The theme of today’s lunch was SWEET!

I think my sweet tooth was in overdrive as I was dreaming this plate up during work this morning.

Whole Wheat Pita + Almond Butter + Apple + Raisins + Strawberry Jam

Wowza! Talk about a kicked up PB&J!

Confession: I HATE PB&J!

But for some reason when I use strawberry jam instead of grape jelly (what I grew up on and still can’t stand today), almond butter instead of ‘fake’ peanut butter, and add some crunch, I’m all of a sudden in love with the sweetfullily delicious combo.

Remaining apple slice

goldfish pretzels

My snack this morning consisted of grape tomatoes and swiss cheese.

The savory snack is probably why I was craving a sweet lunch. 😉

Time to jet!

Yummmm that looks so good!!

2 britchickruns May 27, 2010 at 1:31 pm

Wow thtat lunch looks good! I know what you mean re the PB and J…I like it, but I’d SO much rather have loads of PB instead 😛

3 Evan Thomas May 27, 2010 at 1:32 pm

I always need a savory or salty meal. I swear, I go through onions like apples at meals

4 theprocessofhealing May 27, 2010 at 1:32 pm

I looove pb and j but I always make them with strawberry jam!

5 Beth May 27, 2010 at 1:33 pm

I never have raisins in my house but you’ve been using them a lot lately and I’m tempted! 🙂

6 culturalcravings May 27, 2010 at 1:34 pm

That looks delicious…and reminiscent of elementary school! 🙂 Apple, carrot sticks, pb& j plus goldfish crackers?

7 Jenna May 27, 2010 at 1:46 pm

Your lunch looks heavenly!! While I love pb&j, I must say, I’m not much of a grape jelly fan, either!

8 hundredtenpounds May 27, 2010 at 1:50 pm

I get sick of food I eat too much of. For example, for almost 2 years I ate a turkey sandwich with a serving of Wheat Thins for lunch every day. I can’t stand turkey sandwiches now!

9 Danielle May 27, 2010 at 1:52 pm

So delicious. I’ve been loving the apple and nut butter combo so much more than banana lately 🙂 have a great Thursday!

10 ellaroo88 May 27, 2010 at 1:55 pm

That apple looks amazing! What kind is it? I love apples and carrots together! I’m not sure why but the flavors mix amazingly

11 Jenny May 27, 2010 at 2:04 pm

You dont like PB&J!?! That’s crazy! Looks like a great pita, though!

12 amanda May 27, 2010 at 2:25 pm

what a very SWEET looking lunch indeed. i love the overstuffed pita look.

but you don’t like PB&J? crazy girl!

13 Anna May 27, 2010 at 2:26 pm

I always use strawberry jam instead of grape– it’s my fave! Looks like a great lunch!

14 adrienmelaine May 27, 2010 at 2:29 pm

I never had grape jelly when I was growing up- thank god. I’ve never liked it- but we always had homemade raspberry jam that hit the spot each time!

15 Olivia @ Blissful Runner May 27, 2010 at 2:33 pm

I’ve been craving sweet lunches recently too. Can you say grilled apple butter and banana sammich? I can! 🙂

16 Kellie May 27, 2010 at 2:34 pm

I love pb&j. I could eat it everyday.

17 Jenn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) May 27, 2010 at 2:55 pm

Goldfish pretzels sounds so good… with PB! I need to try them. 🙂

Yummy lunch!!

Glad you are enjoying your new Garmin. I got a Polar F7 heart rate monitor as a Hanukkah gift last year, right before I started running. It cost about the same as what you paid on Amazon deal of the day. I love my heart rate monitor, and I’m glad I got it! But now that I am a runner, I really wish I could track my pace, distance, etc along with heart rate and calories burned.

19 Lindsay May 27, 2010 at 3:11 pm

You don’t like PB&J? Gasp! That hurts my heart. PB&Js are one of my favorite comfort foods….I love them as fuel for a great run or hike!

