Follow Friday

by Meghann on September 4, 2009

In return for leaving work early, I had to stay and work through lunch. As much as I hate eating lunch at my desk, I do enjoy any excuse to use my Vera Bradley lunch sack. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Not only is she a beauty, she also always comes bearing gifts of good food.

Last night I made a Taboule, Hummus, Sprouts and Feta wrap.

It looked so tiny when I rolled it up I was afraid it wasnโ€™t going to be very filling, but it worked out perfectly.

With the wrap I had a baggie of Asparagus and Cherry Tomatoes.

Raw asparagus is really fun to munch on. It has a nice crunch to it that makes it easy to nibble one.

My thirst quencher

Last but not least there was an Apricot and Nut Granola Bar.

I am always hesitant with new bars, but this one was great! It tasted just like an oatmeal cookie. The perfect dessert for my lunch.

Follow Fridayโ€ฆ

If you are Twitter Fanatic, like myself, then you may know a little something about Follow Friday or #FF.

For the twitter newbies, Follow Friday is a concept where you Tweet which Twitter accounts you are particularly enjoying that week under the hash mark #FF. This way the people following you will see who you are following and they may want to follow them as well.

I decided to do my own twist of Follow Friday. Instead of tweeting who Iโ€™m loving on Twitter, what about blogging about who Iโ€™m loving in my google reader?

Each Friday I will write about 2 blogs that I suggest you should add to your google reader as well. They may be lesser known blogs or they may be ones youโ€™ve already been a fan of or they may not even be food related. Either way I want to give them a shout out!

Here is who Iโ€™m following this week:

  • Marathon, Marrying and Milestones โ€“ When I first started reading Emilyโ€™s blog back in February she was in the middle of training for a marathon and planning her fabulous wedding. I should probably mention the marathon she was training and hoping to BQ for also fell exactly one week before that fabulous wedding she was simultaneously planning. Insane, right? Well she did it and kicked ass while doing so. This past month Emily and her new Husband made the life altering decision to pack up and move many miles away from their family & friends to persue their dreams. Emily is due to start culinary school at Johnson & Wales this month and I can not wait to continue to read as she embarks on this new journey!
  • Frayed Laces โ€“ This is a running themed blog that Caitlin turned me on to. If you think I am insane, you havenโ€™t seen anything yet. This girl literally broke her pelvis while running a marathon she was hoping to BQ during. She pushed through the pain and miraculously finished. A year later she finally BQed only to injure herself a month before Boston. She still ran it, slowly but surely. She also is a Marathon Maniac, has ran countless Ultra-marathons and completed Half Iron Mans. Seriously you need to check this girl out!

Any good blogs your following lately?

Hi, just a quick question:

what does BQ mean?

13 Meghann September 4, 2009 at 1:24 pm

BQ =Boston Qualify.

When people are hoping to qualify for the Boston Marathon then they are hoping to BQ.

14 foodieinthecity September 4, 2009 at 1:22 pm

I love your idea! What a great way to get other blogs known around the blogging community!

Being new to the blog world (writting) I am finding SO many new blogs, that I can’t write down just one. However, I just found Whit’s and am LOVING her blog!

Hopefully you can come and stop by my new blog at somepoint too ๐Ÿ™‚

18 Stephanie September 4, 2009 at 1:34 pm

I recommend that everyone check out the blog at!

19 erinstark September 4, 2009 at 1:38 pm

That’s funny… I’m running my first marathon on October 9, 2010 — and it will be one week before I get married! My husb-to-be will be running too… albeit much faster than I!

We haven’t actually set the date yet, and are currently debating whether it’s better to know that we have a marathon planned for the week AFTER we get married (thus interrupting honeymoon plans!), or get married the week after our mara, and risk sore bodies! I’m thinking after… it will make for a good wedding speech!

20 Sara September 4, 2009 at 1:49 pm

It is so generous of you to promote other’s blogs since you have since a great platform! The blog community is so welcoming and supportive! As a fairly new “bloggie” myself I’ve been thrilled when I get new visitors and commentors!
I mainly follow the established “big” blogs but would love to get to know some new ones!

I’ve been following your blog for a few weeks now, but have yet to comment. I just felt the need to express my mutal feeling about eating at my desk (hate it), but I love bringing out my Vera! Just makes my day…or lunch ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, just wanted to say I love your blog and I’m going to start following you on twitter (if ya don’t mind!). I just recently found this whole health/food/fitness blog world and I definitely find myself relating the most to you (college grad working in an office). Have a great weekend!
