I can’t believe my little brother turns the big 2-0 today!
Ben is the youngest of the four of us and I still remember the night he was born. My parents had dropped the rest of us off at my Grandparent’s house before they made the trip to the hospital. We didn’t have any jammies, so my grandma took us to Wal-mart where she bought me a pretty nightgown that I never wanted to take off. The next morning I got to meet my baby brother and I was told the story of how my Mom broke my other Grandma’s finger by squeezing her hand too tight in delivery.
Ben may be the youngest of the four of us, but he’s always had an old soul. When he was 3 or 4 he always made friends with the adults in the room over the little kids and in his early teen years he restored a 69 VW beetle practically by himself.
That car is his baby!
Happy Birthday Ben! Welcome to my decade – you are going to love it! Oh and p.s. just think only 365 days until you turn 21!! 😉
Before I went to bed last night I double checked my phone to ensure I had set an alarm for 5:15. I have a daily alarm that goes off at 5:30, but when I need to wake up a little earlier I set a second alarm to ring at the earlier time. Somehow when I double checked that second alarm I managed to turn it off instead of on. Bummer.
My original alarm did go off at 5:30, but without that additional 15 minutes I lost a mile in my run and my planned 7 miler became a 6 miler. Oh well.
The 6 mile tempo run still went great. I am learning to control my pace on these runs, which is a big improvement from when I first started training and my pace was all over the place. 🙂
Despite knocking a mile off of my run, I was still rushed when I returned to my apartment. Breakfast ended up being a quick and easy bowl of cereal.
- 1/2 cup Shredded Wheat
- 1/2 cup Kashi Go Lean Crunch
- 1/2 cup Missy’s Mix #1
- Plain Yogurt
- Almond Butter
The almond butter was extra gooey and yummy thanks to being the first scoop out of the fresh jar I opened this morning.

I would name mine “Wake Me Up Crunch” and since I have always dreamed about being on a box of Wheaties I would put a photo from the finish line at my last race on it.
