A Free Saturday

by Meghann on July 24, 2010

I’m starting to really enjoy these free Saturdays I’ve been spoiled with recently.

Not only do I have the option to stay at home on the couch in my underwear if I so choose, but I also finally have the time to venture out to some of my favorite Orlando hot spots that I’ve been missing out on the last couple of months.

Free time is a beautiful thing. ๐Ÿ™‚

The Winter Park Farmer’s Market just happens to be one of those Orlando favorites that I haven’t had the time to visit lately. After a lazy morning the farmer’s market was on the top of mine and Derek’s list to visit today.

As soon as we arrived I was reminded why it had been so long since we’ve been here – it’s July and we live in Florida. It was HOT. Like boiling hot! I think we were there less than 20 minutes before we had to give up and call it quits.

Luckily those twenty minutes were just enough time to grab a little bit of produce and for Maddie to make some new friends.

It was also enough time to run into at least one person I knew.

Katy was browsing the market with her husband, Adam, and they too were melting in the sun. We had just enough time to say a quick hi before running to the AC in the car. But, Katy – if you are reading this – I am up for Menchis anytime. ๐Ÿ˜‰

After the market came Best Buy for a indestructible cover for my phone (Apparently none of the covers were indestructible enough because I walked out empty handed) and the Apple store to get Derek the iPhone4 (they were sold out). We were 0 and 2 for the afternoon; darn our luck.

With our spirits running low and our energy even lower, we headed to Red Brick Pizza for lunch.

We still had some other errands to run, so I wanted something quick and easy. I had never been to Red Brick Pizza before, but I liked that you could order from the counter and just wait for the pizza to be brought out to you.

I also liked the eclectic, creative menu which boasted some delicious sounding pizza combinations.

I was ‘this close’ to ordering the typical veggie-ful pizza, but in the end decided to be different and ordered the Prosciutto, Mushroom, and Arugula.

Derek and I split the medium and each had 3 smallish slices.

The pizza was greasy and a little heavy, but the flavor was spot on. I was really happy I had gone with the prosciutto pizza. The salty prosciutto was a nice addition to the greasy slices. ๐Ÿ™‚

Next up, the grocery store, the mall, and gas.

Somewhere along the way my Dad invited us over for dinner. Who are we to turn down free food?!? When our errands wrapped up I headed to the rents and nibbled on a carrot with almond butter along the way.

I love eating carrots whole, I really need to do that more often. ๐Ÿ™‚

My Dad had purchased a chicken marinate mix at a local chinese food market a while back and had been dieing to experiment with it. The chicken was still marinating in the secret when we arrived, so I helped with roasting the vegetables and steaming the greens. By the time everything was ready I made sure to grab a taste of everything.

On my plate I had some baked tofu, chicken with mushrooms and onion, roasted squash, and steamed broccoli rabe.

I couldn’t really taste the chinese marinade on the chicken, but I did enjoy the teryaki on the tofu. Yum. ๐Ÿ™‚

For dessert i had a small serving of Rocky Road Ice Cream in a random sugar cone I found in the pantry.

I <3 Ice Cream.

We spent the rest of the evening relaxing in my parent’s ridiculously warm pool.

Too bad the pool can’t be that warm year around. Give it two months and it will feel like Ice all over again. :/

I got a lot of things accomplished today and I still have so many more to dos for tomorrow.

  • Run 15 Miles
  • Help Kelly Move
  • Find hard case for phone
  • Take a long nap. ๐Ÿ™‚

Bring it on!

Good night!

My parents live just a couple miles away from that market! ๐Ÿ™‚ Whenever I come visit them I ALWAYS go there. It’s a Saturday tradition and I love all the things they sell. It’s one of my favorite places to be.

Good luck on the run tomorrow… I wish you an early start, so you don’t scorch. That would be a major shame, because I really like reading your posts. (:

Warm pools are the best on a hot day. They just keep you cool enough to stay outside but not so cold you want to get out. And they are a necessity of Florida. :0)