20 Sarah May 27, 2010 at 3:47 pm

Mmmm…love the combination of apples, pb (in my case), and raisins:-).

21 Liz May 27, 2010 at 3:55 pm

I agree with you on the grape jelly. I can’t remember if that’s what I got in my pb&j … but I do remember we always had grape juice. I can’t stand either, I think it’s because grape juice and jelly taste nothing like real grapes.

22 thewhatkateateblog May 27, 2010 at 4:11 pm

Cheese makes the best snack.

23 fitandfortysomething May 27, 2010 at 4:12 pm

what a great fun lunch!

24 Erin May 27, 2010 at 4:15 pm

I love putting apples into savory dishes, especially sandwiches. It gives a little extra crunch and a burst of sweetness. 😀

25 Amanda @ Cakes and Ale May 27, 2010 at 5:15 pm

I hate PB & J too! Never have liked it. I like jelly, and I love peanut butter, but together they just do not work for me AT ALL.

Oh – and I don’t like the grape jelly stuff either! Bleh – raspberry preserves, all the way!

26 Lisa @bakebikeblog May 27, 2010 at 5:23 pm

I love the idea of adding raisins 🙂 Pure genius!!

27 Jo May 27, 2010 at 5:34 pm

Confession: I’ve never had a PB&J sandwich- I had no idea that they were that big a thing in the U.S. until I began reading some blogs- and had never tasted peanut butter straight before… so I trundle out, get a nice big jar and… no. Only in Reece’s chocolate do I like. I don’t think I’d make a good American 😉

28 Jo May 27, 2010 at 5:36 pm

Um, yeah. Reeses, not Reeces. You can tell how rare it is to find their chocolate over here!

29 Megan @ The Oatmeal Diaries May 27, 2010 at 5:58 pm

Mmm I love sweet lunches! Or sweet anything really =P

30 flowyogilates May 27, 2010 at 5:59 pm

Great lunch! mmmmhhhh raisins….

31 Stacie @ Imperfectly Healthy May 27, 2010 at 6:23 pm

Mmm…your sweet lunch looks good! I have a huge sweet tooth, so it works for me!

32 jenny May 27, 2010 at 6:36 pm

I like this idea, the raisins would be great in a regular pb&j sandwich too. yum

33 sweetandsweat May 27, 2010 at 7:29 pm

I totally understand your dislike for grape jelly. I don’t know I can eat grapes, drink grape juice, but in a jelly’s like a jelly-like Tylenol to me. I ALSO GOT MY GARMIN TODAY. But you got yours for a steal! I bought mine on Amazon and it was a good 30 dollars more than yours. Lucky!

34 Katherine: What About Summer? May 27, 2010 at 8:23 pm

all great sweets! but natural sugar of course the best kind

35 dianacheung May 27, 2010 at 9:07 pm

i dunno if i can read your blog anymore..pb&j is like my food bible..okay not THAT serious but seriously…it’s my treat from time to time! Maybe you can try raspberry spread or mango?

36 Marissa May 27, 2010 at 9:31 pm

Hey, sweet is always the best in my book! I haven’t had a PB&J in ages. I should fix that soon.

37 Jennifer May 27, 2010 at 9:32 pm

OMG so yum! 🙂 I actually like grape jelly (which is funny because aside from actual grapes, I don’t like grape flavored anything lol).

38 runnerforever May 27, 2010 at 9:52 pm

Now that is what I call a creative lunch!

39 missyrayn May 27, 2010 at 9:58 pm

I hate PB&J too. I never at it as a kid. But i love almond butter and raspberry jam.

40 caronae May 27, 2010 at 10:23 pm

Such a creative way to have a sweet but still healthy lunch. Me likes!

41 rebecca lustig May 28, 2010 at 9:04 am

ahh, you always gotta satisfy that sweet tooth with some saltyness (aka the pretzel goldfish)

totally looks like a lunch I’d make!
