No Eating Out Week

by Meghann on July 12, 2010

Good Morning!

How was your weekend?

In case you missed it, this weekend I…

What did you do?

As I had missed one of my training runs this weekend, I decided to make for it with a 4 miler around the block this morning. It was a great, fast run averaging 8:45 minute miles. It was still hot and gross, but for some reason my body felt like I could handle it. I guess the fact that the sun was still sleeping helped? 🙂

Breakfast was a delicious bowl of cereal.

Contents included:

  • 1/2 cup Kix
  • 1/2 cup Kashi Flakes
  • 1/4 cup Granola
  • Plain Greek Yogurt
  • Rolled Dates
  • Strawberries

Someone had inquired in the comments what exactly a rolled date is a while back. Honestly, I’m not 100% sure. I just tried to google an exact definition but couldn’t find one. But, to the best of my knowledge a rolled date is a piece of a date that has been rolled in either powered sugar or flour. The ones I use have been rolled in oat flour. 🙂

Either way, the rolled dates are delicious and make a wonder sweet, chewy addition to what ever I put them in. They also make a great snack or quick grab from the pantry.

No Eating Out Week

I think I am going to declare this week ‘No Eating Out Week.’ I love to venture to a new restaurant more than anybody, but with all the traveling I’ve been doing as of late I am honestly sick of it. This week and coming weekend I’m going to try really, really hard to just eat what ever I have at home. I’m hoping this will save some $$ and my sanity. 🙂

Anyone with me?

Ha! I love that you had Kix! I haven’t had those since I was in elementary school!!!
I need to have a no eating out/no more grocery store week! I’ve been spending crazzzyyy amounts of money on food!

I think I’ll participate in no eating out week. I love it but I also get sick of it. Your cereal looks so refreshing and yummy!

I was wondering what a rolled date was too – I’m glad you answered it!
You missed a training run? What about thr 12miles!? Eek :s

4 Courtney @ Three Months July 12, 2010 at 9:20 am

I can understand why you want to eat at home! Enjoy those home-cooked meals this week!

5 Marilou @ Mostly Healthy July 12, 2010 at 9:33 am

I was the one wondering about rolled dates 😉 Thank you!

I looked around to find some, since I think it does look delicious, but no chance … 🙁

Nice idea on the no eating out week. I would be with you, but I’m headed to NYC this weekend and I know I’ll be eating out (slash drinking out!). Maybe the following week though!

7 gavrielski July 12, 2010 at 9:45 am

I am DEFINITELY with you–I’m cooking this week! I went to a wedding in Kansas this weekend and the food just wasn’t for me. 🙁 On to a healthy week!

Although I would rather spend more money on a fantastic dinner than a new shirt (I know, what kind of girl am I?), I am SO with you on the No Eating Out Week. It all adds up so quickly and I end up eating more in restaurants than I would at home. I need to start eating at home more.

I’m definitely with you on your mission to not eat out. I think I just need to cut back in general and get back to my “healthy spending” habits!

10 Kelly July 12, 2010 at 10:03 am

Oh after a week long vacation I am more than ready to eat some home cooked meals also!

11 missyrayn July 12, 2010 at 10:32 am

Hunni and I need a week like this but this is not the week for it. We have a lot of work meetings this week that require eating out but we will declare a moratorium on eating out in a week or so.

12 Derek July 12, 2010 at 10:41 am

my wallet is with you 😉

I’m up for “No Eating Out Week”! I already have dinner plans for Friday, but otherwise, sounds like a fantastic idea! My wallet (and waistline) could use it!

14 Lauren @ Team Giles July 12, 2010 at 11:12 am

Good for you doing a “no eating out week”. I’ve done that before and it definitely is great for your checking account and your health! 🙂

I so wish I could go to HLS… but we’ll be in NYC that week. Take a TON of pictures k? 🙂 I’ll pretend I’m there

15 Sarah @ Long Legs Healthy Life July 12, 2010 at 11:31 am

I am with you on “No eating out week”. I ate so much fast food/restaurant food/junk food last week, I (and my wallet) are sick of it!

16 Alexis @ Mission: Ambition July 12, 2010 at 11:50 am

No eating out week is a GREAT idea! I may try this as well 🙂

17 Kellie July 12, 2010 at 11:54 am

I try not to eat out very much. I like to be able to control what I eat by eating at home and it does get expensive to eat out all the time.

18 *Andrea* July 12, 2010 at 12:25 pm

i like your idea! mine should be a no eating a $10+ salad at whole foods week 😉

19 Stacey @ Tipping the (Kitchen!) Scales July 12, 2010 at 12:32 pm

Whenever I’ve been away for a while I always come baack just wanting to eat the food I normally would at home so your no eating out idea sounds good.

20 Jessica @ July 12, 2010 at 12:54 pm

I’m with you on no eating out week! Actually I never eat out because I just can’t afford it. (Well, I could, but I use the money instead to buy higher quality food from the grocery store or farmer’s markets.) I missed it at first, but after a few years of doing it, it’s no big deal now. 🙂

21 Elizabeth July 12, 2010 at 12:54 pm

I often have a “not eating out” week or 2 – it’s amazing how much money you save. I’m actually just finishing up the book now “Not Eating Out in New York” based on the well-read blog by the same name. Have you heard of it? She talks about lots of reasons, and goes for 2 years without eating out. Don’t think I could make it that long!!

22 thelifeoferin July 12, 2010 at 1:52 pm

I’m with you on the no eating out thing! it gets really tiring after a while, never knowing if what you ordered is going to turn out to be what you expect! and of course, it does burn a hole in the wallet!

23 kaztronomic July 12, 2010 at 2:02 pm

I never thought about rolled dates being rolled in flour. Yikes. I just assumed it was powdered sugar or something. o.O I better stop eating mine until I can confirm what it’s rolled in. (I bought mine in bulk, and it didn’t say anything about gluten/flour on the ingredients.)

I hear you on not eating out. I just want to eat my own food, at home, that I made. I’m tired of dining out, really.

I wish I could join you in your “No Eating Out Week” challenge. This was my original plan for when I came home from vacation, but instead:
Today: coffee meeting, then lunch meeting
Tuesday: VERY early breakfast meeting, dinner out b/c a friend is in town
Wednesday: lunch meeting
Thursday: networking happy hour event
Friday: detoxing!
