It’s Not Always Sunny in Miami

by Meghann on April 17, 2010

Hello South Beach!!

Not exactly the gorgeous sunny day I was expecting, but it will do. πŸ™‚

My alarm was set for 4:45am this morning in hopes of beating traffic and completing the 4 hour drive before brunch.

I packed a cup of cereal to nibble on during the drive.

I also had a large cup of highly caffeinated to keep me awake.

Despite accidentally hopping on a wrong road and needing to stop to let Maddie out, I managed to make great time in getting to Miami. πŸ™‚ I met my twin bro at his apartment and he drove me straight to South Beach where he swore he knew the best place to get brunch in all of Miami – The Front Porch.

The Front Porch is located on Ocean Avenue and you always know a place in good when the surrounding restaurants have empty tables, yet this one had a line of people waiting to be seated!

No wait for us though, since the fabulous Melissa arrived a tad before us and had a table waiting.

Hi Melissa!

Josh’s friend Adena from med school lives in the area and joined us for brunch as well.

Adena was actually the one who originally introduced Josh to The Front Porch and highly encouraged me to order the Granola Pancakes with fresh berries.

Trust me, I did not need much encouragement. πŸ˜‰

The granola pancakes were very grainy and hearty. Each bite was full of nuts and oats and you could tell they used fresh berries instead of frozen. I loved, loved, loved these pancakes!

I ate about 3/4 of the pancakes and finished off the side of fruit.

After brunch we headed to the beach.

Why is it every time I’m in South Beach it’s cloudy and windy?!?

Melissa and I managed to catch a few rays of sunshine through the clouds.

The beach was great because of the not too hot, not too cold temps, but there is only so long you can stay on a cloudy because before it starts to get a little depressing.

After a while we packed up and headed to Lincoln Rd for a little shopping and people watching. Miami brings people watching to a whole new level. πŸ™‚

I was feeling snacky and this display of pretzels caught my eye.

Hello lovelies!

I purchased a multi seed pretzel and feel in love. πŸ™‚

I promise it’s as good as it looks!

I had 1/2 while walking and the other half in the car. I think if you put that many seeds on anything then I am going to enjoy it. πŸ™‚

I also had a free chocolate from Ghirardelli.

And a vegetable juice from a gourmet market my Dad told me to visit. (plus a few samples πŸ˜‰ )

Melissa was cringing at the veggie juice, but I thought it was good. πŸ™‚

Since brunch was fairly late I’m considering the pretzel & vegetable juice my lunch.

Melissa and I are meeting a few other blogger in Miami tonight for dinner. It’s suppose to be a great Indian food restaurant and should be fun!

Your pancakes look so great. I love pancakes! I’d love that veggie juice too. Fun day even though the sun wasn’t out!

Have fun with your friends tonight! πŸ™‚

Aww..sorry that your visit here has been cloudy so far! Hopefully this rain from Ft. Lauderdale doesn’t make its way down there. Were those Froot Loops on that pretzel?? I’ve never seen that place…gonna need to check it out!

4 Rachel April 17, 2010 at 6:20 pm

Granola pancakes and a pimped-out pretzel! Amazing! Looks like you got some good eats despite the not-so-ideal weather.

5 britchickruns April 17, 2010 at 6:23 pm

Wow, those pancakes sound different!!
Haha, if you find a day in Miami depressing cos it’s a bit cloudy, don’t come live in England – it’s ALWAYS cloudy and depressing!
Have a great night πŸ˜€

Sometimes slightly cloudy days are best for the beach. That way you don’t overheat or overburn…yet still get a good tan. Granola pancakes are the best idea.

7 Matt April 17, 2010 at 6:28 pm

Those pancakes look AMAZING.

8 Evan Thomas April 17, 2010 at 6:38 pm

I miss Miami! It’s one of my favorite places to visit. Those pancakes sound great! So sorry about the clouds, but I’m glad it was a good time for you.

That breakfast looks KILLER! YUM! And I’m only slightly jealous of your sunny beach. πŸ˜‰

14 NYCRunnerGirl April 17, 2010 at 8:10 pm

Considering it was only 50 and rainy here, I’d say your beach weather was perfect! Have fun tonight!

15 theprocessofhealing April 17, 2010 at 8:29 pm

OH MY. Those pancakes look INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

16 runningwithsass April 17, 2010 at 8:49 pm

sorry it was cloudy, still looks fun!

17 missyrayn April 17, 2010 at 9:09 pm

Those pancakes sound right up my alley. I don’t like the lighter than air kind that do nothing to fill me up.

I thought that was ketchup for a minute. I think it might scare me too πŸ™‚

18 Katherine: What About Summer? April 17, 2010 at 9:14 pm

Wow love the beach! How do you pick healthy restaurants when traveling?

19 sarah (the SHU box) April 17, 2010 at 9:55 pm

ohhh i’ve been all those places — my husband is from right there! i like the Front Porch — so cute. and epicure is amazing (but makes WF look cheap!)

What a fun looking day!
And those pancakes…..YUM!

24 Ash Bear April 17, 2010 at 11:21 pm

It looks like you two had a great day even though the sun wasn’t too strong. Hope the Indian food didn’t disappoint either!

25 Jo April 18, 2010 at 10:37 am

Those pancakes sound like such a brilliant idea- thanks for the inspiration, I can feel the cogs in my mind whirling! If you want to se a depressing beach- pick any here in Britain- but I think you’ve been to some in Northern Ireland? (prettier there though!) What a great place to do your Medical training at- studying on the beach! My Med school is in a juuust slllightly less exotic, typical English inner city location- but probably costs about half of what it does in the U.S. πŸ˜‰

26 Lacey April 18, 2010 at 11:41 am

Wow girl, your shoulders look microscopic in that pic of you and Melissa!

It’s cold and rainy here today, I would take a cloudy beach over this crap any day!

27 amanda April 18, 2010 at 2:30 pm

okay, those pretzels looks awesome. and eeek…i’m with melissa on cringing at the veggie juice. but i’m glad you enjoyed!

boooo to the lousy weather at the beach.

28 diana@mymarblerye April 18, 2010 at 5:05 pm

I didn’t know your twin bro was in med school!!!!!! That’s so cool! what a variety of kids your parents spawned. πŸ™‚

29 Monica C. April 19, 2010 at 2:52 pm

Those pancakes look great! I *love* it when you talk to food, e.g., ‘Hello lovelies!’ Too cute!!
