Hot Run, Cold Smoothie

by Meghann on June 13, 2010

Is there anything better after an 8 mile run in this heat and humidity than a nice cold smoothie? I think not!

I took my time getting out of bed this morning, which seemed great idea at the time, but 10 minutes into my run I was really regretting.

It was hot and sunny by the time I hit the pavement. I stuck to shade when possible and downed the entire water bottle I brought with me before I was done. I kept envisioning this beautiful smoothie I knew I was going to make upon my return.

After eight sweaty miles in an hour and fifteen minutes, i headed straight to the blender.

  • Frozen Mango
  • Frozen Pineapple
  • Plain Yogurt
  • Almond Milk
  • Spinach
  • Peanut Powder

It went down so fast. ๐Ÿ™‚

On the side I had a Cherry Chocolate Scone I had defrosted in the microwave for a few seconds.

I’m off to have lunch with my cousin and her three beautiful children. We still haven’t decided where we’re eating yet. Where’s a good place to bring three children all under the age of 8 for a healthy, delicious lunch? I’m stumped!

CPK for lunch?

8 miles — you rock.

Hi there!

You are my running inspiration! 8 miles … your awesome. I have been a silent reader for quite some time now but just decided to take a leap and try and become an active member in the food blog world because I love it. I have read your blog along with Tina’s, Kath’s, Jenna’s and Caitlin’s forever! I am looking forward to finding more new blogs to read too! These smoothies you make intrigue me and I am considering trying one myself. Do they have a strong spinach flavor though? not sure if I would like that.

SWEET TOMATOES/ SOUPLANTATION.. if you have one! They can build their own salads, they have AWESOME cheezy bread sticks + frozen yogurt w/ kiddie toppings and cookies!

I just googled peanut powder. ๐Ÿ™‚

So are you just using it as a protein powder sub? I’m looking for a new protein sub for my shakes, as the one I currently use is super sugar loaded and doesn’t have great staying power…obviously not a great combo.

I just thought the peanut powder would taste good in the smoothie. ๐Ÿ™‚ I found it at an asian market the other week. It did give the smoothie some staying power though ๐Ÿ™‚

Great-looking smoothie! Yummmmm…..!

I love that you used your starbucks cup for a great smoothie.

Can you really notice a taste difference with the peanut powder? Running in the summer heat is NOT joke! We may not get humidity here in Arizona, but 110 degrees is no fun no matter how you slice it!

15 Meghann June 13, 2010 at 4:42 pm

the peanut powder give the smoothie a hint of peanut butter ๐Ÿ™‚

Healthy choices with three kids is always tough…I deal with that when I take my nieces and nephews out. They always pick the worst places, like Steak n Shake! Panera is probably my choice with kids.

I want that starbucks cup so bad! I love the tumbler! is it hard to clean?

18 Meghann June 13, 2010 at 4:44 pm

Not hard to clean at all ๐Ÿ™‚

I dream about my smoothies when I’m on long runs, too! I run in the Atlanta heat, so I know what you mean about craving something cold when you’re done running!

As a mother of three the trick to a fun meal is pack toys and goodies in your purse. Bribery is a beautiful thing.

so I “ran” (meaning panted) the other day in the heat…i seriously couldn’t breathed…I wish I was on a reality show at that moment cause I was seriously “hamming” it up the whole time.

23 Emilyeatsclean June 13, 2010 at 8:32 pm

I drink my smoothies out of my starbucks cup too! ๐Ÿ™‚
