Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism Review

by Meghann on March 29, 2009

My fate for my morning work out was decided when I woke up to dark clouds and rain outside. I did not need any more push then that to tell me to stay inside and do the Jillian Michaels Work Out through Exercise TV on Demand.

Before my work out I had the other half of my Protein Odwalla Bar from yesterday.

Jillian Mchael’s Banish Fat Boost Metabolism DVD took a much different approach the her No More Trouble Zones DVD. While the No More Trouble Zones work out was strength focused and used weights with consistent reps, her Banish Fat Boost Metabolism was more cardio focused with no additional hand weights needed.

I did work up a sweat with Banish Fat, but since my work outs are pretty cardio heavy thanks to running I much prefer strengthing exercises with videos. I would say if I were to pick one of the two to purchase and continue on a regular basis I would pick the No More Trouble Zone DVD.

After Banish Fat I really felt like I could have got away with more of a work out or something. I was considering going for a run in the drizzle, but decided a shower and breakfast would be better. Maybe I will try to work in a bike ride or walk with Abbie this afternoon.

My Dad made waffles from scratch this morning.

He used a Betty Crocker recipe that called for the egg whites to be whipped to tiff peaks before being folded into the batter. This resulted in very fluffy, yummy waffles.

I added a handful of Dried Cherries to my waffle batter and topped the waffles with the left over sugared strawberries and the strawberry juices that had came out of being in the fridge last night. It was a great syrup substitute.

Our original plans were to enjoy some fun in the sun on the beach today, unfortunately the hidden sun makes these plans seem kind of pointless. Instead I took advantage of my Dad’s car knowledge and his insistence that I needed new tires today or be face with blowing them on the road in the next week. I chose new tires. I also may have not had a oil change since umm.. last May, so to Tire Kingdom we went!

On the way we also discovered my wind shield wipers were in need of replacement. Apparently my car was falling apart around me!

So one hour, an oil change, two new tires and an oil change later I needed a snack.

I picked up these Peanuts while we were killing time at Target and had a small handful on the way home.

I now feel safe again in my car. Woo hoo!

Now let’s see what other fun activities we can do today despite the rain. I heard rumors of bowling. That should be fun!

Baker’s Spotlight…

Lisa from Lisa Hearts Pizza is another baker where supporting The Leukemia and Lymphona Society is a cause near and dear to her heart as both her dad and aunt are non-hodgkin’s lymphoma SURVIVORS! Pretty incredible, right?

Lisa is baking up something pretty great for the event and just think how purchasing her goods you are helping someone else’s life that could be a fellow blogger’s Dad or Aunt. Just think about that.

3 Mica March 29, 2009 at 11:12 am

That waffle looks fantastic! Great job making them from scratch!

4 Dori March 29, 2009 at 11:24 am

I’ve been curious about No More Trouble Zones — both the full and shorter versions are OnDemand so I should check them out. The waffle looks great!

5 Meg March 29, 2009 at 11:26 am

What an expensive car day!! That sucks!! At least you’re nice and safe now!

The waffles look delish!! My gram always would beat her egg whites for her waflles. I forgot how good homemade ones were! She always made them for us when we had sleepovers at her house!

6 VeggieGirl March 29, 2009 at 11:30 am

Great review!!

LOOOOOOOVE your waffle creation!!

Hang in there with the car!!

So inspiring about the baker blogger in the spotlight today.

7 Niki March 29, 2009 at 11:30 am

Those waffles look so good!! I can’t rememeber the last time I had homemade waflles!

8 burpexcuzme March 29, 2009 at 11:32 am

you’re so lucky to have a dad to make you such scrumptious-looking waffles in the morning!
and thanks for the review! I prefer cardio to weights, too.

9 ksgoodeats March 29, 2009 at 11:35 am

Mmmm to the waffle 🙂 That’s pretty phenomenal that Lisa’s dad and aunt are survivors – congrats to them!!

No oil change since last May?? Good thing you were at your parents this weekend!

Off to check out Lisa’s blog! Happy Sunday!

Your dad is awesome — homemade waffles are the best!

12 mags March 29, 2009 at 12:11 pm

meghann you look SO skinny in some of the recent pictures you have posted! have you lost weight since training for the marathon?

13 Meghann March 29, 2009 at 12:16 pm

Hey Mags,

No I have not lost any weight, but I think thanks to the 30 day Shred I have been toning up. I have seen a difference in pictures as well, but not on the scale. But I have to say since training for the marathon my hunger has sky rocketed!

14 marafaye March 29, 2009 at 12:14 pm

GORGEOUS waffle!! Thanks for the Jillian video review, I’ve wondered about that one.

15 shelby March 29, 2009 at 12:31 pm

Thanks for the review…I was planning on doing a Jillian vid this afternoon.

16 Nicole March 29, 2009 at 12:42 pm

waffles! mmmm, the strawberries on top are making my mouth water!

