AC to save gas (what can I say, I’m a college student). I do NOT like wearing shorts at the end of October!

33 Clare @ Fitting It All In October 27, 2010 at 12:59 pm

I got that same cereal at a race a couple weeks ago! I don’t do sugary cereals in my meals, but I ate it like a snack:)

34 Meaghen October 27, 2010 at 1:02 pm

It’s funny, I ate fat fee yogurt for years and never had a problem with it. A few years ago, I switched to low-fat or regular fat yogurt and have never looked back! It tastes so much better than fat free which tastes like yogurt water to me now!

91??? That’s crazy! I can’t imagine having such hot weather in the end of October. I’ve had snow whree I’m from on Halloween before!

35 Stephanie @cookinfanatic October 27, 2010 at 1:18 pm

I am a follower of your blog and I had to tell you that I just heard that the writer from Marie Claire who wrote that terrible article about you is under fire again. This time she wrote an article about how network TV channels shouldn’t show fat people in love (or some crap like that). She then issued an apology saying that her harsh words are a direct result of her OWN body image issues and “life long obsession with being thin”. The woman is completely wack! Just had to put that out there.

Oh and I fully agree about the yogurt thing, I find full fat far too full-on for me! Its like overpowering!

42 Anna (twelve22) October 27, 2010 at 4:09 pm

I’ve got that Wheaties Fuel stuff several times at races, and it’s nothing like regular Wheaties (which is sort of like the flakes in Raisin Bran). Like you said, I find the Fuel to be way too sugary to eat on its own — I usually sprinkle it on yogurt or oats, like it’s granola.
