Entering the Final Month of Training

by Meghann on December 1, 2009

Happy December 1st everyone!

Has anyone finished their Christmas shopping yet? I haven’t even started! I tried to do some Cyber Monday Christmas shopping last night, but just ended up buying myself a camera bag. Oops. 😉

The start of December also means the start of my last month of training before the Disney Marathon. Yikes! I have some pretty hardcore training runs in this final month before tapering starts right around Christmas time.

Training overview:

Breakdown of December:

I could not be happier with training thus far. After Sunday’s race I am fully confident with my new goal of completing 26.2 miles under 4:15:00. My new goal is almost a full 15 minutes under my previous marathon finish time of 4:29:46, but I feel more prepared this time around and I know I can do it.

This morning I set out on my first run since I completed my half. Surprisingly, I felt great. My legs still felt fresh and it was as if that race never existed.

I ran an easy 6 miles at a steady pace.

When I returned I popped two Pumpkin Waffles I had previously frozen in the toaster and made a delicious holiday themed breakfast.

Pumpkin Waffles topped with Cranberry Sauce, Plain Yogurt, and Flax.

There is something about cranberry sauce and yogurt that just works. Nom Nom Nom.

6-Section Gift Tray. Toffe almonds, honey baked pecans and rum cordials. This is probably hippocritical but although I don’t drink I love alcohol flavored chocolate, I eat less that way cause 1 gives me a buzz.

I definitely have to get a move on on the Christmas shopping! I am always jealous of your beautiful looking waffles!

I haven’t started either — I’m planning to make a lot of my gifts in an effort to save money and cut down on all the STUFF we have. Things like ready-made scone mix, for example.

looks like you have a great training plan and are gonna rock the marathon!

I have not STARTED shopping nor decorating. All these people on Facebook and Twitter keep talking about how they are all done shopping and decorating and baking already and it is kind of annoying me. Is that making me a scrooge!!! LOL Probably!

Cranberry sauce on waffles sounds like a fab idea! Pumpkin butter was my favorite pre-Thanksgiving topping, but now that it’s Christmas season I think I’ll make the switch!

So exciting to be in December and a month away from your marathon! Those pumpkin waffles look super delicious, especially with the cranberry sauce.

22 Jenna December 1, 2009 at 2:25 pm

good look with your runs this month!

23 Lindsay December 1, 2009 at 3:21 pm

My mom does MOST of the christmas shopping and she has been done since the middle of Novemeber… I only need to get a few things for my immediate family!!
Also, where are you going to ski this year??

24 Danielle December 1, 2009 at 8:39 pm

The final month of marathon training is the most difficult, not only because of the high mileage runs, but because of the mental and physical exhaustion that goes along with it. I PROMISE that even with my super slow marathon experience, that the training is the most difficult part of the whole thing. You can do it!
