Making it Work

by Meghann on July 15, 2009

My second day into the 30 Day Shred and I have already found myself struggling to fit the 20 minute work out into my daily routine. I really wanted to run today, but knew I would have no time to Shred after work. I also have the same problem with tomorrow as well.

After some deliberation with myself, I compromised. Instead of doing a long run at an easy pace as I normally would, I did a 5k under a 9:00 minute pace. I think I could have done faster if it were not for the pausing at street crossings and gates, but I am proud of my 5k time of 27:18 this morning. πŸ™‚

With the under 30 minute run I still had plenty of time to get my shred time in before I hopped in the shower.

This morning I decided to make the work out a bit more of a challenge and instead of using my normal 3 lb weights for the routine, I bumped it up to 5! Trust me, I could feel a difference! The extra 2 lbs was just what I needed to make me hate Jillian all over again. πŸ™‚

After quite a work out this morning, I was craving something light and refreshing. Fruit was on my mind, and fruit was what I had.

I still had quite a bit of Fruit Salad left over from yesterday’s breakfast, so I dumped the entire container in a bowl and mixed with a heaping spoonful of Oikos Plain Greek Yogurt, before topping with the last of my box of Kashi Go Lean Crunch.

This was just what I needed. If someone let me, I could easily OD off of fresh fruit. It’s an addiction.

Yesterday Mara, Karen and I were tweeting (follow me!) back and forth on who are the sexiest Chefs on tv. I personally have a thing for Bobby Flay & Rocco DiSpirito. They can cook me up a fabulous meal anytime.

Are there any Food Network personalities that have your heart racing?

1 Jillian July 15, 2009 at 9:06 am

ok… not exactly food network, but I definitely have a huge thing for Anthony Bourdain!

2 Ada July 15, 2009 at 9:12 am

I am totally a fruit addict as well. It must be especially hard in Florida, since beautiful fresh fruit is always available. I guess there are worse addictions in life….

3 Betsy July 15, 2009 at 9:16 am

Haha Jillian I was going to say Anthony Bourdain but I thought people would be like ewwww… but he’s just so “real” and funny (in his books and on tv), i’m definitely drawn to him. πŸ™‚

4 Quinn July 15, 2009 at 9:21 am

Hands down Rocco. He’s sort of an ass, but he’s really nice to look at!

5 Bec July 15, 2009 at 9:27 am

good job on making your workout work today!

6 runandrejoice July 15, 2009 at 9:29 am

I TOTALLY have a crush on Tom Colicchio. How weird right? I think it’s more of a personality thing, but he has gorgeous eyes! I’m probably alone on this one, haha!

7 Ally July 15, 2009 at 9:31 am

Ohh I heart Tyler Florence. πŸ™‚

Yay for getting in such a great workout!

8 Lindsey (Mrs. LC) July 15, 2009 at 9:31 am

He’s not on Food Network, but Jamie Oliver is quite a hottie. Female wise, totally Giada (Boobada? haha).

9 prettyladycmu July 15, 2009 at 9:40 am

I’m a big fan of Tyler Florence, though my favorite FN star is Giada!

10 Rose July 15, 2009 at 9:58 am

Bobby Flay’s accent = swoon worthy.

I also think Guy is cute looks-wise πŸ™‚

11 greenbean July 15, 2009 at 10:17 am

michael psilakis – he’s been a judge etc on the channel!

dave leiberman was a cutie too! and i can’t forget about tyler!

12 brandi July 15, 2009 at 10:19 am

great compromise to get the Shred in!

Bobby Flay, hands down. Yum-o πŸ™‚

13 Gloria July 15, 2009 at 10:22 am

He’s not really a chef but Paula Dean’s son Bobby is sooo adorable!! I watch her show only when he is on helping her and usually pay no attention to whatever butter laden dish she’s cooking up.

I definitely have a little girl crush on Giada though!

14 Whit July 15, 2009 at 10:24 am

That Rocco is pretty sexaaay!

I started on the 30 day shred yesterday and sweet jayzus! I did get up this morning and pop it in again. Jillian knows how to start the day out right!

15 prinny July 15, 2009 at 10:27 am

Jamie Oliver πŸ™‚

16 Matt July 15, 2009 at 10:36 am

Giada is pretty hot. Remember I am a guy!

17 Lauren July 15, 2009 at 10:38 am

I know just what you mean about fresh fruit – I eat SO MUCH of it this time of year!

I think Dave Lieberman is adorable… does he even still have his own show?!

18 Sarah (from See Sarah Eat) July 15, 2009 at 10:43 am

Rocco is hottttt!

