Rise and Shine!

by Meghann on July 27, 2010

It’s Fartlek time!

Who doesn’t enjoy starting each and every morning with a fatlek?

hmmm…. certainly not I.

That’s probably why I only included them every other week in my Chicago training plan. 😉 I mean they’re fine once I start doing them, but the whole getting on the treadmill and knowing I’m going to be running my little heart out isn’t exactly appealing before 6:00 am.

On the plus side… when I do finish the early morning fartleks I always feel energized and refreshed for the rest of the day. Pounding out all your stress so early in the day will do that to you. 🙂

Eating a delicious breakfast doesn’t hurt either. 🙂

Cannoli Cereal. Yum!

  • 1/2 cup Shredded What
  • 1/2 cup Kashi H2H
  • 1/2 cup Kashi Flakes
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Ricotta Cheese
  • Honey
  • Dark Chocolate Chips <—the key ingredient in any bowl of cannoli cereal 😉

It’s like dessert for breakfast. 🙂

Odds & Ends

  • Are you planning on running Disney’s Princess Half Marathon in 2011? Register by August 8th and receive $20 off your registration fee. Sweet! And, yes I plan to run it this year! I will be there with a tiara, tutu, and in full princess glory! 🙂
  • Support Derek as he runs the Wine & Dine Half Marathon with the MS Society in October. Every dollar counts!
  • Some of you noticed the blog got a little face lift last night. I upgraded to the Twenty Ten wordpress theme and so far I like it. I’ve still have some tweaking to do, but I’m pretty sure all blogs are a never ending project, right?

dessert for breakfast is totally my motto 🙂 I find it makes me crave less sweets throughout the day.

I wan to run that half marathon so bad, but i’ll be at college :\ booo. That is the one half marathon on my bucket list. haha

I love the new layout! Definitely clearer. Btw, you’re my hero for doing such intense work-out way before I even rise!

4 Michaela July 27, 2010 at 9:49 am

Holy cow! That race entry fee is ridiculous even with the $20 off.

5 Morgan @ Life After Bagels July 27, 2010 at 9:52 am

I’m using the twenty ten theme too and I’ve really been liking it

My sister wrote a “love letter” to a cannoli on her blog this morning –

I was actually going to comment on the new layout. I like how well it’s organized, but it’s still definitely YOU. (:
You are the first person I’ve ever seen to put ricotta on cereal. Brilliant…

Look’s great! Both the breakfast AND the new layout! 🙂

9 Kelly July 27, 2010 at 10:06 am

I wish I could run the disney princess, but sadly orlando is too far away 🙁

10 Kristina @goodnweird July 27, 2010 at 10:10 am

Tuesdays are my speed workouts too. I hated them at the beginning of my training but now I kind of look forward to them.

Love the new look! Will you be putting your blogroll back up? I always hit my other favorite bloggers using the links from your website! Thanks!

Ooh! I have to try ricotta in my cereal sometime!

13 carly July 27, 2010 at 10:30 am

I have to say that I know this new layout is more functional, but I kinda liked the old one better! Oh well, I’m sure I’ll get used to it. 😀

That breakfast looks delicious … I’m going to have to add ricotta to my shopping list.

I ran the disney princess this year! It was definitely worth flying all the way from Michigan to run!!!

15 lowandbhold July 27, 2010 at 11:12 am

What a creative breakfast! I think I would love that, with whipped cream cheese instead of ricotta maybe.

16 Olivia @ Blissful Runner July 27, 2010 at 11:27 am

I get antsy about fartleks but they do help me get faster … and feel so much better when I’m done with them!

21 Meghan @ Ramblings of a Bride to Be July 27, 2010 at 12:58 pm

Woohoo I am running the Princess this year, first half marathon!

22 hundredtenpounds July 27, 2010 at 1:17 pm

Fartleks make me sore for days! But it’s fun. 🙂

23 mary August 1, 2010 at 11:37 am

My sister and I will be running the Princess Half marathon too. It’s actually on her birthday so we figured we had to do it. We did a 5k on my birthday a couple years ago, so now it’s her turn. We’re both really excited.
