The Thursday Morning Drag

by Meghann on January 28, 2010

Talk about a slow day. I’m not sure about any of you, but it felt like my morning just kept dragging. So happy its finally the afternoon and we’re halfway through the day.

I broke into my snack of mixed nuts a bit early today out of boredom. I was staring down the clock and decided eating them would somehow make time speed up.

I’m pretty sure the nuts were gone in less than 60 seconds and I was back to staring at the clock.

Lunch also came around on the early side. I pretty much bolted out of my desk around 11:30.

You know what I’ve discovered lately? When ever I have left overs in the fridge I always ended up combining them together in a big bowl for lunch. I’m not sure if this actually constitutes creativity or pure laziness on my part.

In today’s ‘left over bowl’ I layered the last of my massaged kales, 1/2 a can of black beans that was in the fridge, last night’s roasted acorn squash, cheese, and salsa.

For dessert I had my last chocolate dipped dried fruit.

They will be dearly missed.

Thanks again to Oh Nuts! for sending the little treasures my way. 🙂

Attention Philadelphia Readers…

Are you looking for a switch up in your normal strength training routine?

A co-worker of mine just opened a strength studio in the Philadelphia area called MaxOut and I promised him I would give it a little shout out on the blog.

MaxOut focuses on a pretty cool new concept called Eccentric Training where the max amount of weight is actually applied in the eccentric or resistance phase of training. The whole studio is set up with specialized equipment and one on one trainers that teach the method and its benefits. You can find more information on their websites at

Since the studio is still new and my co-worker is looking to get the word out there he is offering up a great deal for any Inner Workings.. reader in the Philadelphia area.

If you are interested in giving MaxOut and the Eccentric Training concept a shot please send an e-mail to Dave Shafer at and he will set you up with one month of free membership at the studio. Just let him know that you heard about the studio from my blog.

Contacting him would actually be a huge favor to him because he is still in the process of training his trainers and would love any feedback anyone has to offer!

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions!

Leftovers are always good!

3 Casey January 28, 2010 at 2:58 pm

I love leftover bowls! That one looks very tasty. And YES–this day does not seem to want to end. 🙂

4 Karla January 28, 2010 at 3:03 pm

I love combining all leftovers! You can have two okay tasting things but together… they are amazing!
I’m impressed that those chocolate covered fruits have lasted so long! They look delicious!

Totally unrelated but…

Ohhhh I miss chocolate dipped dried fruit oh so much. I ate it all the time when I was London last year. My favorites are apricot, pineapple, and pears. Mmmmmm!

7 Diana January 28, 2010 at 3:15 pm

Leftovers aren’t that bad. And yep, the day definitely dragged. It’s 7pm here now but I just want it to be saturdayyyy.

8 Shannon (The Daily Balance) January 28, 2010 at 3:15 pm

at least tomorrow is friday 😉

9 Estela @ Weekly Bite January 28, 2010 at 3:16 pm

Those chocolate covered fruits so amazing! I always end up doing the same thing for my lunches too. Leftovers are just so easy.

10 Chelsea January 28, 2010 at 3:23 pm

I’m going to miss your chocolate covered fruit-it looks so good.

11 Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg January 28, 2010 at 3:24 pm

Hmmm…I’m about 3 hours from Philly. Guess that’s a little far just for a workout, huh? 🙂

12 Chloe (Naturally Frugal) January 28, 2010 at 3:26 pm

I do my best “cooking” when I have leftovers, somehow the flavors all meld together into something delicious. Looks like a good lunch!

13 Katie@ Two Lives, One Lifestyle January 28, 2010 at 3:29 pm

Mixed up leftovers are convenient and creative! Your mix today sounds really good!

14 Ali January 28, 2010 at 3:32 pm

I do the same thing, I just throw all the leftovers together in one bowl. It is usually delicious!

15 adrienmelaine January 28, 2010 at 3:37 pm

you know what helps pass time when the day drags…?
coffee breaks and google reader– story of my life this week!

16 K January 28, 2010 at 3:47 pm

I want your secret for staying injury free! Seriously! You run so much and still manage to never be injured! What’s the secret?!

