The Last Run

This morning was my final training run before the marathon on Sunday.

I did a whopping 3 miles at an 8:45-ish pace. This was about 30 seconds below my goal pace. I wanted to aim a little faster, but I didn’t want to overwork myself in the process.

I knew I would be running around like a chicken with their head cut off this morning, so I went ahead and prepped a lovely breakfast last night.


Overnight oats

  • 1/2 cup Rolled Oats
  • Plain Yogurt (The rest of a container, maybe 3/4 cup?)
  • Cinnamon
  • Almond Butter
  • Raisins

I combined everything last night and this morning finished it off with some pear, Crofter’s Europe Superfruit Spread, and some granola for a little crunch.


The cold breakfast was enjoyed with a hot cup of water.


I has a comment yesterday asking about my hot water.

I try to hydrate in the mornings with a glass of water, but when its cold outside the idea of cold water is not appealing. Instead I opt for a cup of hot water that hydrates me while warming my body up for a run.

I prefer not to drink tea before my runs because tea seems to mess with my stomach a tiny bit and I hate having to pull over into my neighbor’s bushes to alleviate that problem on a daily basis. Luckily, the hot water doesn’t give me the same problems. 🙂

Did you know in exactly 1 month I will be 25?!?! Sunday’s race will be my last race in the 24 and under age division. 🙁 It’s been a good run age division, but I guess its time for a change!

Best wishes on Sunday!!! It can be hard to change age groups at times…. I know the 30-39 group in my area is highly competitive, as is the 40’s too!

Ive been following your blog for about a year and a half now and just wanted to wish you the best of luck on Sunday! Ironically I am in Cocoa Beach now with the swim team I coach from PA. I would love to come to the meet up or watch the race but can’t- so have fun and best of luck! PS my 25th bday is on Feb. 22, not too far behind ya!

i have been leaving a glass pitcher out on the counter lately full of water, i am finding i do not like cold water at all…the room temperature is so much easier for me to drink. good luck sunday

Good luck with the race! I’m sure you will do very well. I wish I was in Florida now – the NY winter is getting the best of me (even though I know it’s cold there too). I enjoy hot water with lemon squeezed in it.

that’s funny about the hot water. i can never seem to drink just plain hot water. I do have a cup of tea every morning to warm up though

I drink hot water too! People look at me like I’m crazy! And I drink coffee before runs because it cleans me out. I like feeling light-weight on my runs! 🙂

Good idea with the hot water! Now I know why some runners take TP with them on their long runs. I know- it took me a long time to figure this out. Even on my longest runs – 10 miles, this hasn’t happened yet 😉

What a busy weekend to go with your marathon… You are going to have a blast and it will all be worth it!

I would love to drink hot water, but just can’t do it–it makes me gag something terrible, even when I put a slice of lemon in it.

Hot water also hydrates you faster! It takes less for your body to process it and it gets to where it needs to be more quickly.

You’re going to do SO great on Sunday!!!
