I Like Candy Bars

by Meghann on September 27, 2010

Lie: All natural energy bars are the most amazing thing in the world and I could eat one every day and not bat an eye.

Truth: I prefer bars that taste like candy bars.

Yes, I do tolerate and sometimes enjoy bars that taste like grass, but when i comes down to it give me chocolate, give me peanut butter, and for goodness sakes give me some sugar!

Those are the bars that make me swoon.

And the new-to-me Honey Stinger Peanut Butter ‘n Honey bar I tried for the first time this afternoon definitely made me swoon.

I stocked up on fun new bars and goos at Track Shack on Friday and this Honey Stinger Bar made the cut.

It was chocolately, peanut-ty, and tasted like a straight up Snickers bar. A candy bar in the middle of the afternoon? What could be better?

I know. I know. There’s a reason why this bar taste is so delicious.

I believe the 17 grams of sugar is a good place to start.

Le sigh.

Still, it was a nice treat and really did give me a nice boost of energy before hot yoga this evening. I would purchase another one in a heart beat for a special treat, but I wouldn’t eat one every day. I suppose the ‘grass bars’ are more suitable for that. Oh well.

Hot Yoga was a necessity tonight. My IT bands felt extremely tight for some reason today. I could especially feel it going up and down stairs. I need to invest in a good foam roller, but yoga was a great a stretching substitute.

Yoga isn’t just about stretching – yoga is about friends! After tweeting back and forth with Raya for months it was nice to accidentally bump into her at Orlando Power Yoga tonight. It’s a small Orlando after all.

Post-Yoga dinner was what I like to call “Fall in a Bowl”

or a Peanut Butter Pumpkin Smoothie. Which ever name works best for you. πŸ˜‰

In the blender:

  • Ice
  • Pumpkin
  • Plain Yogurt
  • Almond Milk
  • Peanut Flour
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Honey
  • Pumpkin Spice

On top:

Have you noticed I have a sweet tooth? Because I do and I am not ashamed! πŸ™‚

Photo Fun!

Remember that amazing fountain photo Derek and I took before dinner in Ft. Lauderdale the other week?

It’s a great photo, but it needed some work. Luckily, the very talented Macey had e-mailed me and offered to give the photo a quick once over.

The results were amazing! She sent me two options, but I can’t decide which one to blow up.

What do you think? Should I choose….

Option #1:

30 Lindsey @ SoundEats September 27, 2010 at 10:55 pm

1!!!! Classic, dramatic, romantic, beautiful. Timeless. Plus, I feel like sometimes different editing techniques for photos can be “fad”-ish. (I feel like in the past few years, there was a trend for super saturated, bright, highly contrasted photos, then it went to the more antiqued and muted look, etc.) I like the look of the 2nd photo, but if it were me, I’d invest in the first one as a blown up option. πŸ™‚

33 Geneviève September 27, 2010 at 11:05 pm

Option 1 for sure!! It is so classy!! I personally think the “spot of colour thing” (I am clearly not a photographer… lol) is just a phase (wow, just read Lindsey’s comment before mine and I swear I am not copying it!).
Which ever one you chose however, it is a BEAUTIFUL picture! Great idea to get it blown up!

oh honey stinger bars are the best!! the big protein ones are a little intense (pushing 500 cals a bar!!) but now they have smaller protein bars that are around 200 calories. the gels are amazing b/c they are natural- what other gel could you mix into your tea to get an extra boost before a race when you have a nervous tummy?? its because its just honey. honey stinger is actually based out of the town i live in now so go buy them now!! πŸ™‚ the chews are yummy too (i usually go with them on a long run, half a bag though- a full one upsets my tummy). they are actually the gel brand that is used at the marathon in my town (steamboat springs, co) -and im partial to the second photo!!

40 Natalie September 27, 2010 at 11:23 pm

I have tried the Honey Stinger bars and they are really good! You should try the gummy chews too…the pomegranate ones are awesome. That photo is amazing…I especially like the second one!

41 Cat September 27, 2010 at 11:29 pm

You know, the actual prints might not be all that expensive. A local place in SF does it for like $8. So maybe you could do both? Okay, maybe that’s a little silly, but then you’d really know which one you’d like!

I’m not sure if you already decided what to do with the picture, but if you are interested in going all-out, I would recommend sending it in to – they take your pictures and make them into canvases (framed or not). I feel I should probably be embarrassed that I *do* eat a candy bar most days. Not even a candy bar masquerading as a “health” bar, either. I’ll excuse myself by saying that my healthy eating philosophy is more about ensuring that I’m eating all of the nutritious stuff as *well* as the fun stuff, not about eliminating anything. I figure my body is getting the greens too, so it can just cope with a bit of sugar. Or a lot of sugar. Ahem.

Definitely the first one! There’s something so timeless and romantic about black and white shots. It looks like a movie still.