17 foodfitnessandfreya January 28, 2010 at 3:51 pm

I think combining leftovers is the way to go – you can create some awesome new combinations that you wouldn’t normally think of! Your lunch sounds delish 🙂
Is that dried apricot? Baah, I love chocolate, but I wouldn’t touch that with a barge pole – I HATE dried apricot!! 😛

18 Lauren January 28, 2010 at 3:57 pm

Ah damn. Too bad your friend’s studio is quite a hike for me (I live in the city and fear 76 traffic).
Thanks for the link though, I will pass it along to some friends who live outside the city.

19 Lacey January 28, 2010 at 3:58 pm

Lol at your comment about trying to speed the clock up by snacking 🙂 I can totally relate!

20 Alisha January 28, 2010 at 3:59 pm

I just wanted to ask, do your co-workers/boss read your blog? haha Because you mention work a lot and about how bored or tired, or crazy busy you are, etc. and I was just wondering if anyone at your work as ever had a problem with your commentary of you job? I personally think its funny sometimes, especially now that you’ve compared your job to Chandler Bing, haha 🙂

21 Meghann January 28, 2010 at 4:25 pm

Yes, my co-workers and boss do know about the blog, but honestly I’m not sure how much they actually read it.

22 eaternotarunner January 28, 2010 at 4:00 pm

Leftover bowls are awesome, I’m with you on that one.

23 Marissa January 28, 2010 at 4:16 pm

I do the same thing with leftovers!

24 Deva (Voracious Vorilee) January 28, 2010 at 4:23 pm

I love leftover bowls, and leftovers in general – they’re awesome 🙂

25 Erin January 28, 2010 at 4:34 pm

Funny, because my Thursday is FLYING by! 😉

26 Meredith January 28, 2010 at 4:54 pm

what exactly do you to to make “massaged kale” (other than, I assume, massaging it?) you inspired me to buy some but now i have no idea what to do with it!

27 Meghann January 28, 2010 at 4:59 pm

You simply drizzle the fale with some olive oil, balsamic vinegar, lemon juice and salt and then refridgerate for at least thirty minutes. Its good! I promise!

28 Beth January 28, 2010 at 5:17 pm

wow! 8.5 and 9.0! that is hauling A**! I am 5-1 and when i am on 7.5 i feel like i may lift off into space 😉

29 Mama Pea January 28, 2010 at 5:18 pm

How’s your work peeps like your hair?

30 Meghann January 28, 2010 at 5:21 pm

Only one person noticed and she liked it.

31 Claire January 28, 2010 at 5:32 pm

Yay I am from Philadelphia! Thanks for posting this…I just sent an email to MaxOut and am very excited!

32 Jenn Eats Nutritiously Now January 28, 2010 at 6:14 pm

Today HAS seemed to drag on…wonder what that’s all about?! Hope you have a great night, though!

33 Heather January 28, 2010 at 9:22 pm

I suffered from Thursday afternoon drag – my afternoon was full of meetings and I couldn’t believe it would ever end!

I am also “creative” and tend to dump a whole of of things into a bowl and call it a meal. My husband on the other hand, hates when different foods touch. I think he is the odd one!

34 Gracie January 28, 2010 at 9:24 pm

I’m the Philadelphia area. YAY! I’ll email Dave for sure. The only thing is that I’m in the suburbs so I want to find out where exactly MaxOut is located. Thanks so much! 🙂

35 whydontcharun January 28, 2010 at 9:53 pm

I hear ya about this Thursday morning…. mine started off by my husband taking my keys with him to work, and my mother having to take me to work. OIY! Luckily, my day only got better from there. After all, could it really have gotten any worse? haha

BTW, that chocolate dipped fruit looked amazing! *drooling* 😀

36 caronae January 28, 2010 at 10:04 pm

Hehe, sometimes I too feel as though having a snack will make things go by faster 🙂

37 Heather (Heather's Dish) January 28, 2010 at 10:31 pm

those chocolate dipped fruits look so amazing…i’ll miss seeing them on here 🙂

38 Running on Faith January 28, 2010 at 10:57 pm

It is not laziness! You are being economical!

39 fromatopink January 28, 2010 at 11:39 pm

I’d be sad that dried fruit is gone too! It looks positively scrumptious 🙂

40 Jenna January 29, 2010 at 8:34 am

I got super excited when you mentioned Philly and then even more when I went to the site and saw they are in Royersford!! That’s not far from me at all 🙂 Thanks!
