The other week I tweeted a request for Valentine’s dinner suggestions in the Tampa area. One reader e-mailed me immediately raving about Pane Rustica Bakery & Cafe in South Tampa.
After studying the menu I knew this wasn’t what we were looking for for Valentines Day, but did know it would make the perfect Sunday lunch spot! I jumped on the chance to check the cafe out for lunch today.
As soon as we walked in I fell in love with Pane Rustica. They had a great casual yet elegant atmosphere and everything was so clean and beautiful.
All of the lovely baked goods and flatbreads immediately caught my eye.
Not to mention the lovely desserts!
I nibbled on a sample of flatbread while waiting in line to order.
Pane Rustica has a very fresh seasonal menu. I was considering the flatbread for lunch, but in the end went with a hearty sandwich.
Oven roasted fall vegetables with herbed goat cheese on the 7 grain bread.
served with a side of olives and herb roasted potatoes
You can just imagine how incredible this sandwich was!
I think it was the herbed goat cheese that put it over the top! 🙂
Derek and I were temped to order dessert, but in the end we both cleaned our plates and were too stuffed to think about fitting in another bite. Next time though we want to at least try on of their fabulous cookies! 🙂
After we stuffed ourselves silly, Derek and I thought it would be a good idea to take a walk on Bay Shore to help our settle our stomachs.
It was a windy, gorgeous day!
This is why I love living in Florida!
Beach weather in the middle of January! Can’t beat that!
We walked for just over an hour including a break on the above bench where we almost both went to sleep. The whole walk brought back memories of when I ran along the water during Gasparilla last year. It got me very pumped for this year’s race!
After our walk our stomachs were finally ready for the dessert we had promised each other. On the way back to the apartment we stopped at Berryism where I ordered a small original tart yogurt with raspberries and chocolate covered pretzels.
I couldn’t resist a side by side shot of mine and Derek’s yogurt.
Boys will be boys…
I didn’t end up leaving Tampa until late and by the time I arrived home and went to the grocery store I was starving. I ended up throwing just a bunch spanish inspired ingredients in a pan and calling it dinner.
My mish mosh dinner contained:
- black beans
with blue corn tortilla chips
My last minute meal turned out great. All the flavors complimented each other perfectly and it was fun to have the chips as dippers.
For dessert I had two of my Almond Butter Chocolate Chip cookies that I made last Sunday.
And with that the weekend is over. 🙁
On the bright side that means its only 2 more weeks until my birthday. 🙂
Have a great week!