I also think that guy on Ace of Cakes is kind of cute because he kind of reminds me of my husband πŸ˜‰

And I have a total girl crush on Nigella Lawson!

19 Danielle C. July 15, 2009 at 10:47 am

Tyler Florence is pretty cute, but my fave was Dave Lieberman. I haven’t seen him on the Food Network for a long time though. πŸ™

20 happygoluckyalex July 15, 2009 at 10:48 am

bumped up the weights? you are going to be a sore little lady!!! πŸ™‚

21 Mandy A July 15, 2009 at 10:52 am

Um yeah… it’s amazing how 5 lbs can feel so heavy, isn’t it? haha!

I moved up to 8 lbs on Level 1… but crying with 5 lbs on Level 2 right now!

22 Katie D July 15, 2009 at 11:08 am

Shredding is fabulous! I’m glad you’ve started. I’ve already noticed a difference after working out with Jillian for only one month.

…and — I agree, Bobby Flay is awesome.

23 Lynna July 15, 2009 at 11:17 am

Jamie Oliver is absolutely ADORABLE!!!!!

24 Holly July 15, 2009 at 11:28 am

jamie oliver, anthony bourdain.

gotta love em.

25 Chloe (Naturally Frugal) July 15, 2009 at 11:46 am

I love me some Ina Garten, but since I’m straight I’ll have to go with Sam from Top Chef. Remember him, he was the diabetic and oh so dreamy. Jamie Oliver is definitely cute too!

26 Simone July 15, 2009 at 11:53 am

Aussie hottie Curtis Stone definitely makes me a little week in the knees. None of the Food Network chefs really do anything for me, but Paula Deen’s sons are some cuties! πŸ™‚

27 amanda July 15, 2009 at 11:56 am

bobby flay! cmon people! he is in everything nowadays on that network becuz he has a great personality and is a great chef! muy caliente!!!!!!

28 Betsy July 15, 2009 at 12:06 pm

I agree with the first poster on Anything Bourdain! LOVE him.

Meghann, great job with the Shred! I love/hate that workout and agree that doing it with 5 lbs makes me want to cry!!

29 Courtney July 15, 2009 at 12:12 pm

Daaaaamn! ;] Your runs are so inspiring, girly!

30 Vanessa (Last Night's Leftovers) July 15, 2009 at 12:24 pm

I’m following you! You should definitely follow back πŸ˜›

I’ve decided to put the 30DS on hold until winter when I actually feel like working out indoors. What better way to stay in shape when the cold sets in than to get your ass kicked by Jillian every morning? πŸ˜›

31 Hangry Pants July 15, 2009 at 12:30 pm

Let’s get real. Who is hotter than Giada?

32 Nicole July 15, 2009 at 12:37 pm

Jamie Oliver!!!

33 Melissa S. July 15, 2009 at 12:46 pm

bobby flay? really? come on now meghann!!! hahahaha

34 Kate July 15, 2009 at 12:49 pm

Curtis Stone hands down, I would die and go to sexy chef heaven if he ever approached me in the grocery store and then got to take him home for take home chef… I might keep him πŸ™‚

35 BethAnn Caputo July 15, 2009 at 12:51 pm

Do you eat before you run?

36 RunToFinish July 15, 2009 at 1:36 pm

ok I just had to tell you, I really did make that sandwich from your date with abbie! I just posted about it cause I”m so excited!!

37 Shannon (The Daily Balance) July 15, 2009 at 1:36 pm

Haha seeing the chefs everyone is choosing is so funny! I’m all about Ina Garten – but I’m not 50, and I’m straight, so I’ll go with Cutis Stone from take home chef (TLC, not food network) he is ADORABLE!

38 Aggie July 15, 2009 at 1:43 pm

I definitely have a crush on Bobby Flay and Tyler Florence!!

39 Mrs. Myers @ Eat Move Write July 15, 2009 at 2:07 pm

40 Deirdre July 15, 2009 at 2:34 pm

He’s not on Food network but I think Curtis Stone from Take Home Chef is a HOTTIE. I would love for him to come up to me at a grocery store.

41 JohannaB July 15, 2009 at 2:38 pm

I have a “thing” for Alton Brown. I know, I know…

42 Christy July 15, 2009 at 3:34 pm

43 tlconrad July 15, 2009 at 4:22 pm

44 Susan July 15, 2009 at 4:47 pm

I’m more of a “nerd” girl, I love Alton Brown!! πŸ˜›

Don’t tell my boyfriend that though, he’s still in denial about his nerd status…

45 MarathonVal July 15, 2009 at 10:59 pm

47 Sarah July 16, 2009 at 12:26 am