17 luckytastebuds March 29, 2009 at 12:59 pm

Yayy! That one liner on the Jillian review is PERFECT for a clueless person like me! Though I have absolutely no equiment at home, I really really want to start on exercise videos at home!!

Your daddy is an awesome cook!! the waffle looks sooo much better than the ones I have ever made. heheheh and my daddy makes breakfast too! His comes out of the Pillsbury doughboy tins. 😛

18 Sarah March 29, 2009 at 1:08 pm

hmm, never would have thought to make waffles that way with beating the egg whites, but it sounds like an awesome trick!!

congrats on your car safety :D. and on that handful of peanuts. YUM.

19 Matt March 29, 2009 at 1:28 pm

Amazing looking waffles!

20 JJ March 29, 2009 at 1:52 pm

just curious .. do you following a training/running plan? or do you kind of just go witht he flow and do the amount of running you want to whenever you want?

21 Meghann March 29, 2009 at 3:02 pm

I am loosely following the Team in Training program for my Marathon. The program is very flexible so I can move what days I do what if I need to.

22 Leah March 29, 2009 at 2:56 pm

Hey Meghann, do you still weigh yourself in the store or have you bought a scale? Just a fun Q I thought i’d ask!

I agree with the other comment saying you look super toned in photos lately!

Awesome breakfast today!

23 Meghann March 29, 2009 at 3:03 pm

ha I still do not own a scale. AS long a my pants still fit I really don’t see a need to. But every time I walk into Publix I do tend to gravitate towards the scale they have set up there. 🙂

24 Leah March 29, 2009 at 3:05 pm

I totally agree! I think it’s best to go with how your clothes fit.. scales can tend to be inaccurate anyways!

Btw, i’m giving away a copy of “Fit from Within!” – just incase your readers would like to have a chance to win it!

25 bakingbarista March 29, 2009 at 3:01 pm

I stumbled across your blog from veggiegirl, and happened to notice that I own the plates you used for your waffles this morning!

26 Rachel March 29, 2009 at 3:13 pm

Which is your favorite DVD; Shred or the Trouble Zones video? I want to buy one but can’t decide! You look great by the way!!

27 Meghann March 29, 2009 at 4:48 pm

Rachel – get the Trouble Zones DVD! That was my favorite to do. And by favorite I mean it was the one that had me cursing at Jillian the most 🙂

28 Sharon March 29, 2009 at 3:56 pm

Oh wow, the waffles made by your dad are amazing!

29 Laura March 29, 2009 at 4:55 pm

I love that so many workouts are available On Demand. It’s a nice way to preview something before buying the DVD.

I’m guessing you don’t have safety inspections in FL? I feel like I’m always getting new windshield wiper blades, tires, etc. just so I can have the damn sticker for my window. 🙂

30 Danica March 29, 2009 at 6:02 pm

Your waffles look amazing! Thanks for the review of Jillian’s videos. I have all her others and have been debating if these were worth it. She says she kicks it up a notch for these two so I may just have to check it out.

Have fun bowling!

31 Marianne March 29, 2009 at 7:09 pm

No oil change in almost a year? Tsk tsk. I’m so anal about getting all my regular services done on my car. I have to be, since it’s still under warranty, and if I don’t keep up on the scheduled maintenance, it can void any warranty repairs they do (and I’ve had a few already). Oil changes are cheap! And good for your engine 🙂

You dad makes some lovely waffles. I should make my mom do waffles next time I’m at home.

32 Mark Salinas March 29, 2009 at 7:28 pm

First time here…just enjoying some reading… 🙂

33 Juliet March 29, 2009 at 7:29 pm

The homemade waffles look delicious!

34 Lauren March 29, 2009 at 8:16 pm

I did the exact same Jillian workout today too! I stumbled across in on Demand a few months ago and when I did it then (pre 30 day Shred training) I remember it being so much more difficult. So, assuming I would be feeling the same level of difficultly when I did it again today, I also felt that it was not as intense.
I guess that 30 Day Shred must really be working. I am taking this as proof that I am getting stronger because of the Shred so you obviously must be having the same effect! 🙂

Have a great week girl!

35 Sarah L March 30, 2009 at 3:12 pm

Dried cherries in your waffles sounds awesome!

36 Nikki March 31, 2009 at 4:30 pm

I love Jillian’s workouts, I haven’t tried the No More Trouble Zones yet but I will after the great review! I’ve been using these Jillian mini workouts and they work great…

37 Maddie March 31, 2009 at 5:35 pm

Although Jillian has amazing stength training videos, she also has some cardio workouts that really get you sweating! Try her 30 Day Shred video

38 7daysgrace March 17, 2010 at 7:56 am

Beautiful pictures!

No More Trouble Zones was the most challenging workout I’ve ever done. I alternate it with other exercise dvds like the Banish Fat Boost Metabolism, Hybrid Yoga, and 30 Day Shred.
