Feeding the Hunger Monster

by Meghann on March 31, 2009

I was Hangry this afternoon! My lunch did not hold me over at all and at 2:30 I was begging for my afternoon snack. I scarfed down this mini container of Sabra Hummuse and Pretzel Chips.

Since I started training for my marathon and have been piling on the miles and work outs, I have noticed my hunger soaring and have come to the conclusion I am simply not eating enough calories for my new activity level.

My body needs fuel and I’m starting to listen to it. You will probably notice some extra nut butter to my breakfast, a larger snack in the afternoon and the addition of more complex carbs and protein to my meals. Hopefully this will help me stable out the beast that is my hunger and allow me to be a stronger runner in the long run.

With that in mind I have to admit I was snack, mcsnackerson when I got home. After I completed Level 3 of the 30 Day Shred I munched on bites of my dinner as I was cooking it, some vegetables I was roasting for tomorrow night and several bits of a Pineapple I was cutting up for the week. Yeah a lot of food went to my mouth the was not photographed.

Which worked out because the meal I created was less then spectacular and I ended up only eating half of it.

I attempted to recreate Happy Herbivore’s Red Lentil Dahl and Saag with some Bastimi Rice I seasoned with Curry, Corriander & Garam Masala and 1/2 of a multi grain Flat Out Wrap.

I followed the directions perfectly, but when I sat down to eat I realized there was way to much Garam Masala in the Dahl and Saag. My sensitive tonge could just not take it and when it got to be too much I threw the rest out. Hence, the need to nibble on other item to fulfill my never ending hunger.

Dessert was much better and helped get the over powering Garam Masala taste out of my mouth.

I had the last serving of my Soy Delicious Peanut Butter Chocolate Ice Cream with some crushed Cocoa Java Awesome Almonds on top. I was right before, these nuts were perfect on the Ice Cream. 🙂

I think the hunger monster has finally settle down and is ready for bed. Tomorrow is a new day and a fresh start.

Good Night!

Baker’s Spotlight…

If I were to list the many things I am grateful to have this blog for, one of them would be reconnecting me with distant family members and lost friends. My Cousin Andrea has been an avid reader of my blog since she discovered the link on Facebook and has even had much success starting her own – Bella Eats.

Andrea is actually 3 years older than me, which is an odd age difference growing up where we were close in age, but on totally different wave lengths. I.E. she was starting high school when I was starting sixth grade and when I was a freshmen she was a senior. Luckily this past year I have got to know my distant Cousin Andrea thanks to her daily updates and learned how much similarities we reall have from our eating philosophies to the size of our jeans. Now only if we actually still lived in the same state. Oh well.

For my first Bake Sale I was thankful to have Andrea be involved as her ginormous cookies put up quite the bidding war and her bread was deemed ‘insulin worthy’ by one of my favorite diabetics. I know for round two she is stepping up her ‘A’ game with some date themed treats that will prompt another successful sale. J

Fruit Snack

March 31, 2009

Recently I started cutting back on my fruit intake. I LOVE fruit, but I thought I was eating way too much of it during the day so I tried to limit it to breakfast only. I don’t know why I started doing this, all the reasoning that went into my head doesn’t even make sense more »

YouBars Review

March 31, 2009

I decided yesterday that this morning would be the morning I try running 7 miles before work instead of my normal 4-5. The thought of running 7 miles in the morning was really comforting and I looked forward to the distance while I slept during the night. When the alarm went off at 5:30 I more »
