Happy Birthday Daddy!

by Meghann on January 6, 2010

Today my Daddy turns 47.

He will kill me for announcing that to the world, but if I were him I would be damn proud to be 47!

At 47 he can still keep up with all of his kids on the mountains, he can proudly claim he put three kids through college and is currently supporting another on his journey, he is not on any meds for high cholesterol or blood pressure, nor is he over weight or balding.

I say at 47 my Dad is doing pretty damn good for himself!

I gave up on trying to run today in the cold (Iโ€™m in taper mode, right?) and instead did a little yoga.

I didnโ€™t realize how tight my legs were until I was in downward dog for a couple of breaths too long. Maybe, i should have been practicing a little yoga while skiing last week to keep me loose and limber. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I wanted something hot and satisfying for breakfast.

I heated up a whole apple with some cinnamon and almond butter than topped it with 3/4 cup of Meghannโ€™s Fruity Crunch and some plain yogurt.

The results were just what I was hoping for โ€“ warm, gooey and still a little crunchy. Yummy.

I have been sipping on hot tea lately like its nobodyโ€™s business. I think yesterday I must have drank a dozen cups!

Usually I try to get at least 2 or 3 cups out of one tea bag or tsp of loose tea leaves.

Do you reuse tea bags/ leaves? If so how many times?

I reuse teabags once if it’s a really good tea and/or expensive. otherwise, I just throw it out. I normally only have 1 cup a day though.

the hot breakfast looks great! I just had a smoothie and I”m wishing I had something hot

11 Leah January 6, 2010 at 10:27 am

I usually use 1 teabag for maybe 2 mugs of tea.

47 is young! my parents have 10 yrs on your pa. happy birthday to him!
i reuse my tea bags once, esp the sugar cookie tea just because i want my boxes to last longer.

17 rungirlrunn January 6, 2010 at 10:42 am

I usually don’t use 1 teabag for more than 2 cups of tea, but I don’t usually have 2 in a row and it ends up in the trash after 1.

18 Jenna January 6, 2010 at 10:44 am

Your dad is so cool!

19 Casey January 6, 2010 at 10:44 am

I love tea, but I usually drink it iced…mmm. Happy birthday to your daddy! ๐Ÿ™‚

20 Britt @ Runnerbelle January 6, 2010 at 10:46 am

Happy B-day to your dad!! He is a young pup though… my parents are in their 60’s (but still skiing and running I might add).

I rarely try to do more than two cups out of a bag and that second cup is usually week. What I usually do is add another bag for that second cup and then get a 3rd out of the two old ones. My loose leaf I try to get two out of… just because its so darn good but a little more $$.

21 Andrea January 6, 2010 at 10:50 am

I was able to get three cups of tea out of one bag yesterday all of them tasted just like the first, I’m going to try for four and see if it still taste good!

22 Paige@ Running Around Normal January 6, 2010 at 10:52 am

Aww, happy birthday, Meghann’s Dad!
That breakfast looks good! And I hear ya on the running in the cold thing. It’s in the single digits here! No thanks.

23 Morgan @ Life After Bagels January 6, 2010 at 10:53 am

Oh yeah on the teabags . . when I’m at work I usually use one tea bag all day and just keep topping up my cup. That’s only with green or chamomile . . . I like to switch bags for black tea.

24 biz319 January 6, 2010 at 10:55 am

Happy Birthday to your Papa! Wow, that makes me feel old! But then again, when I am 47, Hannah will be 24 ๐Ÿ˜€

25 Rachel January 6, 2010 at 10:56 am

So sweet of you to wish him a happy birthday on your blog!

26 Danielle January 6, 2010 at 10:57 am

Happy B-Day to your dad!
I’m more of a coffee drinker than a tea drinker. I can’t say I’ve ever re-used the bags!

27 rachael January 6, 2010 at 11:21 am

I usually get 2 cups of tea out of each bag. Maybe I’m cheap but good organic tea is $$$.

28 Heather @ The Joyful Kitchen January 6, 2010 at 11:26 am

i usually just use them one time since i only do 1 cup per day…but, if i’m drinking more, i’ll reuse them no more than 3 times.

hope your dad has a wonderful birthday! sounds like he’s got a great family ๐Ÿ™‚

29 Rose January 6, 2010 at 11:42 am

33 Christy January 6, 2010 at 12:15 pm

I had no idea that you can reuse tea bags more than once! I knew that you could do that with loose tea, just not the bags. Do you still get the same flavor?

34 dailygoods January 6, 2010 at 12:30 pm

happy bday to your daddyyy!

35 Ali January 6, 2010 at 12:33 pm

36 mayapamela January 6, 2010 at 1:03 pm

I definitely reuse tea bags! Usually 2 times.

37 Katie O. @ Fit to Wed January 6, 2010 at 1:03 pm

Aw, happy birthday to your dad!

I always reuse tea bags. I’m glad to hear that someone else does too! I usually get 2-3 cups out of mine!

38 Sara January 6, 2010 at 1:05 pm

Your dad looks great for 47!

A co-worker just made fun of me yesterday for reusing my tea bag! The tea that I love is Seasonal, so I absolutely HAVE to use it 2 times, after that there isn’t much flavor left.

39 Laura Georgina January 6, 2010 at 1:08 pm

I’d love to reuse my bags, but I’m too much of a strong black tea fiend to have much of anything left once I’m done with a bag….

40 Beth January 6, 2010 at 1:09 pm

All of those things are comendable, and KUDOS to your dad, however it should be noted that going bald is not something you can control and yet another society-driven definition of attractive. Many men and women suffer greatly the loss of hair regardless of age or diet.

41 Samantha January 6, 2010 at 1:26 pm

WOW! I am pretty sure you are a few years older than me, and your dad is 13 years younger than mine!! Crazy!! Happy Birthday Meghann’s dad!!

42 Chelsea January 6, 2010 at 2:08 pm

Your Dad looks awesome!!!! As does your breakfast! You are totally tapering-rest is good.

43 inmytummy January 6, 2010 at 2:16 pm

Your dad is young! My dad is turning 62 this year. Although, I think I am 6 years older than you.

44 Andrea January 6, 2010 at 7:02 pm

Lookin’ good Mr. Anderson! I can’t believe your Dad is so young! My dad was 47 when I was 11!

45 Hangry Pants January 6, 2010 at 7:38 pm

Happy Birthday to your dad, who I not think of every time I pass a porta-potty.

46 jamie January 6, 2010 at 7:48 pm

Lightbulbs….i swear by CFLs, they last forever and my electric bill is so low now. The only thing I do not like…when it is time to throw them away. I haven’t had that problem yet..since they last 5 years, but have discovered that out local Home Depot recycles them… ๐Ÿ™‚

47 joy January 7, 2010 at 1:21 pm

happy b’day to your dad! I tried to reuse my tea bags but the 2nd cup was always super weak… Does that happen to you?

48 Sarah (from See Sarah Eat) January 7, 2010 at 10:08 pm

Aww, your dad is still quite a young man! Hope he had a great birthday ๐Ÿ™‚
