Counting Down the Hours

by Meghann on August 12, 2009

I made it! My short week at work is over and it is officially time to let the fun begin. Woo hoo!

Now I need to start a countdown for when my flight leaves tomorrow at 3:00. How many hours do I have to go?!?!

This afternoon I received a generous sampling of Muffin Tops and Cookies from the nice people at Penny’s Low Fat Desserts to review for the blog.

From the company website…

Penny’s Low Fat Desserts freshly bakes the most delicious healthy desserts you’ll ever taste, so you’ve come to the right place for guilt-free indulgence! With melt in your mouth flavor and texture like this, you won’t believe our desserts are so low in fat and calories and high in fiber and whole grains.

These are the way desserts should be…Low Fat, High Fiber Cookies are big, sweet, and loaded with flavor. Our Low Fat, High Fiber Muffins and TOPS are like having a piece of cake—light and fluffy. Made from all natural ingredients, our healthy desserts are perfect snacks for the table or take-along.

My heart was set on sampling the Almond Poppy Seed Muffin Top as an afternoon treat.

The nutrition statistics and ingredient list for the muffin tops were pretty decent. They contain no preservatives, so the box they arrived in prompted me to place them in the freezer ASAP.

The Almond Poppy Seed Muffin Top was just what I needed to tame my sweet tooth. While not being overly sweet it was the perfect balance of a moist muffin and chewy cookie. In fact it was so good when I finished I scraped the plastic wrap it came in clean. Yum!

Maddie is staying at my parents this weekend, so instead of wasting 2 hours driving there and back I decided just to make the 45 minute trip there and stay the night. Plus I have a killer run planned in the morning and it just so happens my parents live on my favorite route. 😉

My sister, Kelly, just happened to be at my parent’s with her puppy, Oliver, so we were able to get a family shot.. or at least tried to get a family shot.

Uncle Scooby with Cousins Oliver and Maddie. 🙂 BFFs already.

After daunting on the puppies, the family headed down the street to Rodeo for some Mexican fare.

I ordered a single Chicken Enchilada sans cheese with verde salsa.

For some reason I was really craving chicken and this greasy creation hit the spot.

With my a la carte item I ordered a Tossed Salad.

I dissed most of the cheese and the green peppers. I was basically left with plain lettuce and a little tomato which I coated with verde salsa. It was overall an ok meal. I ended up eating 2 chips with the remaining salsa on my plate.

When I got home my Dad had a never been opened container of Peanut Butter Cup Frozen Yogurt calling my name.

The small cup was delish.

My legs are itching to run tomorrow. I’m planning 10 miles and can not wait. What’s better then knocking out an awesome run before an awesome trip?!?! Absolutely nothing:)

Almond poppyseed is my favorite kind of flavor for muffins! Peanut Butter Cub Fro-yo looks delicious and I’m drooling!

Aww, just look at those puppies together! What a cute fur family portrait.

I have to say I get a kick out of the times you only have a really small indulgence (and I mean this sincerely!) like two chips. For me and probably a lot of others it’d be like 2…0. Hehehe. I know sometimes all ya need is a taste!

That muffin top looks so good! The top is EASILY the best part of any muffin so it only makes sense to package just that part up. As for the rest of the samples, I see a chocolate peanut butter cookie? I hope you let us know how that tastes soon! Have so much fun this weekend!!

Happy travels Meghann! Looks like Maddie will be in good company while mommy travels.
I agree, a nice long run always feels so great before a trip.
I am thinking about bringing D into the city to get ice cream with you all – if the weather permits, that is. I don’t want to be trucking him around in a the rain. I think he would love to ride the train into the city.

I like the way you use something fairly healthy to satisfy a sweet tooth urge. I’m going to have to make some muffins! There was a great recipe from Cleo Coyle on Mystery Lovers’ Kitchen for muffin tops a few days ago.
