Yoga Review

by Meghann on December 15, 2008

I’ll admit it I’m a little sore today. I actually started to feel sore last night. Yesterday’s 5k was a little bit tougher on me then I had imagined. Maybe it was the fact I was trying to gun it the whole race? I agree with Kath’s statement yesterday, its amazing how I can run almost 5 miles everyday and not feel any pain, but a full out 5k can tear me apart.

Last week Maggie from Say Yes To Salad, sent me some links for free online Yoga classes. I figured with my post – race tension in my legs today would be the perfect time to test on of the classes out.  I visited Yoga Today and did the hour long Stress Release class.

Here is Maggie’s critique of Yoga Today:
–this site has new videos (every day I think).  they are mostly an
hour long.  they’re not that professionally done (outside, bad sound
quality), but they are pretty good.  the only problem is that
sometimes you can’t hear the instructor.  One instructor that I like
is named Neesha, so try one of her classes.  This isn’t the vigorous
type of yoga so you won’t get sweaty (at least I haven’t yet).”

The class focused mainly on breathing and did not exactly stretch my legs as much as I liked, but I will admit I do feel much more relaxed after taking the class. I would suggest the Stress Release class if you are looking for a calming yoga effect, but if you would like to massage some sore muscles, I would suggest you try something else.

Maggie actually sent me quite a few recommendations and I can not wait to try them all out in the near future.

For breakfast I add my favorite Monday staple, Cereal. I love my Monday morning cereal. 🙂

I had 1/2 cup Kashi Honey Sunshine, 1/2 cup Quaker Oatmeal Squares,  6 Cherries and 1/2 container of Oikos Honey Yogurt.

I love my weekend breakfast splurges, but there is just something about a nice bowl of cereal that starts the work week off right.

This is my last full week of work before Christmas! Yay! I better make the most of it. 🙂 Happy Monday!

yay!! dude i was sore last night too. how weird is that? the back of my legs… ugh.

im glad you wanna do the Run Around the Universe 5k on January 31. do you want to do the wildman tri on March 14? they have a sprint and a “my first” distance (sprint is 75 km swim, 20 km bike, 2.75 mile run; my first is .4 km swim, 20 km bike, 2.75 mile run). they have a duathlon option, which i am obviously going to do instead of the tri. 🙂 its a 2.75 mile run, 10 km bike, and 2.75 mile run. no swimming for me!!!

they also have an olympic tri and duathlon option on that sunday. the dualthon distance for sunday is a 2.75 mile run, 40 km bike, 5.5 mile run. but i doubt you wanna do the olympic tri distance (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, 5.5 mile run) for your first go

I have tried yoga today too. I prefere…it costs a little bit but you can try a class for free if you do a google search for coupons to their site. I’m sure they have a gentle class to help with sore muscles.

Have a great day!

hi Meghan! I love your blog. I also love yoga! My favorite teacher on Yoga Today is Neesha. She is more like the style of yoga I teach, and she is quite funny. Keep trying classes will you find what you enjoy! Great job on your race, by the way! I check your blog often just don’t always stop to say hi!

Your cereal yogurt bowl looks delicious too!

thanks for the shoutout 🙂

try the runners’ yoga from – it’s designed specifically for runners. it’s not a ton of stretching, but i think it’s supposed to prevent injury or something.
