Burger and Beer Joint

by Meghann on July 10, 2010

Welcome to Miami! We’re live from South Beach Baby!

My brother’s girlfriend just happens to live in the South Beach area and I have to admit I’m uber-jealous of her adorable apartment that comes complete with incredible views, an incredible beach, and the hundreds of shops, bars, and restaurants all in within walking distace. Love it!

The drive down was boring and slow. Thankfully there was little to no traffic, but 4 hours in a car is just plain tough! I have this uncanny ability to fall asleep in a car whether I’m driving or not and I had to fight the urge extra hard today to stay awake at the wheel.

A lot of tea was consumed in an attempt to pump my body full of caffeine.

Snacking on dried fruit helps too.

While I was fighting the urge to sleep, Maddie was fighting the urge to sit still. She was my jumping road companion this afternoon.

In honor of Adena’s Birthday a large group met up for dinner and The Burger & Beer Joint in South Beach.

As soon as my brother sent me the online menu for this place last week I knew I was going to love it. I mean, great menu, great atmosphere, great beer, and great food – what more can a girl ask for in a burger and beer joint? πŸ˜‰

The restaurant specializes in a build your own burger concept, which most of the table of 12 participated in. You start with a base ( grass fed beef, turkey, etc. ) and build from there.

I considered a burger, but as soon as I saw the Dear Prudence on the menu I knew there was no need to create the perfect burger because it had already been created.

I did make a few adjustments by asking for goat cheese instead of mozzarella and a whole wheat bun instead of ciabatta.

I wish the lighting would have been a bit better because I would have loved to have photographed every juicy aspect of this huge portabella burger. But, sadly these photos will just have to do and you’ll have to take my word for it. πŸ™

I can tell you that I loved how they served all the extra sauces on the side, how they give you a whole roasted garlic bulb, that they were awesome with substitutions, that the food tasted amazing, and how much food they give you.

Along with my burger I snacked on some fried pickles and sweet potato fries before the food arrived.

It was fun going out with my brother and all his med school friends. At one point I kind of stepped back and realized I was the only non-med student person at the table. It was pretty freaky thinking that all these 20-something kids who were eating burgers and drinking beers were all going to be doctors in a year’s time. We’re all grown ups now.

I have an early morning planned with an early run, then it’s spa time! Yay!!

Happy Weekend!!

That place looks amazing! I’m going to have to keep it in mind … I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I will get to vacation in Miami by the end of the year, and a burger and fries is one of my favorite meals. Have fun today!

It reminds me of the “Be the Chef” menu at Rockfish, but SO MUCH BETTER. I have to go there before I die….
